There is a thing in France (and other countries mostly in Europe or Latin America) called "arm of honour" which is a rude gesture equivalent to giving the middle finger, but I don't think that's a thing in the US, and that's my only clue (and probably not the right one) about what Ross was doing with his elbows tbh.
