I definitely had a wtf moment for the season 2 opener lol. I LOVED season 1 for the decade transitions, colorful characters, opener/closer monologues, and twisty turns. I too missed the charm you spoke of.

Totally agree that they should have kept the different decades and the charm from season 1, but we`ll see how things unfold. Lana definately makes up for some of it tho lol

I also was disappointed during the first episode when I saw we were remaining in one decade. I agree, switching btw 3 decades is what set this show apart. Probably wouldn’t have finished the first episode if Lana Parrilla (Regina) wasn’t in it. Glad I stuck with it tho, it was a slow start but the last few minutes roped me in too!

I read a little about season 2 after you finished season 1. I knew it wasn't going to be as good, but I'll give it a shot. We'll, now that I have watched it, it definitely doesn't live up to the first one! But they did enough ar the end for me to watch the next one. BTW, Alma's daughter was in Switched at Birth.

You're not alone. I felt the same about that first episode for season 2. Loved your reaction. See you on the next one !

Yea.... This episode feels sooooo long... But also, unfair to you to have people tell you what to expect for this season instead of creating your own opinion... I do hope you do give it a chance, but if not, that's okay too. I too miss the set up from season 1.

Me 18 min in: better than last season whereeeee? I hate it. lol although the main character has the same like feel and presence as the main girl from season one. Will update if it’s better 😂

Oof, I see the comments mirror my gut reaction when I gave it a whopping 5-10 minutes years ago. I think I'll wait for episode 2 and watch them back to back. Shows are generally a bit easier to digest when you have "company."

45 min in: okayyyy what do we have here? I’m into seeing how this is gonna play out.

Watching along with you for the first time and it was hard to keep up my interest until those last few minutes. I like how the guy who was married to Lucy Liu in season 1 is the narrator this season.

symone

That is Alexandra Daddario's brother Matthew Daddario. Crazy how they got each sibling for different seasons playing the third person in a married couple. And yes, he was in Shadowhunters he played Alec.

Hmm. Yeah wow- that was quite a difference from the first ep of season 1 which did feel very unique. This however… I kept noticing how the music (which still is great) was creating this mood of intrigue that wasn’t really there for me either. Like…oo! She wants a new dress! Now she’s sewing a dress! 😱 Lol I mean it did lead to her finding that trinket and that led to the “payoff” at the end finding out about the husband…so yeah we’ll see I guess!

I felt exactly the same way when I watched it. I laughed so hard when you checked if it was the right show because I also did.

Throughout season 1 I kept asking myself how was it possible they only made two seasons? Now I know. I ended up giving more of a shit in the bathroom than at any point in this episode. Even when something finally happened, it betrayed the whole concept - and name - of the show. I wouldn't even mind just one time period if it was captivating. But there is nothing tying the seasons together, nothing to remind us what show it is, and so far no reason to even care about anyone. I hope the rest of the season picks up or this will be one long grind. And this is why phrasing matters. There is a huge difference between saying a season is better aka stating something as fact vs saying they prefer a season more. Then it's just opinion and expectations aren't subverted.
