Narrated: Hovering Lawn Mower [Restoration]

Planky

I remember having an electric hover mower when I was younger. Havent seen one in years

Mike Bird

I live one town over from the town that Toro is headquartered. I'll have to see if they have them in their museum!

Clifton Ballad

As much as I want a gas one now that I know they exist, I want an electric one Even More now that I know They exist....

Planky

Flymo make electric ones as well! Look up the Flymo Turbo Life 350.

Clifton Ballad

So im just a welder. I end up working on cars and smaller motors and parts attached to them because they are made of metal and existence tends to break them, But Im not a mechanic in any shape fashion or form. But after watching you do this and things like it I feel like in a post apocalyptic world, I would be able to * maybe * make some kinda gas motor work again....

handtoolrescue

The basics are easy, but I still don't really know what I am doing.

Clifton Ballad

I have little hands on experience with the basics, mostly self learned, but I have much mechanical and metalworking experience. Watching it done "live" helps me sort out how to attempt to turn a broken thing into a more broken thing with fewer parts...

Clifton, I've been a dad-homeowner/renter for about 40 years. I've had a pile of 2-stroke and a few 4-stroke mowers, mulchers, rototillers, weed whackers, blowers, chainsaws, and rented about everything but crane. And I still feel like a rock star when I get any of these to work after some have sat for longer than a year. So you're doing great!

Marc McKenzie

What an unexpected and fun restoration piece! I remember seeing adverts for these in magazines during the 70s. Every generation has its experimental/fringe products. Like I had a Ryobi (I think that was the brand) rechargeable mower almost 30 years ago. It worked great if your lawn got mowed every 2-3 days ALWAYS, and could be done in under 12 minutes. Ha! I've had the Toro 2-cycle mower that replaced it running in perfect order for over 25 years, going strong. I'm waiting for the Roomba mower equivalent now....

Marco

Awesome Job! Would love to see more gardening tools, since gardening kinda is my passion. For us here in good ol' Germany, a perfect lawn is very very essential when it comes to showing your neighbors what a good dad you are. You could have easily pushed the dad level to the max by wearing sandals instead of that sneaker. Yet leaving those white socks on. That's how we mow in Germany 🤣

Haven't watched this one but watched the silent version. At first I thought "I remember those" ... but maybe I don't? Toro doesn't sell them, at least under the Flymo brand and who knew they were a UK thing? Brand is owned by Husqvarna now but Flymo was on it's own for a long time. 🌈⭐The More You Know ...🌈⭐

Peter Laws

Harvest Gold, man, Harvest Freakin' Gold. Watching the silent one first, I didn't realize that the body was FRP. Crazy. Looks like Toro sells a "HoverPro" 55 years later and not just importing Flymos from the UK.

First, I'm a total fan. These videos have started me on a path to tinkerville. It's been great. One comment on the "Points" I was a maintenance electrician for 30 years and I know that if you file points to clean them they are burned up in a year or two. The best way I know is to use emery cloth to clean them, and then recoat with silver plating powder. Great video!

That paint remover spray you are using, what brand is it ? It seemes to work pretty fast !
