Neon Genesis Evangelion is certainly one of the most influential anime of all time, and has been studied by those in academia. I consider NGE as one of the “big 3” anime of the 90s with the other two being Ghost in the Shell and Cowboy Bebop. Of course, I also enjoyed watching Studio Ghibli movies back then. And FYI, the Steins;Gate Re:Boot visual novel is expected to be released sometime this year. Some say it’s more than a remake, and we will see.

They would absolutely adore that show. Both ben and Anna would have a majority of their favorite elements of anime, present in that show, and pretty much from the beginning too. Short show too. Hope they put it on a poll!

My favorite is Gurren Lagann, but I think they'll have a better reaction to Code Geass, and I think the one that will be the most interesting to discuss is Eva.

Had NGE on VHS tape back then. Time for a rewatch. End of Eva is mind-blowing. The other two I didn't watch, so either of the three is fine. Maybe time for something new.

While I love Code Geass and was one of my first anime and only saw Eva a year or two ago myself, I really haven't seen too many Eva reactions around compared to CG and I found it to be really great, so hoping for Eva now and Code Geass eventually or after, also with CG being 50 eps and Eva being shorter it'll come soon enough. Not too easy a decision though as I like both of em.

It's good. Other than that though, with how in-depth their post-ep discussions usually are, it makes sense that they'd cultivate an audience that'd vote for it. I doubt Eva would win if a lot of other reactors were to run an identical poll.

Just search for Code Geass reactions and Eva reactions and it's pretty obvious there is a pretty significant disparity. Speaking of reactions that do in depth discussions, I only know of Romania Black, Teeaboo, Psyculturists, and Grizz in regards to Eva. The other shows have innumerable reactions of every kind; Eva reactions are countable on one hand.

Man, It's been at least 10 years since I last watched Evangelion. I remember not really understanding a lot about it and, to be honest, my memories are so hazy it feels more like a fever dream of my 13 year mind than actual memories of watching the show. Anyways, I hope Code Geass and Gurren Laggan get a second chance/third chance in the future, all three are certified bangers and for completely different reasons.

question for repliers: isnt the netflix not as ideal? i remember that it doesnt have the 'fly me to the moon' ED's and maybe some wonky subs? i could be wrong though. its probably good enough though. but in general, watch order is the complete series episodes 1-26, then End of Evangelion. no need for death/rebirth. after that, rebuild movies?

Netflix has weird subs and they cut out all the EDs. Watch order is 1-20 and then 21-24 director's cut (which includes most of the content from death/rebirth iirc) (you can tell they're the director's cuts because in the episode they are marked 21` for example and are longer than the normal episodes) then 25-26 then End of Evangelion ideally not the netflix version for any of it haven't seen the rebuilds so idk about those

I'm sure people have said. But do episodes 1-26 of Evangelion tv show followed by End of Eva. A good two week break or so and then watch the Rebuild movies which are a closing to the world of Evangelion as a whole. People will say they're not connected to the tv show at all, but without getting into huge spoilers, that's 100% false. They ARE connected and aren't standalone pieces of media to be consumed even though people thought they were with the first film and a portion of the second film. But definitely don't watch them right after End of Eva. 18TH IS GOING TO BE HYPE!

Just to add my two cents, would recommend a watch order of 1-26, End of Evangelion and then the four rebuild movies. Episodes 21-24 should be longer than a regular episode to ensure you have the right copy (Director's Cut version of the four episodes). Netflix version is probably fine for the easiest way to watch. They do however cut out the EDs and have subs that some might consider wonky. If you're willing to explore other options (similar to Monogatari) I'd recommend the [McBalls] and [Baws] releases of Evangelion, or [Anime Time] if you just want to get everything at once. You can probably get them the same place you got the [MTBB] subs for Monogatari. These releases look better, feel better, taste better, are more accurate and dance better than the Netflix release. But honestly it's not a huge deal either way, Evangelion is still a classic no matter how you watch it. Hope you guys enjoy and I look forward to your reactions!
