Demi

It would seem they killed H-Man rest in pieces Side note about the episode, I was curious if Chille Tid meant anything, apparently it Norwegian for "Chilling Time"

Kemi Stanton

Oh baby I'm ready to get into THIS! Especially with all the Pearl controversy hounding this reaction, because this is definitely one of Pearl's lowest points to me. I remember liking her well enough my first watch and having a lot of sympathy for her even then, but cry for help made me so angry with her. Even now it's hard to watch. She really royally messed up here and even the fiercest Pearl stan has to KNOW it.

Sabine Hernandez

before i start watching imma meditate cuz ik exactly whats gon be said and im READY for it LMFAOOOO 😭

TrixieTurner

They did it, I ship greg and pearl now.

TrixieTurner

They have shown a triple fusion before, when Connie's parents had dinner with Steven's family all three gems fused into alexandrite. Pearl and amethyst have fused in the giant woman episode and when the giant space hand attacked. They're in control but they're fusion can come apart easy because they're so different.

ghostdetective

I know the guys don't have the best impression of Pearl, and that's understandable. But you also have to consider the message the show is trying to send to kids, about relationships, and how they can be healthy and open about communication, and how they can not. All the fusions are metaphors for relationships after all, even if it's romantic or platonic or friendship. And the Gems HAVE been changing during the show, I'm glad you guys noticed. All of the gems have been becoming more human, more changeable. Which is in stark contrast when you see the Homeworld gems and how they act. Even lapis is different from knowing steven.

GainingGamer

idk why but h mans commentary has been really deep lately.

Ranginald Vagel

“If Pearl and Amythyst fused” bro forgot about the first fusion in the show

TrixieTurner

They mentioned early that sugilite lost control because of the combination of rash and reckless personalities. Also I don't really remember you guys ever ragging on amethyst like at all.

Vilmu

(Referring to you talking about how Garnet now feels more like the mom than Pearl) I personally think Garnet becoming more chill and stuff after the Ruby and Sapphire reveal is meant to represent like coming out and stuff. She's now more comfortable with being open and emotional. While Pearl wants to be the responsible one, in the end she isn't as mature as she likes to think and has her own issues surfacing more.

Kemi Stanton

WOW! Now that's I've watched it all the way through, I'm really impressed with how quickly Ruff clocked Pearl, wanting what Garnet is and missing that connection with Rose. Like the signs are all there but you pointed it out so precisely and accurately - excellent catch dude

alejandro

H-Man: 😃😃😃👍

Deiondre0

This episode makes me realize how ironic it is that Opal (Pearl and Amethyst's fusion) is the most mild-mannered fusion we've seen up to now (except for Garnet of course)

MariVictal

I find it so funny of them talking if they are going to see a fusion with the 3 of them. Forgetting that alexandrite already showed up in that episode that they met Connie parents.

Jasmine

Love your takes on this episode. Pearl and Amethyst definitely are more similar than people make them seem. I think there are pros and cons to all the gems though. Also, fun fact, all gems are canonically non-binary! However, Stevonnie is intersex and uses they/them pronouns.

Eric

h man wouldn’t have forgotten about opal smh

JRax 17

Haven’t watch the video yet, but is H man OK he hasn’t been around for the last few reactions. Is there like a joke Im missing lol

DementisXYZ

To answer how Steven was made, Rebecca Sugar did confirm around this time in the show that Rose shapeshifted a womb and was impregnated by Greg. When Steven came to full term, Rose then disappeared (probably, visually, ot might've looked like her retreating into her gem, that part's unconfirmed) and Steven was all that remained. I definitely understand the frustration with the fantasy. Pearl and Amethyst are both very flawed characters, and I like both of them better for it. I don't understand how people can say "Amethyst is annoying, Pearl is perfect" or "Pearl is a terrible person, Amethyst is perfect." They're both great characters with flaws...like actual people.

Maka

You guys have seen Pearl and Amethyst fuse before. Do you not remember the Giant Women episode? Or the season one final?

Ok

We saw their fusion. It was the first one we saw

Zach

How does Steven die if he has healing spit? Wouldn't he just heal himself until he was too dehydrated to make more spit?

mykanike

Although I'm not one of the pearl stans who have been screeching at you, I do feel like you guys give Amethyst more understanding than Pearl. That could be because pearl fans have made you have more animosity towards her character, but yall seemed completely chill with Amethyst by the end of the episode when she changed into Rose in front of Greg, and you always rag on Pearl. Don't get me wrong, the first time I watched the show I disliked both Pearl and Amethyst cause I thought they were both annoying until later on, but your guys' annoyances definitely seems more skewed towards Pearl.

mykanike

Pearl is definitely one of those "gets worse before she gets better" characters. I hated her for a while because of this epi

wolfiwolfpie

Finally, a perfect episode to rag on pearl! No Pearl fan can defend her here, so go at it. This is your moment! Be free!

