It's important that I'm making videos that my patrons enjoy. It's easy for me to think that what's most popular is what's gets more views on YouTube, but that's not always true.

This is your chance to tell me  - what were your favourite types of videos on the channel  from the last 12 months?

Please pick EXACTLY THREE types of videos you enjoyed from the list. Try to vote based on the type of the video, rather than the specific games that were covered.

And welcome to the new patrons! Thank you for joining the Actual gang, it's great to have you aboard. Coming later this week is the newsletter and the first Top 50 video.

Actually yours,

Jon

Boy was this hard to answer... Only three types! The variety of your videos is actually one of the reasons I like your channel so much. I managed to pick three, but also hope you won't permanently ditch the types that get outvoted this round 🙂 fingers crossed for more new patrons so you can do it all 💸

Actualol

That's good to know, thank you for telling me. I do like variety and I expect I won't stop trying out different things when they suit the situation.

Wade Bates

Glad to see you working on the channel more. I know these are time consuming!

Filipe Gomes

You are asking us to choose between more informative video and more entertaining video! That's cruel! I'm emotionally invested in what happens to Timmy and his dysfunctional family!

nani blyleven

Hope my vote registered, I didn’t find a submit button, just the ability to mark choices. I like your variety so this was a difficult survey, but Timmy and his dysFUNctional family is a favorite theme!

J.C. Mosier

I watch and enjoy every one of your videos, but I voted for the types that I am likely to share with my wife. I think that she's probably representative of the very casual gamer -- which seems like a potential growth demographic. (Her favorite Actualol videos ever are probably Daniel Radcliffe and the Christmas ones with Timmy.)

Johan Fink

It's all good. I especially like your humour. I enjoy that in your characters and jokes. I like your thoroughness in rule explanation. And I have listened to your Pandemic song more than a few times. Continue with your "style" of being you(I hope it made sence). I really like your work.

Daniel Nabben

This was very hard to choose. I wanted to vote for them all because I like to watch them all and each category brings great stuff to the channel as well as the hobby. BUT I decided that rather than abstain I'd see if I could scratch enough itches with three votes. For me, your bread-and-butter, Jon, is that you find games that the geeks overlook but the rest of us enjoy which is why I voted for both your 'Top 10 with Guest' and 'Mini Review' categories. I think all the Top 10 lists in our hobby that feature a panel of some kind are superior to the solo-person list videos. We want the banter, the back-and-forth the critique, the opposing views. /That's/ what makes it interesting viewing. And I think guests always bring a few new games to a channel when they do a Top 10. The host tends to revisit games we already know he likes. I love the 'Board game collection rundown', but we only need one of those every four or five years. I like your videos with characters because you get a sense of how the can be played without it being a dry playthrough - and /you/ seem to really enjoy making those videos. 'Industry Critique' is great, and I would watch and engage in every one of those videos, but, given a choice, I'd rather get your take on games I haven't yet played or introduce me to hidden gems. Again, I like all the categories, but I gravitate towards videos in which I get introduced to more games I haven't yet come across and/or know nothing about.

Adrian Schmidt

I felt very much the same way as Daniel Nabben, but landed on abstaining. Regarding industry critique, I really enjoy those, but I wouldn't want you (Jon) to go looking for things to critique so you can make more such videos. I feel they should come organically when you feel you have something to share.

Actualol

I just checked, and your vote has been registered! :)

Actualol

Thank you Johan, that's nice to hear. It makes perfect sense!

Actualol

Thanks for the detailed response! I think as a viewer of board game media myself I would agree with everything you say. I love hearing about niche games, and so I like sharing them too.

Actualol

Absolutely, that's a great point. "Industry critique" is probably the wrong term. In the future I hope to make other videos which don't critique the industry as such, but look at games as a whole. Don't worry, I have no desire to critique things for the sake of it, I can only conjure up the enthusiasm to do that sort of thing when I'm passionate about what I'm saying.

Dave Nattriss

For me, your USPs are comedy sketches/songs, surfacing games that I don't seem to hear about anywhere else, and flying the London/UK flag!
