1. Yeah, *fuck* Satine! But like. Keep it literal. 2. Oh Battam... so much internalized shame about perfectly normal emotions! Of course control would also feel extra good if you never have it anywhere else in your life... I wonder if this... overdone self control is a part of the unhealthy coping mechanism. Just like some people start taking control to unhealthy places in other aspects like food, exercise or work sometimes to cope with helplessness. It definitely reminds me of people denying themselves important stuff because it gives them agency back in their mind. At the same time, this is clearly also the toxic mantras of the covens seeping into Battam's core. Control yourself! Keep it together! It's so painful because like many people, Battam clearly intellectually understands that the covens suck on that level - but the doctrine is still deeply rooted in his very core, haunting him from the inside. I can't wait for Sal to show him both the full spectrum of indulgment he is allowed to have and how lovable he is in all his fury and pettiness and vulnerability. Sal was never pining for a Prince Charming. He was always going to love the wicked grins and wild games, and all of Battams tears and yells.
