These days the big talk is about Patreon and its changes to fees. Those of you who follow my Twitter account already know I signed a petition to make Patreon rethink that, so you understand my feelings about this.

It's the second time in six months that I post things not related to game progress, and I'm not glad about this too. For transparency though I think you should know how your money are spent month after month on this project.

I cannot give you precise numbers as some of these are based on private agreements between my suppliers and myself, but I want you to know what I'm paying right now each month.

Daz3d - 35%

Each month I buy new assets from them, new characters, clothing, hair styles, poses etc. I think this is necessary since I introduce at least four new characters each update (mostly patients of course) and I don't want them to look each other alike.

Taxes and currency exchange - 20%

Of course I have to pay Patreon fees, Paypal. Also consider that 1$ = 0.83€, so if you pledge me 1000$ I receive 830€. Plus there are italian taxes to pay too :)

Computer, Electricity, house bills - 5%

I work on this project about 3/4 hourse each day, Saturdays and Sundays included, after I finish working at my main job. This has its costs of course.

Web hosting - 5%

The web hosting for www.brunimultimedia.com, the new cloud hosting for downloading game updates from a safe source and automatically manage updates on brunimultimedia.cloud, plus the website development.

Soundtrack  and Image Rendering- 5%

The costs of a Nvidia Iray Server to render images each month plus the expenses for developing the soundtrack.

Personal share - 30%

Those money I'm taking as my own, because this is more than a hobby as I put around 24 hours/week to work on this. This includes not only developing the game, but managing social accounts, release builds, testing, contacting suppliers, study Ren'Py and other products,

So that's for explaining how your money is actually spent. I hope you'll continue to support me over the next few months. Development is not at risk, I always said that the game will be completed and you already have the road map for it. Since Patreon is asking for more I just wanted you to know your support is not wasted, you deserve this much.

Be safe and healthy,

I too sincerely appreciate your sharing of the financials with the public. Creating great games isn't as simple as a hope and an idea, there are real costs involved. Like you, I've signed the petition to get Patreon to reverse course. However, the pessimist in me says they aren't going to listen to signatures. I've removed all of my pledges. I want to resume my support for the creators whose content I enjoy, but Patreon is a for-profit company. They need to see the problem isn't simply "Internet outrage", and it's going to hurt them. I hope Patreon does the intelligent thing and reverses course. Otherwise, I encourage the creators to find alternate ways of being funded. I won't throw 1/3 of my pledge away to payment processors because Patreon doesn't understand their value-add. Especially in light of their newly hostile attitude toward adult creators. Maybe Drip will be the answer if Patreon doesn't get it?

I see your point, I really do. Still, please beware that while "hurting" Patreon you're (by "you" I mean pledgers in general) also hurting creators, especially smaller ones. Whilst Patreon can come out of this with minor losses, most creators will be ruined for good. If you check my website you'll see other ways to support me and you'll get more in time, but I won't ever leave Patreon for good. Having a monthly "wage" is what allows us to transform this activity from an hobby to a real job, especially those like me who also have a newborn to take care of. Alternate ways to be funded can make a project survive, but can hardly allow a creator to live with his own creations. Plus, the 1/3 increase is very high for small pledgers and it's almost nothing to bigger ones, who are rightfully leaving too!

Just remember of us hard-working folks and help us to live up to these changes, because when Drip or something else will be ready many of us won't be. I'm not talking about me, since my hope is to increase pledgers in time with my work, but have a read at twitter with #patreonfees and you'll know what I mean :)

It's a difficult situation, and frankly I think Patreon thought they could exploit that to their advantage. There is no way for us, as patrons, to hurt them directly. The pain has to be felt through the creators, and it's awful. At the same time, I don't know of a better way to show Patreon that people are serious about what a disaster it is and get immediate action. I will say that I don't think this will result in minor losses for Patreon. The CEO himself has admitted it's been a disaster, privately. If the people speak in droves by removing pledges, I don't think Patreon will be able to fail to act before the deadline. The way they've done this is already going to cost them money, and they aren't so profitable that they can afford to lose even more following the first month's cycle. I do hope for the best for you and the "smaller" creators out there trying to survive. It's why I donate my time for some similar projects to do native English proofreading/editing. I'm happy to help people fulfill their dreams, but I can't allow Patreon to gouge me in that endeavor. It's no different than finding out a charity spends 40% of their income on executive salaries. No matter how good the end result is, your money is better given where it's better used.

Again, I see your point. Since I live in Italy all my pledges are taxed 22% If I pledge 1$ it's 1,22 (assuming 1$ = 1€ for simplicity) If I pledge 5$ it's 6,10 If I pledge 100$ it's 122$ and so on... So we're used to have our money donated to some external entity (the State in this case). :) I just hope you'll recognize our hard work and choose to support us in time, even if I also hope you'll make so much noise that Patreon will listen to you (us) all. Yeah, it's a difficult situation.

I don't think they're greedy. They could've just placed an 1% higher percent point of "patreon cut" on creator and earned much money. I think they've been naive with this...

Aesire

Probably true. I think many people jumped to greed as the initial answer because it's such a poorly thought out solution. You want to believe that a full year of planning would've resulted in a better plan.
