Awesome reaction! It's so fun to see how you love them and their chemistry! So I went and watched the whole show after watching first ep with you last week and I am absolutely sure you are going to love every upcoming episode. They get better and better each time. Ilya was the absolute sweetest asking Shane again and again if everything was ok when they were doing the deed: asking for consent is attractive. The scene in the bathroom at the awards was so so good I think. Like sure they were very attracted to each other before but in my opinion it's then that we see how absolutely in it Shane is and unable to resist Ilya at all. Ilya is maybe a bit more of a complex character but I love his as well. Super excited for the next episodes!

Definitely some of the best chemistry I've seen on screen in a while. I can see what you mean with how they look at each other. It's clear they care about each other a lot, but both their situations at this point are telling them not to fall for each other (with Ilya being Russian and the risks that come with that and his family life being a stress, and Shane being so afraid of being caught and it ruining hockey for him), but poor Shane is really struggling at the end. But I love them both, and just want to hug them. Yes, the booty on Ilya is something else for sure. Look forward to the rest of your reactions. It just keeps getting better episode by episode imo. Seems most people agree in comments.

There is an interesting dynamic regarding the dominant/submissive sexual relationship between the two. While some might think Shane is being used, manipulated or coerced, in reality, Shane’s everyday life is so controlled that he genuinely enjoys the ability to cede control in the bedroom with Ilya. And vice versa because Ilya's life is so out of control, Shane giving up that control helps Ilya. It is a mutually beneficial relationship. You see this after Shane asks, "Are you going to f*** me?" and Ilya’s replies "We will see," the smirk on Shane's face shows he is enjoying every minute. In the past, we've seen Shane get aggressive with Ilya and put him in his place, so if Shane is going along with something now, it is because he is enjoying himself, not because he is being coerced. One thing we learned very quickly about Ilya, especially in these first two episodes, is that he places extreme value on consent and would never push Shane to do something he didn't want to do. Ilya may be dominant, but he's not forceful.

I don't think Ilya was trying to be mean to Shane during the figure skating scene. Ilya's behavior was a protective measure dictated by the immediate dangers of that environment. The tragedy of that scene lies in the breakdown of mutual respect for boundaries: earlier, in Episode 1, Ilya immediately honored Shane's "not now" during the shower scene, but during the figure skating scene Shane failed to reciprocate that same grace when Ilya strongly vocalized his own need for space by saying " not now" Shane, understandably, has difficulty with subtext and timing—such as pushing a conversation during the figure skating scene after explicitly being told how dangerous it is in Russia, bringing up a sensitive subject like Russia immediately after sex as he did in the Vegas penthouse scene, and not comprehending (especially with the look on Ilya's face) that going home to Russia would be a negative experience for Ilya during the Vegas balcony scene of episode 1. These examples highlight his struggle to grasp nonverbal communication and read the emotional "temperature" of a room. I know that the author has stated that Shane is on the spectrum, which explains why, through no fault of his own, he has difficulty reading subtext and fully assessing social situations. I believe that his naivety also stems from his personal privilege. He has loving and supportive parents and lacks an understanding of what life in Russia is truly like because of his comfortable upbringing in the Canada.

Very late to your reaction but wanted to mention one of my favorite things about Ilya is the fact the fandom calls him consent king for aa reason. Like as soon as Shane said "Not here" Ilya stopped, and didn't even try to guilt Shane, or pressure Shane, into doing more.
