This thing is cool!  Also, I am going to try and do some narrated versions of my future videos (including this one), just for you Patrons.

Let me know what you think about that.  I'll post the narrated version soon.

Antique Jewelry Lathe [Restoration]

This tool restoration was on a 1920s jewelry or polishing treadle lathe (Model 29 1/2) made by the Goodell-Pratt Company. These lathes were made for light-duty use and came with a number of different attachements, including a buffing wheel spindle. This specific lathe seemed to contain parts from larger lathes made by Goodell-Pratt at the time. Regardless, each part was in fairly good condition, with only the chuck needing some machining. The ring on the chuck was welded up and knurled again, but the steel became quite hard after welding and annealing that it did not turn out the best it could. I am not sure what the type of steel is, so it's possible it can air harden. The original colours, as noted in catalogue listings were black and vermillion. I am sure sure if this grey painted base is original. I made a dead centre out of case-hardened mild-steel. I really hope to find the larger versions of this lathe as they had a full cross-slide that enabled you to do some nice metal lathe machining. If you want to know more about my process and history of this tool, you can check out the narrated version on my Patreon page. I'd like to thank Evapo-Rust for sponsoring this video. Very cool was thinking about picking one up ....

So...you're back. Many of us are really looking forward to a screw driver resto. Seems impossible that a screw driver restoration is in the works, but all we can do is ask, right?

handtoolrescue

I am getting the same on some devices...I am confused. I'll try an sort it out.

Nice I finished up my 1938 WoodWizard Lathe restoration so this seems like a cool one to find and restore thanks for showing it...m

I poked at it a bit and it seems the 720p version is broken but the 360p version is fine, so whether it plays or not depends on which resolution is autoselected depending on window size/layout. Fun!

Torsten Bolten

It‘s working on my iPad when played via patreon page (not the app).

Torsten Bolten

P.S. Nice Vidjayo like always. Keep it up!

Sincerely enjoy your videos. I think that narration would be instructive. Would you occasionally divulge the source of your information on the items you are rescuing, as well as the story behind how you found it. Also some of the “juices” you use in freeing up those items that are stuck. One last thing...how’s the new shop working out for you??Tour in the future?? Good video, and thanks. I’ll be buying a wrench soon. Sarge

Peter Laws

Yep, still broken at 1500 CST.

handtoolrescue

The only physical copies are on laser disc, so shipping is going to hurt.

handtoolrescue

I will give you all the details in the narrated versions! Shop tour is coming soon.

Peter Laws

Yep - just watched. Thanks!

Peter Laws

I like the silent. I appreciate the captions that explain the non-obvious stuff ... but I like the no-narration-just-tool-sounds.

handtoolrescue

Me too. The narrated is just the "director's commentary" version.

Kvnmnn

I love to see these little wrenches in action! I hope i can buy one, if its for sale!

Dan Johnston

A man from Saskatchewan makes tool restoration videos. We catch glimpses of him from time to time. He is burly, bearded, handsome in a handy way, but entirely silent. He becomes Internet Famous. In early 2019 he narrates a video. His voice is like music. His female audience quadruples within an hour. A doctor in California conducts a study which finds the voice of Hand Tool Rescue causes spontaneous ovulation in 83% of female listeners. CNN picks up the story. He becomes a sensation. He receives a phone call from PornHub. They offer to sponsor his move to their studios where they will make certain introductions, show him the ropes. By 2024, he is renown. He runs for President of the United States of America on the Libertarian ticket. He receives 68% of the popular vote (97% of females). He becomes President Chuck Releaser.

Peter Laws

Oh. Dude. I just watched the narrated version. The narration added so much to the video. I sit corrected. I still prefer the "silent" versions ... but ... Does YT support an alternate audio track? Then you could satisfy those 83% of female listeners *and* the ones that enjoy the silent version?

handtoolrescue

Thanks! I really wish they did, it would be much nicer if I could add a separate audio track.
