hi everyone! We have been hit with 2 copyright strikes in regards to Neon Genesis Evangelion. Both of which claim that the entirety of our videos were infringing on copyright.

This is a scary situation as when a YouTube Channel receives 3 strikes, they are permanently deleted. SO I am linking my personal YouTube account in this post! If the worst-case scenario happens and our channel is deleted, this is where we would be hosting updates/videos on YouTube.

We have reached out via email to hopefully clear this up, but are still awaiting a response. Thank you guys so much!

lots of love, Anna & Ben ^.^

When it comes to the discussion videos, you might have to forgo having there be any footage whatsoever it seems or put a giant block of "Something" in order to cover up the footage. That's what I'm betting it's from.

Good luck. Hopefully things get resolved so you don't lose the channel.

Oof that's indeed scary. For NGE specifically, you might have to only put the discussion and give a link to the full video on your Patreon. I think that would be the safest solution. It's sad but I think everyone would prefer you do everything you can to not have all the hard work you've done over the years be gone.

I’m subbing to this random channel with 1 video from 5 years ago just in case

This isn’t really a solution, but full length reactions with discussion would fall under fair use. I wouldn’t be surprised if Japan started cracking down on content creators in the future, but for the time being, they’re mostly focus on anime piracy sites with investing billions of dollars.

Hope you can sort it out soon! Copyright is always a pain on YouTube.

As for Patreon you might start to think to just upload your full video with patreon player here.

Some reactors upload YouTube videos that don't include the actual reaction and just link to a separate video with the reaction portion. That could be a safe way to proceed for certain shows, at least until your strikes go away. I've followed reactors with 2 strikes in the past, and most of them temporarily privated videos that could result in more strikes. If you haven't done that already, it might be worth considering. Having a backup channel prepared is smart, but I'm hoping it won't be needed. You two have worked so hard, so losing everything you built up would just be awful. Hang in there!!

Some similar posts about Eva from other channels. Pretty bleak how stupid this system is. I hope to see your reactions wrap up in some form or another.

It doesn't matter what's right and what's wrong. For the time being, we are renting a space on YouTube and they have the final say over everything. There is 0 legal protection and even if we provably win a court case over the issue of copyright, it is not enough grounds for reinstatement. The only thing that works is public visibility and bad PR, which necessarily requires the content creator to have enough clout to mobilize enough people.

When it comes to copyright, there are two primary factors involved: amount of content, and monetization. These two are pretty good about cutting the amount of content they show, but generally speaking, there are people who view shows only through reaction channels which is a loss for the people and companies involved in making shows. I don’t think it’s an significant difference from the potential money they are losing from content creators uploading full shows and movies, so it’s not something to be worry about, but you never know with the ultra conservative prime minister Japan just elected.

Japan sadly doesn't even have fair use laws

I kinda hate patreon player, it's super heavy on the filesize so my internet always authonatically switch it to lower video quality, making it almost unwatchable. I prefer the backup channel idea or the separate website as someone else proposed (BlindWave style, if you know them).

Hope everything is ok, if needed do what other reactors do, and upload the reaction on a different site or here, with a link leading to it

That sucks, hopefully you can dispute. Are you removing other evangelion videos?