Zach

Did they forget Opal AND Alexandrite this episode?

dai

Yall have seen a Pearl and Amethyst fusion, yall saw them fuse more than once.

VJ Sins

You might have Been asking for a steven + everyone but in case you haven't and just wanted to see a crystal gems one, we already saw jt in alexandrite when steven introduces his family to connies

VJ Sins

Amethyst was the one who named Stevonnie

VJ Sins

Well we already saw Opal in Giant Woman(also in s1 finale when they were tryingto stop the hand) , and they were somewhat stable, but they didnt last long.

Joey

i think sugilite was ironically more stable this time around because her components were less stable. garnet was angry and tunnel-visioned on the goal of breaking the hub and getting it over with, amethyst felt uneasy about the situation and probably didn't even really want to fuse, so they finished the job and separated. it could also be a matter of amethyst realizing how bad it was last time and focusing on having a better outcome

Demi

Yea I'm pretty sure they just have terrible object permanence. They will remember they exist when they see them again, but if they aren't on screen they forget it was a thing at all.

Joey

i thought it was funny how they forgot about opal but remembered rainbow quartz

Vilmu

The thing with her is that she acts chill, but she unfuses super easily if Pearl and Amethyst lose focus (like more easily than fusions normally do.)

JRax 17

I think it’s just because amethyst personality is generally more fun than pearls pearl does have a stick in the mud personality It seems most of the time so it’s understandable that they would defend amethyst more

Vilmu

Gems canonically don't have private parts, but they can shapeshift if they want to. Rose had breasts, most likely because she saw humans and thought "I want those." They are technically non-binary, but all Gems resemble women and there aren't any "male" Gems (except Steven or if a hypothetical Gem started to identify as a one.)

Sydney Horton

Jasper called Amethyst an "overcooked runt". We also know this from the kindergarten episode "On the Run" because when Steven asked Amethyst about the other holes she had no idea who they were, meaning any other gems made on earth were long gone before Amethyst emerged.

mykanike

I can understand that. I was just confused when they said they gave Amethyst her fair share of criticism cause they never do lol

MiMiLock

opal and alexandrite were a figment of our collective imagination

MiMiLock

yeah, i was a real pearl hater back in the day and even i didn't think she was trying to be rude in that scene in chille tid

Julio Castillo

As far as i know nobody is saying stuff like "Pearl is Perfect" or "Amethyst is Perfect" and if there are... i think what they meant is that they are amazingly-written characters. and just to note... of course everyone can have their favorites and their least favorites, if you don't like Pearl for how her demeanor is then that's completly valid. what does feel odd (at least from our perspective) is that you guys rag on Pearl for things that aren't that bad while being completly understanble and chill when amethyst makes mistakes of her own. if anything... THIS is the Right Time to rag on Pearl because HERE she Fucked Up Severely, anyone with common sense would be mad at her (i personally didn't get mad cuz i knew there was a psychological and emotional justification for her actions here, but that's just me). But as people here has been saying... this show is all about Growth, Tolerance and Forgiveness so... im really excited to see guys react to all of these character's developments from this point.

drac

Ah this episode, caused SO much controversy within the fandom. Pearl was a well liked character and then the Sardonyx stuff happened, I feel it was the start of the fandom tearing itself apart. Very tiring stuff. As for her actions, she didn't put the world in danger, but she sure did sacrifice Garnet's trust just so she could feel the brief high of feeling better. I admittedly wasn't looking forward to this one, while I'm pretty neutral on you ragging on Pearl for the most part, I worried on this one. However, I think you guys went surprisingly easy on her! I appreciate that you analyzed and shared thoughts on the situation rather than jumping to how she's 'the worst.'

Sydney Horton

The fact that they remember Giant Women but not the fusion

iron pirate76

you guys probably forgot but pearl and amethyst have fused, it was opal the one with bow and arrow

Seraphem

Amazing discussion about this at the end. The episode does a great job of showing us and letting us understand why Pearl was doing this, with even Amethyst wanting to fuse with Garnet just as badly. Though to me it feels more like, for all Amethyst talked about feeling powerful, what I think both her and Pearl most get from fusing with Garnet is sharing in Garnet's self confidence. It's likely the only time those two actually feel good about themselves. Both of them have a whole host of issues, and yeah many of them similar, they just have completely opposite types of coping mechanisms to deal with them. But both really do not seem to think well of themselves.

