Kemi Stanton

This episode hurt me so much :c RIP Mako, an absolute legend

NownSir

Here come the waterworks!

ZayZillions

Best episode out of the entire series in my personal opinion

Bazil

Actually Toph does know what she looks like. At least roughly. She can detect features on someone's face using sesmic touch. In one of the comics she makes a statue of herself and its fairly accurate.

NiamhVT

Iroh's story always gets me. The song will forever make me tear up.

Leo Kester

don’t cry don’t cry don’t cry

Ksweets

Welp wasn’t planning on crying today but here we go

SauceyRed

It's been so long since I last watched Avatar, so I don't remember which episodes these are, but the comments are giving me hints that they're not happy episodes lmao.

KaitouKay1412

Rip Iroh's OG voice actor Mako. This was the last episode he did before he passed away. His devotion to the series was unreal. He was the goat and such a great actor.

Chris

Mako was Iroh's voice actor. What's even more "tearbending" is that he recorded these last lines for this episode on his death bed. Just like his character, Mako was a true badass and completely devoted to his craft. RIP. Also, side note--he played Aku in Samurai Jack.

NebulaNyx

Rest in Peace Mako. You helped bring to life one of the greatest characters in one of the greatest stories ever told. Thank you so much.

Colton

Yeah, I don't know if you guys caught that Mako was Iroh's voice actor. He passed away before Season Two of Avatar could finish airing.

The Sigil Chronicles

The more recent VA for Iroh declines every request to sing this song, out of respect for Mako

Fabbrizio Plays

Not quite true. Mako was the voice for all of season 2, minus a couple moments where Greg Baldwin had to step in. He passed away shortly after The Library aired.

zimXzombie

Actually it seems it might be correct in regards to the *last* that he filmed before passing away, not necessarily the order that they aired.

Ryanne Gentry

The portrait of iroh’s son is actually how irohs voice actor looked when he was a young man, who passed away from cancer

SweetCandle

In the show: Leaves From The Vine makes a boy stop crying. Outside the show: Leaves From The Vine makes grown men start crying.

KaitouKay1412

yes i was referring to the one he actually recorded last before passing away. I know its still his voice for the rest of the season but I think they recorded this one after those and released it mid season to honor him. Someone correct me if im wrong tho

Will F

The picture was a depiction of Irohs voice actor who passed away from cancer this is the last recording he ever did for Iroh

Jared Wasserman

"Episodes 15 & 16 at once." Well, time to get emotionally crushed again.

Honey

The "in honour of Mako" is for Irohs voice actor. The scene of him singing to his son on the hill was the last voice line he recorded before he passed away. He does still voice the rest of the season, but they recorded out of order. So that scene kinda hits a bit harder watching it, knowing that he passed shortly after.

logan

Mako “irohs” voice actor died so the end was a tribute. The picture of iroh son was also of the voice actor.

Isaac Ahlquist

When you guys talked with Merphy Napier on Manga Bros you mentioned that old guys crying always get you. She dropped Iroh’s name kind of hinting at this episode. Now you know what she was talking about 😆 😭

John Cabral

When I got the notifications of the two episodes today I openly said at work "Well, looks like it's gonna be big sad night tonight"

Gestrid

Mako is Iroh's voice actor. The story goes that the show runners knew Mako was dying, so they changed the ending to his short story asked him to record some new lines. Allegedly, these were the final lines he recorded for the show before he passed away.

Petrichor

Sees which episodes are Silver Tier this week: "Oh, so we have chosen pain, I see..."

Pixie

Boom, I’m pretty sure that those are “Dragon-Flies”. With the snakey body, and the four insect wings, would imply dragonflies of some sort.

Miranda Wakeman

It's a simple fact of life, I hear 'leaves from the vine', I immediately cry

Lord Gen

I've seen everyone else talking about Mako so I want to point out something new, in Sokka's tale his attention was caught with a poem about the moon, who is now Yue

Seraphem

How to tell if someone has watched this show..... just sing "leaves from the vine..." and see if they tear up....

VJ Sins

Toph SAID she doesn't live for anyones approval, but its clear those girls did get to her. And just like Katara very subtly said "I know it doesn't matter but you look pretty" it does matter to her, shes just gotta look tough to herself on the outside

AzureWolfe

Don't know if it's been said yet, but "Mako" referred to Makoto Iwamatsu, the Voice Actor for Iroh, who passed away after recording but during editing for Book 2.

GrandStorm

Iroh's story makes me tear up no matter how many times Ive watched it.

Shawn Oxley

Iroh's tale always gets me RIP Mako

Brye Baker

They made this episode so they could use the last of the voice lines they recorded for him. The very last thing they recorded was him singing the song and he recorded it from his hospital bed. I will never not cry because of the story behind it.
