Another week passed by. The team was busy doing D ranked missions, but they were mainly focused around the hospital, such as helping unpack supplies delivered to the hospital, or helping prepare medkit packs for the field. This included soldier pills, gauze wraps, basic antidotes, burn cream, and so on.
When we weren't doing missions, Kurenai and Shizune were busy training under Tsunade in the basics of medical jutsu. They still weren't able to get the fish to start jumping around again. They would often come over to study my notes to get through the textbooks Tsunade had written.
With how dense those textbooks were, it made me wonder if I should add in my notes and publish them as several volumes.
While they were busy with that, I was doing two things: Training my taijutsu hard to prepare for the Eight Gates, and working together with Lady Katsuyu to fully understand the Byakugou Seal. By the end of the week, I was confident enough to make the seal myself. I could have gotten it a while ago, since I was good enough at writing seals that I could have just copied it all down piece by piece, but I wanted to fully understand it.
“Tsunade, I believe I'm ready to get the seal. However, I have some changes I would like you to check. I added the ability to split and merge the storage portion of the seal as I need, to store different types of chakra.”
“Different types of chakra? Let me see.”
I gave her the scroll, where I documented all of the changes. I had gotten the Seal Master exam results back—I passed, of course—so I could now legally make my own seals like this. It was much easier to modify a seal directly before it was applied, then trying to add new features onto an existing seal, so I had to make the changes I wanted now.
Tsunade looked through them with a frown.
“I don’t know about this, Sakai. I've only heard references to these chakras, and all of them were warnings of extreme danger. You shouldn't be messing with these,” she said.
“I'm aware. Lady Katsuyu drilled that into my head. Here, these are my own findings on these chakra types. Though I'm going to be saving these as my own family's personal jutsus, so don't share them with anyone,” I said and handed over some scrolls, containing my research into chakra types. I was only sharing them with Tsunade because of how close she was personally. I trusted her to be discreet.
I also sealed them so only Tsunade can access them, so there's that.
“I also have the other storage methods restricted to manual input only, so it doesn't constantly drain me. Only the normal chakra will be automatically stored.”
“I see. Give me a day or two to fully look these over,” Tsunade said, tucking the scrolls into her ninja pouch.
“Sakai!” Kurenai and Shizune arrived. Shizune bounded over to them excitedly, grinning from ear to ear.
“Good morning, ladies,” I said.
“Sakai, I was just telling Kurenai, my uncle, Dan Kato, finally agreed to teach me his Spirit Transformation Jutsu!” Shizune said excitedly.
“That's amazing, Shizune!”
“Hehe, thanks,” Shizune smiled.
“That jutsu is incredibly powerful, Shizune, make sure you practice it diligently,” Tsunade cautioned.
“I will, Tsunade.”
“Great. Today, we will be scrubbing down the OR rooms, so be prepared for a long day!”
All three of us groaned.

The next day, I met with Tsunade at her house.
“Sakai, I've finished looking over your changes. I didn't see anything wrong with the fuinjutsu scripts, and everything is theoretically sound. Would you like to apply the seal today?”
“Yes!”
Shizune was busy learning from Dan Kato today, so their team wasn't taking any missions today to give her the time necessary to learn properly. Knowing that, Kurenai would be spending the day with her own father to practice her genjutsu. Seeing Shizune get a strong jutsu, she was extra motivated to improve her own craft further.
Which was fine for both of them. Their main focus wasn’t on Iryojutsu, it was their family’s jutsus, so they needed some time to train on their own to do that.
“Then let's begin.”
We moved to the large courtyard, which was designed to be a good place for fuinjutsu seals, and started.
It took us hours to write it all out, and triple checking everything to make sure it was all correct. Then I took my clothes off, so Tsunade could draw out the portion of the fuinjutsu that was on my body. Tsunade had to do this part, because it was much harder to write in my own body than on the ground. This bit of script was what acted as the extra chakra pathways on the body, and they connected to various tenketsu points all around, including his back, so I couldn't reach those.
I also had to lay flat in the very center, so the script on the ground and on his body would align properly.
I didn’t really feel too embarrassed about this. Mainly, because both of us were doctors, and were very professional about it.
When she was done, she went off in the distance so she could safely summon Lady Katsuyu without the summoning script wouldn’t interfere with what they had just written down.
Lady Katsuyu was necessary while applying the seal so she would be connected.
“Ah, I see we're applying the seal to young Sakai,” Katsuyu said. She split off a tiny portion of herself, forming a tiny slug no larger than a fingernail. That tiny slug came over to sit on a small filled in circle that was on the ground just above my head.
The larger portion of Katsuyu stayed off to the side to watch. At this point, there wasn't much anyone else could do, so I triggered the seal by releasing chakra from my “third eye” tenketsu point on my forehead.
The fuinjutsu script, which was large enough to take up the entire courtyard, rippled out in a wave as it came alive. When the wave reached the outer edge, it began writhing and contorting in on itself. The tiny fingernail sized portion of Katsuyu melted into the script. It was what acted as the link to Katsuyu.
Eventually, the script crawled its way up and around my body until it condensed into a tiny pistachio green diamond on my forehead, just like Tsunade.
I immediately felt the drain on my chakra system. It was a subtle thing, and I was still generating more chakra naturally than it took, but it was there. I could control the amount of chakra I was storing at will, so if I wanted to, I could stop it entirely, or I could dump all of my chakra in a few seconds, as if I was using the Rasengan.