Sorta Stupid

If you think we never criticize amethyst you’re either not paying attention or something. We absolutely criticize Pearl more because we personally find more faults in the way Pearl acts. But saying we never criticize amethyst is just blatantly false.

Sorta Stupid

Also amethyst turning into rose did not put all of the gems, Steven and potentially the world at risk the way Pearl did. They aren’t even remotely comparable lol

Circuitdoodles

I haven’t seen anyone talk about it but a thing I remember from the Onion episode was people debating on if Onion had autism or not and if it was bad representation if he did. I don’t really have a strong opinion either way since Onion is a funny kid who clearly likes Steven in his own weird way since he stole his chips to lead him to his house. He also sees Steven upset about feeding the mouse to the snake so he just holds it in his mouth for whatever logic onion uses. He also gave him a toy he knows he likes for hanging out with him.

mykanike

I never said your criticism of Pearl was wrong. I even commented about how I hated her for a long time after this episode. I’m talking about how you guys compared Pearl and Amethyst at the end of the react. I wouldn’t say I’m biased towards Pearl and I’d say I pay attention, but from what I can recollect, and forgive me if I’m wrong, you guys usually either excuse Amethyst’s behavior or laugh it off. I really hope I’m not coming off as a Pearl stan cause I promise I’m not one, but I was commenting less on Pearl’s actions in Cry For Help (which of course are inexcusable) and how you’ve talked about the characters in previous reactions.

apple jacked

I... never thought about it that way, though this is the first I've heard about Onion possibly being on the spectrum. I just thought it was cause he was more like his dad who I believe might have been confirmed to be from a different country within the Steven world. But not sure if I remember that one correctly either, but it would make sense with how Onion acts.

apple jacked

Not to mention he can control his physical age, so theoretically he couldn't die from aging unless he let himself feel really old again.

apple jacked

Just in case, it was Ameythest that named Stevonie

Kemi Stanton

I'm autistic - I actually never thought about Onion being autistic until this exact reaction watch, something about revisiting onion made me think about how he's nonverbal and weird about food, and I think the hints actually are sort of there! Autism presents in many different ways and I always personally found Peridot to be autistic coded and a character I really loved and related to. But I am mostly verbal (I lose words when I am overloaded or having a meltdown), and don't know a lot about the strictly nonverbal experience, but since meeting now autistic people the stuff you're saying makes a lot of sense and I can totally see it too!

Ryanne Gentry

I agree! I was worried about how they would react to pearl but they did a great job analyzing the gems and what was pearls reasoning for what she did. Obviously what she did was wrong but I’m so happy they looked past the surface level and came to the conclusion about how pearl, as well as amethyst, have their insecurities that influence their behavior

Sorta Stupid

We don’t have terrible object permanence lol. We remember all of those episodes but no, we’re not going to remember exactly which combination of people make which fusion on a whim each time. We all very much remember the time amethyst and Pearl fused. Just not that the fusion was the two of them specifically.

Henry_l79

Just to refresh your memories Garnet, Amethyst and Pearl already fused together in Season1 episode 32.

dai

which is fine, yall are only on Season 2, when I first started watching SU, I kept forgetting everyone's names and fusion names. Yall will get to the point when everything will start coming back when yall see them fuse more.

Brian

Pearl's relationship with Rose is like the mail man's relationship with Garnet.

gale

I know you were joking, but no, Pearl definitely will never have a crush on Greg. she's 100% a lesbian. not all gems are, as we see with Rose of course, but a lot of gems are, to our standards, lesbians because they only like other gems, who are all very feminine

gale

Also, great question about their biology! Gems are sexless, but naturally appear very feminine, so to us humans, we assume they are "women", but they don't have any gender at all. they can assume a human gender if they would want to, Amethyst displays genderfluidity through her wrestling persona, for example, but they don't have any bits unless they shapeshift some bits

Hikka

You guys are so awesome, I really enjoyed your thoughts at the end of this episode. I was worried because you don't like Pearl but I loved hearing the analysis and similarities you drew between her and Amethyst.

Katherine Lott

They call each other "she" as well. They are sexless, but gender is a construct and they clearly consider themselves femme. All gems are femme except Steven because he considers himself his sex assigned at birth, right? 🙂

Count

Y’all probably don’t check this far back, but the mineral malachite is actually toxic in water and considered a safety hazard, further showing JUST how toxic their fusion is

Jordan Rudnick

if they all fuzed, it's quadruple, not triple

Jordan Rudnick

Also, the question for Steven fusions is would they be the same as Rose fusions? and would they remember who they are
