Time for something a little different!

Today's video (a mere fortnight after our last) - is an assessment of the various famous people who like board games - and whether they are good ambassadors for our wonderful hobby. And joining me to discuss that very serious topic - is my friend Dr. Ed Hope - last on the channel five years ago.

I hope you enjoy it! And if you ever hear about celebrities who like good board games - let me know! Because I want to know about it.

Channel notice - the newsletter and exclusive videos are on hold, while we move studio and attempt more regular channel videos. The next video planned (already filmed!) is a look at 50 games by Bruno Cathala.

Actually yours!

Jon

This was a fun video. Several surprise people I had never heard about talking about games. I also mourn TableTop. I had always liked board games, but was too intimidated by the modern games I saw at my local comics and game store. TableTop made them seem more accessible and now I own over 150 games.

Great video! Sean Hayes has also talked about games and hosting game nights on his podcast Smartless, and I believe he was on Jimmy Kimmel promoting a party game he created as well!

I really enjoyed the natural conversation between the two of you. Would love more videos like that alongside the more scripted content.

Ooh, I've not heard this one! Thanks for the tip 😁

Actualol

Thanks, I'll do my best to film another one!

Great video - I watched it all the way through, which is something I don't always have the time/patience for. The interaction between you two really worked.

Thank you for saying. I'll try to get Ed back in the studio for another chat 🙂

Jon, I had dropped off paid for awhile, but this brought me back. I love board games, but I'm a more casual gamer. I have probably 100 games, but many I have played only once. I stick with my faves - Codenames, RA, Carcassonne, Pandemic, Secret Hitler - and don't have the energy to keep learning new games. I wonder if there is some video for the casual gamer like me. BTW, yes I have Wingspan and it is great too. Also, how come RA seems never to be mentioned? It is one of the all-time best games.

Actualol

Thanks for coming back! I'm glad this video was for you. I do mention Ra quite a lot myself, in my recent shelf help videos and in my Top 10 games of all time. But celebrities should realise it's brilliance! 😁

Narada Hess

I guess I missed RA due to being out of the loop. Glad it is on your list. There is also an out of print (and potentially politically incorrect) 2-person game called Jambo that a friend and I play over and over. And let's not forget Guillotine and Bohnanza.

One to add to your list. #2 in pro women’s pickleball Anna Bright brings up The Mind and Catan in her last YouTube vid.
