Hello Humans,

I finally made you another demonstration video! Sorry it's taken me so long.

This lesson is for any of you who might be interested, but especially those who pledge on the HANDS and BRAIN tiers, so thank you for your patience.

May I present... my first ever breathwork class:

AN INTRODUCTION TO BREATHING.

In this short video I briefly explain what a full belly breath is, and how to do it.

An ordinary, unconscious breath is just filling the lungs partially, but in this video I'll explain how to breath right down to the bottom of the lungs and inflate the diaphragm.

This technique is important for any kind of nervous system breathwork, and even more if you want to become a singer.

---

Hope you enjoy the video.

New music coming later this month. Thank you for being here.

Love,

Mishkin

PS - Hey all! Sorry I forgot to add in the recorded exercises: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/3op2h4u434ls3e0xwm5po/ANNC63JoaMGGrENVImTQt0I?rlkey=3lhozzu9ztevlh4wlyh8w9bou&dl=0 they're up in the dropbox now

I don’t think I’ll ever be a singer (my ears can recognise notes, intervals, chords etc but my voice can’t seem to replicate what I hear), so I tried doing some of these, breaths just to see how it felt. Sadly I don’t have a flat tummy like yours, so I couldn’t see it expanding and contracting like yours did, but I did feel “better” somehow and more relaxed afterwards. I have some residual long Covid which means my lungs don’t work as well as they did before I caught it, so hopefully this breathing will help get them working a bit better 😊

I was well educated to sing in my youth and still observe breathing deeply for talking and calming down. Thanks for the nice reminder.

that's great you've always got that tool! I'm so new to all this, although I was trained to breathe as a singer I've only discovered it as a tool for mental health last year and the difference in my anxiety is unreal

Ahh Ian never say never, I'll be doing some pitch exercises soon! ...and you never know I bet you've got a fearsome deathgrowl - usually people with more body mass can do incredible things with their voice and really thick frys. In the metal world it can be a huge advantage to have a non-flat tummy. Listen to Will Gardner of Black Peaks and you'll hear what I mean!!

Thanks for the feedback guys! I totally forgot - me and Garry made an audio track to go along with this video for you to use anytime you want to feel calmer or increase your lung capacity in prep for singing/screaming. I'll add it asap

Ian Hall

I look forward to those exercises, then. Haha, well you never know. If I could do a “Randy Blythe” I’d be very happy- or even a Tom Waites style slow Blues 😉

Mishkin Fitzgerald

Randy Blythe is king! My fav fry screamer for sure... Tom Waits is also a legend. I look forward to hearing Ian Hall tho! xx
