Why I didn't know you would react to solo leveling? This is a good surprise

It won anime of the year . It's a good show, but no where near Frieren or Apothecary Diaries. That said...I would put it above everything else that you reacted to, and this is all my opinion....the animation is insane. That is just a fact....and the fan service, what little of it is mostly for the ladies. That's a bit different

Now thats what I call good service! Asked for opinions on new shows to watch, some people suggested Solo Leveling and 1 hour later we get the first 3 episodes xD.

I wouldnt put it above every other show, but I know what you mean. I understand why some people are upset that this won Anime of the year, but when it aired, especially s2, there was no other show I looked forward to as much as to this.

isn’t necessarily touched on/mentioned the anime or manwha, (though it is shown later on), but in the novel its mentioned that the main reason jinwoo continues being a hunter is due to the benefit and hospitality the hunters association provides for his mother. seemingly just for being a hunter.

I hate when people say the animation for solo leveling is good. It’s actually trash. 90% of action scenes are just still frames with white lines flashing around the screen. It’s flashy and that’s it. Actual good animation is jjk season 2. Every scene is actually animated instead of still frames. And this isn’t coming from a place of bias. I actually like solo leveling story more than jjk.

did someone seriously just say sl has bad animation lmfao. objectively one of the most well animated shows of the last two years, sl rarely uses still frames, or “lines flashing around the screen”, and consistently moves well above the average show. and ofc whenever action rolls about, animators such as yoshihiro kanno, takafumi torii, maruyama, nakagawa, ryota saito, so on and so on, absolutely nail it. they’re super talented and skilfull animators that create such dynamic animation. which also is a help from the storyboarders that are also super talented such as yuya horiuchi, kikuchi, shunsuke nakashige, hirotaka tokuda, and kento toya, who create that feeling of dynamism in the shot composition, and keep the visuals engaging. calling sl’s animation but is either bait, or just a clear lack of knowledge showing. yes jjk is more well animated, but jjk is one of the most well animated anime’s of the last few decades. it isn’t comparable, and doesn’t make sl bad, sl is incredibly well animated..

Well, this is mildly disappointing:D well we can’t have ALL shows be good am I right?:D I feel lately they only done masterpieces so can’t really complain especially with Re zero just been posted and Monogatari ongoing, here’s hoping the poll will be great, at least there’s not a chance of solo leveling there:D

Good animation alone doesn't really make for good reactions IMO, especially for this channel. I just don't find people saying "wow that was well animated" to be very interesting, and what else can really be said unless you have a background in animation? I think this channel is great because they're some of the best reactors out there when it comes to discussing themes and characters, as well as picking up on details and discussing future possibilities. All of these things require what they're reacting to to have good or at least competent writing, which IMO Solo Leveling does not.

Maybe it'll boost them to or at least closer to 100k subs on yt which they most certainly deserve, just think of it as pulling a band aid, its just 2 cours for now and it eliminates the chance of it ever ruining a poll:d

This is definitely a surprise. Not really a welcome one either lol. But I'm still excited to see you guys' reaction because I would love to hear your thoughts on it. I just hope you'll react honestly without being swayed by hype and popularity because, well, let's just say the show doesn't deserve it.

@KilZero I would say it's a much worse Demon Slayer. Not really much of a story, annoying characters, but good action and animation. I feel like story-wise Solo Leveling might overtake Demon Slayer in time because it does feel like there's things approaching (don't spoil pls) but regarding the annoying characters, especially Sung Jinwoo himself, the first season of Solo Leveling is probably the worst I've ever seen and that's saying something. Regarding action and animation Demon Slayer is obviously above Solo Leveling but Solo Leveling's animation isn't bad. I really do think that Solo Leveling season 1 is among the worst things I've ever seen and I wouldn't have been able to finish it if it weren't for my friend who watched it with me. He read the manhwa and recommended it to me several times in the past but I never got to it. When we were watching the anime together we had so much fun laughing about the incredibly cringe character-writing. Lines like "Yet another emotion gone" were so edgy, it was really hilarious. It really feels like the show was written by a 16 year-old Andrew Tate stan lol. Apparently the manhwa is much better, though. Well, I'm digressing, I wanted to end this comment on a positive note: The second season was a big step-up in my opinion. It became really enjoyable and I started to like when Jinwoo had screen time. I'm actually looking forward to season 3. Edit: Sorry for the whole mountain of text lol

Very overhyped, but kinda overhated too. Sometimes people just need to sit back and watch something they don't need to think alot about it.

this is all just your opinion though lol. i disagree with a lot of what you have to say, but maybe thats because i engage with the story and characters more than you, which is fine. also yeah there are quite good story telling elements coming forth in future seasons. also do you mean literal 2d animation? because in that regard sl is actually better than demon slayer, demon slayer is better in the compositing department, still has great animation, but sl just moves more. saying sl season 1 is among the worst things you've ever seen is definitely... something, but everyone has their tastes. idk how nullifying your emotions and forcing yourself to do an act you wouldnt be able to do otherwise is "edgy" or "cringy" but alright, thats actually a large part of jinwoo's self dehumanisation that he has to overcome. also no the manwha isnt much better, it has a bit better art work overall, but story wise and character writing wise the anime expands on it much more. it never felt like it was written by a 16 yo to me, but sure. also dw idm reading through mountains of text.

@KilZero I would say that saying "Solo Leveling doesn't have much lore so far and the story is quite basic" and "The characters are comparatively shallow" and "It's not really unique because there are many other shows with the same concept" and "Demon Slayer has better animation" are statements that can be said objectively. However, the rest is subjective. For example, me saying that the MC is incredibly cringe during season 1 is just my personal opinion. It's possible that season 1 does gain lore in hindsight though. For example: Season 1 of AoT doesn't have much of lore on first watch but in hindsight you realize that there was a lot, you just didn't have any way to pick up on it yet.

@KilZero There's a video called "Was Solo Leveling Actually Good, or..." by the YouTuber "Overanalyzing Avatar" which explores most of the problems I have with the show, especially it's first season.

In order to engage with the story and characters, there kind of have to be characters to engage with. Nobody in this world matters beside Jinwoo, and he himself is about as empty as possible by design. Lots of people enjoy the show, sure. Lots of people also enjoy Twilight.
