I love your analysis of the point of this episode. It's an absurd romp through the this pair of sibling's relationship changes and you're spot on with that it is somewhat of a catalyst for what's to come.

We have arrived at last - when I tell people that Monogatari is almost antagonistic to the modern Western audience, this is the episode that springs to mind. To me, the point of this episode is two-fold - first, it is an extremely effective attention grabber, a sort of early example of ragebaiting and shitposting all wrapped up in one - you can't not have a reaction to it, and for all I love so much about this series, it's one of the moments that everyone remembers in sharp relief. The other intent imo is to have some fun that is a bit less cerebral and more classically inappropriate - in the olden days we'd call something like this a sex farce, and I think it's the creators' way to blow off a bit of steam (both the author and the animation studio) and wink at their audience - they know who watches their shows lol

Straight up I definitely asked my gf at the time to let me brush her teeth after this. Results were meh, but it was different! lmao, this is definitely an ascension moment for anime fans. If you make it through this ep, you're pretty unflappable for all of anime imo. Its a seminal work (and like, yeah, that's a joke, but also like, it seriously actually is lmao).
