Yep that was a character development ep which wasn’t your jam lol I do remember watching this one and being pretty confused like you as to just kinda like why? We just took a big detour plot wise this whole ep to end up back to where we already were. But in ep 1 we really only spent time with our main guy understanding the circumstances that landed him here and now we’ve gotten a peek into a bunch more players. The takeaway for this one was basically WE OUT HERE STRUGGLIN

I think it was a clever way of giving us all of the backstories in one episode, but there was unfortunately a trade off which is the episode being kinda dull compared to the first one. The problem is if they give us individual back stories one episode at a time, we can't really root for, or hate specific characters the same so I do get why they did it this way. The good thing is, you got that over with and we can get back to more episodes like the first one.

I guess they just wanted to show background stories of the main characters, but next episodes will be better.

I think we all felt like that watching this episode. But it does put into perspective that, even now that they know what they risk by going back to the game, they’re all still desperate enough to go back there.

I think this episode is one you only really appreciate after finishing the whole of the season, on first watching it does feel like a massive down turn in pace and action compared with the shock value that episode 1 ended with.

i feel like this show does subversion really well. in the first episode, it’s so fucking shocking that these games are being played to the death. and then this episode, the one guy who has the least to lose, had the most fun in that first game- he’s the deciding vote to stop the games. i’m with you, i was shocked that this episode took the turn it did but i appreciate it. because it shows us how fucked all these peoples lives are, that basically playing games with a 50/50 chance at death isn’t daunting to them. the real hell was outside. while the pacing change is something i understand being thrown by, i think this episode does a lot for setting up this world the characters are living in, how these people can get away with these games, and what’s at stake for all the characters we followed if they don’t get this money

I think some of it was necessary to build the characters and their motivation and all, and it's interesting. But it also makes it a very slow episode and tbh I was just waiting for them to go back. So I feel your reaction to it is totally on point. I think the tittle should be longer, like "Hell when are we going back to the fucking games ?". See you on the next one !
