Death Lego

Hilarious. In the beginning, while you were busy checking dates to examine the validity of the proposed projection of the future, from the point in history they are at. They were doing a pretty adequate job explaining the 10 year influences that a far more advanced technological society had had on earth. It's the founding premise and standing orders of the show and Stargate Command. To seek advance knowledge and technology for advancement in a shorter time frame than would be possible with natural progression. Mostly for the advantages this can being for defence against alien threats. But for cultural comparisons too, from other societies among the stars. This wasn't like a Back to the Future's miscalculation of the 2015's future. Hindsight viewing has its downsides some times, when we insist on seeing 'what they got wrong.' Those two situations aren't in any way the same here. A key point is to make the characters identifiable and relatable. This is one aspect and purpose of the show is to have fanciful ideas of what the future technologies could be, but in a 20-21st century setting. There are two other broad types of science fiction shows. 1. The hopeful and aspirational glimpses of the future, of an advanced and occasional smug human race. Congratulating itself on how it survived and came out the other side of near societal annihilation. Then taking those ideas among the stars. 2. The bleak and often depressing futility of the human existence displayed for all it's horrid 'unavoidable realism'. The best and worst traits of humanity in a futuristic setting. These other two types rely far more extensive world building in a projected future for the human race, or those cultures that share a convenient production based likeness. Also, it would probably take more than 8-10 years to notice the gradual fall in birth rate on a local level. Especially when they highlighted the question of if the media being suppressed for a wider world view. They didn't vanish the existing children. Less kids not no kids. In this episode, elements those two comparisons I just made seemed to cross paths a little.
