Yaay! Can't wait. I'm from Norway, so if there is anything you're confused about, I can probably help explain.

Yassssss thank you Mare!

Yay, my time has arrived lol 🥹✨ (Post-Ep: Your guess was correct that it's days of the week appearing on screen. The show was released in a very social format. NRK dropped clips at random, the days of the week and times that are shown, and one week's worth of clips = 1 episode. The characters also had social media accounts that were active and would be posting things in line with what was occurring with the clips being dropped which made it really immersive. NRK even posted texts between characters to further contribute to the immersion. None of that social aspect is necessary to enjoy the show but it does clarify a few things)

INFO: In Norway, "russ" are graduating high school students, and "russefeiring" is a month-long celebration preceding final exams. Many groups of russ pool money to purchase and customize buses (known as "russebusser" or "russ buses") or vans ("russebiler") for partying and transportation during this period. These vehicles are often elaborately decorated, equipped with sound systems, and become central to the festivities. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russefeiring

As a fellow American viewer, I was very confused as to what I was watching the first time I saw ep 1 of Skam 😂it’s really not like anything else I’ve seen before or after and that is why I love it so much. This is the original, or Skam Norway, and they made versions from a bunch of other countries too. Skam France I think is a popular one but the Norway OG is my favorite from what I’ve seen. There’s a lot more to know about this series but I don’t want to spoil anything and am excited to watch you go on the journey! 😜

Sandra

OG skam is the best one for sure

Hi! I'm from Norway and a huge fan of Skam, so it's amazing to see you reacting to it! Just thought I'd share a few spoiler-free facts that might give you a bit more context as you dive into the show: Skam (Shame) originally aired between 2015 and 2017, and follows a group of students at a high school in Oslo. In the Norwegian high school, there are three grades. First year (age 16/17), second year (age 17/18) and third year (age 18/19). One of the coolest things about the show was how it was released: clips were dropped in real time. So if something happened in the show on a Tuesday at 13:30 (1:30 PM), it would actually be uploaded online at 13:30 (1:30 PM) that same Tuesday. This made it feel incredibly immersive for the viewers. You'll hear references to something called “russetid” or “russefeiring” a lot. It’s a big Norwegian tradition where high school seniors form groups and celebrate the end of school with a month-long party leading up to Norway's national day May 17th. Imagine prom, senior week, and spring break, but on steroids – with party buses, matching overalls, and tons of wild challenges. It’s a big part of Norwegian youth culture and can seem crazy from the outside, but for many teens here, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience. In recent years, it’s come under a lot of scrutiny from Norwegian authorities, since it’s become an increasingly intense party season that happens right in the middle of final exams. There's an ongoing debate here about how it affects students’ well-being and focus. Most of the cast were unknown actors, and the creators went to great lengths to make the series feel authentic – including how the characters dress, talk, and use social media. Skam became a cultural phenomenon here in Norway, and quickly became a huge hit around in Europe. The show has 8 remakes in different countries. As a Norwegian, I noticed that the subtitles were not the best. Please let me know if you want a link to better ones. Excited to follow your journey with Skam!!

Hey that guy Chris was in Ragnarök. Love that series.

Here’s a translation of the weekdays. It’s not super important, but can be helpful when they say stuff like “let’s go do xyz on Friday” so you’ll know how many days are left until then. mandag - Monday tirsdag - Tuesday onsdag - Wednesday torsdag - Thursday fredag - Friday lørdag - Saturday søndag - Sunday

clémence

So excited you're reacting to Skam!

Alycia Ortiz

I’m so excited you’re watching this show but I’m gonna be horribly impatient thinking about how good season 3 is