However, believe it or not, it was not an unlimited storage. Storage space in fuinjutsu is directly reflected in how large you make the seal in the first place. The more space you want, and the more complicated the thing you wanted to store was, the larger the seal was required.
This principle also impacts summoning seals. The bigger the seal, the larger the summoning animal you can summon.
It's another reason why the Byakugou Seal took up the entire courtyard, aside from the complexity of the seal itself. In total, the seal can store up to 5 times Tsunade’s reserves. That’s about 20-30 times my own reserves.
When it was done settling, I put my clothes back on and went to Tsunade and Katsuyu.
“Congratulations, Sakai,” they said.
“Let’s run through some tests, just to make sure it was working properly,” I said.
I knew the standard features were working, because I could feel the chakra drain, so I tried changing the rate of the drain, to its maximum, then down to nothing. All good.
Then I released the seal, and the added chakra pathways spanned out across my face and down my body. The chakra that was stored during this brief time was being dumped into the new pathways. All good.
I cycled my natural chakra through my body, and through the new pathways. No leaks. All good.
“Okay. The normal features of the seal are working. Lady Katsuyu, I’m going to try sending you some chakra now.”
“I’m ready,” Katsuyu nodded.
I channeled my chakra to the part of the seal where the sliver of Katsuyu was sealed.
“I’m receiving your chakra without issue,” Lady Katsuyu reported.
“Okay, now I’m going to try splitting the storage for different chakra types.”
“Be careful, Sakai,” Tsunade said worriedly.
“I’ll only use a tiny portion.”
I closed up the seal again, and the script retracted into the diamond. I hadn’t gone through any of the chakra, I was just moving it around, so it still had some chakra in it. I split the storage space into two equal portions. The chakra that was inside was separated into the two different spaces.
I sighed. It was just as I thought. It was a bit annoying, but it was manageable. I activated the seal again. A part of my added design was that I could toggle which storage space was being used, so I dumped the chakra that was in one storage into my pathways, switched to the other storage space, then closed the seal again, so that all of the chakra was stored into one space.
Now I had one space that had the normal chakra, and one empty space.
I tried splitting storage again, splitting the empty space into two. All good, then split the one with the chakra again. It split the chakra again, but this was a part of the test. Splitting a chakra filled storage by itself was one thing, splitting one when there existed empty storage “next to it” was another. I had to see if any chakra would spill over to one of the empty ones. All good.
Two spaces with normal chakra, two empty. Then I tried merging one of the empty storages with one that had chakra. It merged without issue. All good. I tried to merge two chakra filled spaces. No problem.
Now I had one that had the chakra, with three quarters the total storage capacity and one empty space that was one quarter the total capacity.
“Okay, looks like the splitting and merging storage spaces are working,” I said so Tsunade would know what I was doing.
“I'll try storing some Dark Chakra now.”
I had to sit down to meditate so I can get into the proper frame of mind to produce Dark Chakra. I only generated a tiny bit of it, so I didn't overtly impact my mind again. Over the course of this past week, I had gotten much better at this. I switched over to the smaller, empty space and stored the Dark Chakra. All good.
Now, on my forehead, one corner of the diamond had turned black, representing the stored Dark Chakra.
“Success. Merging storage spaces now.”
In my mind, this was the most dangerous portion of the tests. Depending on the chakra types involved, there may be a violent reaction that could compromise the seal. I would have to test each chakra type I want to use in a controlled manner before I could store larger quantities of it.
There wasn't an issue merging the spaces, but there was an interesting observation that wasn't noticeable before with only normal chakra.
Upon merging, it was interesting to see that the Dark Chakra wasn't “injected” from the side, but appeared all at once in the very center of the normal chakra before gradually dissipating throughout the normal chakra. It was interesting to see how space worked.
I continued to run through the same tests, now using Light Chakra and Hermit Chakra. Those were the only other chakra types I had access to at the moment.
“The seal works perfectly!”
Tsunade breathed a sigh of relief. She bowed in thanks to Katsuyu, “Thanks for your help, Lady Katsuyu.”
“Thank you, Lady Katsuyu,” I said, bowing in thanks.
“Until next time,” Katsuyu bowed back and poofed into smoke.
The rest of the day, I dumped all of my chakra into the seal, then took one of my recovery pills, and increased the drain to match the generation.

Two more weeks have passed since I got the Byakugou Seal. They were at their team’s training grounds, where Shizune showed the team her Spirit Transformation Jutsu. She made a long string of hand signs—over 20 of them!—and yelled “Spirit Transformation Jutsu!” Then she collapsed to the ground like she was dead.
“Shizune!” Kurenai gasped and rushed over to check on her. I looked around, but I couldn’t see Shizune’s spirit. I had thought that because it was using chakra, even if it was Spirit Chakra, we would be able to see her spirit.
She was invisible.
“Kya!” Kurenai screamed. She was clutching her hair, looking around warily. “Shizune? Was that you?”
Something ruffled my hair, and the way it felt, felt like whoever was doing it was above me. I reached up to try and block the hand, but the hair ruffling continued unimpeded.
So she could attack, and no one could block her. A truly terrifying jutsu.
“Hahaha, this is amazing, Shizune!” I laughed.
Shizune’s body jerked back awake, and grinned at them. “Cool, right?”
“It’s a little scary,” Kurenai muttered.
Tsunade arrived, in full shinobi attire. “Team, get your gear ready! We’re getting our first C-Ranked mission!”
