Hey there patrons,

I have some extracurricular news to share with you all - I'm going to be a father! My wife Serena is pregnant and due to give birth in July 🥳

It's been a rocky road to this point, we lost two babies to miscarriage last year, and that has made the last 12 months a very nerve-wracking time. After the latest scan we feel ready to tell people.

Thank you for your support - it really has transformed my life. I couldn't imagine being a position to consider having a child when I started the channel 7 years ago. Having the consistency of a regular income gave me the confidence to get married and now start a family.

And I'm very excited for the future of the channel. We recently passed the 70,000 subscriber mark. And I've got an exciting new video on the way - looking at what makes modern board games so good. It's taking a little longer than I'd hoped (and February is shorter than hoped!), but I think it will be worth the wait.

In other news, I will be going to AireCon convention in Harrogate, North Yorkshire again this year, from 9-12th March. Are any of you going to be there? If so, I'd like to try and arrange a meetup to play some Codenames or something together. Ideally, if you can join the Actualol Discord channel we can organise it there, but if not just reply to this post to let me know you'll be there (and which days) and I'll plan something.

I do also plan to be at the UK Games Expo this year. Sorry to all the non-UK patrons! I fear I'm too pale and polite to survive outside of these shores 😂

Actually yours,

Jon

Congrats!🥳 Best job in the world. We went through 2 miscarriages as well. one before each of our daughters. It is devastating. I’m sorry for you and your wife having to go through that.

Congrats on soon-to-be joining the middle aged dad of small children club! I've got a 3 year old and 1 year old that I an anxiously awaiting aging up into board games. My oldest will now sit for about 3 turns of chutes and ladders.

Wow, congratulations indeed. As a "father of three, dad of two" (we lost one due to stillbirth) I know how daunting 'trying again' can be, so I'm really happy about this news. I'm going to be at Airecon with some friends but would love a game of Codenames at some point.

You can try some Haba games. They have games for even 2 year olds. My 2 yo daughter loves playing them. She follows the rules and everything :)

Congratulations Jon! I'm happy for you and also sad that it wasn't an easy process. We also went through a miscarriage before my first kid was born (now we have a 2 year old and a 2 month old) and I know that it pretty much takes away the joy of pregnancy. We saw all these movies with excited parents to be but instead the first half we were just worried.

I played Haba's 'Dragon's Breath' with my children at UKGE a few years ago and they enjoyed it. There's also 'Rhino Hero Super Battle' which is amazing fun for everyone - kids and adults alike.
