I was 16 when this was released and it was considered the greatest recruitment ad ever. They actually had military pilots flying the planes and they filmed on an aircraft carrier. I grew up in a Navy town and these guys were pretty true to the pilots that my dad worked with. Also, the reason they don't linger on Goose's death is the military mindset. In a battle (like at the end of the movie), you can't stop to cry or worry or anything. So, they expect pilots (and everyone else) to just keep doing their job, because lives depend on them. If you want to see Kelly McGillis (Charlie) in something else.... check out the film "Witness" from 1985.

Yeah, this movie is almost as old as me lol. Been awhile since I've watched it, so I forgot that Goose's death was so late in the movie. His death definitely could've had more weight to it, but, within a short movie, they did a good job with it. I definitely enjoyed Viper's relationship with Maverick, too. He gave Mav the closure he needed with his father, while believing in him when others didn't, including Mav himself. This is a fun movie, and I'm glad you enjoyed it! Not sure if Top Gun 2 has been sponsored yet, but I might have to sponsor it if hasn't, yet 😉
