I'm so excited for season 2 coming up. I heard it is taking place on July 4th so should be very interesting! *they have to disclose students and that's how doctors learn. No different than Grey's. However, once a patient expresses discomfort and a request for change, the student doctor wouldn't be allowed to continue and Whitaker would definitely have been switched out as soon as blood touched his face due to infectious protocol. It's one of the very few non realistic things in the show.

I think forcing someone to give birth is wrong in all circumstances; even, or maybe especially, minors.

Christies situation is heartbreaking and I love that they added that case. I understand that this is a complicated issue in the US, but it shouldn't be. I believe it's the first amendment that states that there should be a seperation of church and law and that no law should ever favor or be because of one religion. And every argument of "pro life" is always religious, so it's moot! The only "issue" I see in this case is that she is a minor. But it is her body, and pregnancy and motherhood has its risks and can take a toll on the body and mind, plus the issue with the probable lack of her education and social life if she goes through with the pregnancy - she was old enough to get pregnant, so she is old enough to decide which one of the 2 consequenses she wants, imo I like how it is handled here in Germany: The moment you can be made responsible for criminal activities (14 years old), you also have the full right to your body. So the moment a minor gets pregnant and wants to abort, they can do so and doctor-patient confidentiality prohibits the doctor to tell the parents. If the doctor thinks that the patient cannot comprehend the whole situation (eg does not have the mental capacity) he can decline and inform a social worker of the situation, who then assesses the situation and then several possibilities can happen. BUT by law no one can be forced to carry out or abort a pregnancy they do not want! Also only the abortion itself has to be paid for, everything else (like consultations and aftercare) is covered. And if the patient doesn't have the funds because no or low income, it will be covered by the state - same if the abortion is medically needed or the pregnancy happened due to SA. And I think that should be the case everywhere! Germany has loads of issues, but this is a case we handle quite well, in my opinion.

Yeah, this is one of the few thing in this show I take issue with. For one, the moment bodily fluids of a patient is sprayed towards someones face (or body parts where there is a wound or something the like) or something sharp like a scalpel lands in your foot, the patient needs to get tested for possible infectious desease and the inflicted person would get preemptive care. Also, I don't know the laws in the US but I presume they are quite similar. In Germany the patient has to be informed and give their consent if a student doctor does a procedure, and an actual doctor has to supervise the whole time. And with the next part I'm 90% sure it's the same, the moment a patient says they do not want something done by a specific person (no matter their qualifications or titles) the patient right wins over!

All true for the U.S. as well.

Those waiting times are everyday in the UK🤣🤣🤣 thank god for the NHS but boy you’ll be in the emergency room a full 13 hours

I think (at least in the state I'm in) that at 14 years old you get full control of your sexual health, which I believe includes abortion without parental consent. Personally, I feel that allows teens to get healthcare in multiple situations where it is really important, and am all for it. Also, another way this show is so good aside from the medical stuff (although I found the respiratory techs this episode, which makes me happy!) is that they release one episode a week like old school television, and the second season is coming out in a week, which is a crazy short turnaround between seasons. Compared to so many other shows taking 2+ years for an 8 episode season...

It's not as bad in Germany. Our medical system havs its issues, but it's quite good comparably and there are not a lot of reasons to go to the ER (mostly just accidents or times when other doctors are closed), so the waiting rooms tends not to get as crowded. I think the most I ever waited was something like 6 hours, but that night we heard that someone came in who cut his leg with a chainsaw and I think we can all agree that that takes priority! My thinking is: if they make you wait, you're okay - it sucks, but you're fine. The moment they make you skip the line or take you in immediately, you should get worried!

I'm Norwegian so here parents have no say in whether their children get an abortion or not. It's completely up to the child no matter the age. BUT if the child is under 16, the doctor has to inform the legal guardians of the situation. So Christie's mom wouldn't be allowed to come in the room to try and talk her out if it. I'm 100% pro choice so I'm glad our laws are like that.

My stepdaughter had an abortion at 17. I was with her and so was her mom. It was her choice, although we both agreed it was the right one at the time. Now, she is almost 30 and has two beautiful boys. I don't believe any female (regardless of age) should ever be forced to carry a child if she doesn't want to. And I was born in 1970 because my 20 year old, single mom couldn't get an abortion (they were illegal at that time). She gave me up for adoption at birth. So, there are multiple choices, but I believe it should always be the pregnant person's choice and no one else. I have amazing parents and I have a relationship with my birth mom, who I met when I was 31. I don't know what my birth mom would have done if abortion was legal in 1970, but I would still support that only she should be allowed to decide.

I was waiting in the emergency room for 8 hours with my 6 month old son with pneumonia 🙃

It isn’t all about how worse off you are unfortunately. It’s how understaffed they are & the resources stretched so thin

Caregivers fatigue is a real thing and a lot of times (especially as women) we're forced into being a caregiver expected to take on everything at once it begins to consume you're entire life to the point you can't sleep or shower because you're in caretaker mode 24/7 and no one truly realizes how exhausting it is unless they've been through it themselves. I definitely sympathized with Ginger's daughter.
