So has anyone made any good progress on their handle scales? I've never done anything like this before. I've made about 4 attempts so far, each one getting better and better. The latest attempt was pretty good but I'm still not happy with it so I've ordered more wood.

Sure, thanks! What do you use to do the initial shaping to the outline? I just ordered a little belt sander which came today. Before I was cutting close to the line with a band saw and then using a plane and rasp to get all the way there. Which works-ish but it's definitely something that takes some practice to get perfect.

Personally, I would roughly shape it with the bandsaw, then get close to the line with a belt sander that has a table that is 90 degrees to the sanding belt.
