Death Lego

I'm sure you have your deep seated reasons for not wanting to forgive Nate as a character. I'm not really sure what they are. I'm not sure I care all the much either. If you understand within yourself and then choose to articulate why, then great. We can but only guess at what makes Nate so comparatively different in this the show's repeated trend. To be this openly and viscerally intransigent for one redemption arch out of a number that this show has been centred round. It would be interesting to hear.

Dr Ozzy

Funny timing on this episode coming out. News just broke yesterday that Manchester City have been found guilting of financial cheating and paying people off the books for the last 15 years and are about to get kicked out of the Premier League haha. Also if you didn't recognize the women at Rebecca's door it was Bex, the woman he had a baby with, and Ms. Cakes his old assistant he was fooling around with. Also Also if you didn't catch it, that was Jamie's dad in rehab watching him play.

Travis Manning

So you DONT care or it would be interesting to hear? 🥴🤔

Death Lego

A fair comment. Although you may have misunderstood. I don't care what your deep seated reasons are, they are yours. What could he interesting to hear is what specifically makes Nate different within the shows purposeful narrative for granting forgiveness. His acts of bullying and betrayal aren't too dissimilar to Jamie and Rebecca.

Lina D

So.... You just used a bunch of big words you don't seem to understand and bad sentence structure to make a point/ask a question that I'm also not entirely sure you understand. This is a channel where Travis gives his honest reaction to the show, it's not a channel where he explains his deep seated reasoning for his reactions as if you're his therapist. Hope this helps ❤️❤️

Death Lego

Yes it does help me.. Sorry for my bad sentence structure. My learning difficulties occasionally cause bad communication skills with my writing. You have put me right. Don't ask questions here, this isn't a channel for that. I think I've understood you.

Travis Manning

I misunderstood or you didn’t do a good job conveying your message ? Comparing Jamie and Rebecca and the way they have ACTUALLY CHANGED - from what I’ve seen - to Nate - is crazy. Nate had tons do opportunities to try to right his wrongs. He hasn’t. He’s a bitch. I don’t care if you disagree. And that’s genuine. I legit don’t care. I also don’t care for - what I perceive as - your condescending tone. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Lina D

Nobody said don't ask questions. That didn't happen. Objectively. But okay then.

Death Lego

My apologies for how you have precieved my tone as condescending. I appreciate that is how someone like me comes across on many occasions. My placement on the spectrum has its challenges and I don't often communicate well enough. I think understand I was rude.

The issue I have with Nate's "redemption" is that it doesnt feel earned. We haven't seen that big change in him, other than the fact that he got away from Rupert, but I have an issue with the way that it's been presented as Rupert was the one who corrupted him or whatever, but he was a dick before Rupert too.

Shin

Beautiful episode. Loved your reaction. See you on the next one.

Leoni

I am right there with you. This show taught me I am not a forgiver. Fuck Nate. Give everything good Nate gets to Jamie.

Jodycnd

Exactly. In the restaurant scene with the manager, he still tries to insist that he said “wunderkind” instead of Wonder Kid. And then makes a point to say he has a girlfriend and point out what she looks like. So those petty things are still hugely important to his sense of self. I have watched the series several times and have never been able to connect with his arc.

Siw Smith

I agree that Nate's redemption wasn't earned, but if you actually look back on it, Jamie's wasn't either. He basically became a completely different person overnight.

Travis Manning

I have seen zero redeeming qualities from Nate and tons in Jamie. I’m supposed to care about Nate because he got a girlfriend and quit his job and became a waiter ? 🤨

Travis Manning

Nate was given ample opportunities to right his wrongs and at least own up to them - to at least SAY SOMETHING - and he hasn’t .

jjw

(this is in reply to Siw) I disagree with this completely. Jamie’s was so earned. We saw Ted working with him, slowly getting through to him before he was sent back to Man City by Rebecca. Then he had his fall and slowly gained redemption over many episodes.

Jodycnd

Back in the first season when Rebecca’s mother came to visit her, Ted remarked that he loved meetings people’s mothers to see how they had become so messed up. Then eventually we meet his mom and see a lot of Ted-isms. But now Ted is more aware of how glossing over everything bad is detrimental to mental health. I don’t think he would have noticed that before working with Dr Sharon. That was something that stuck out when I rewatched the series. This series feels so well thought out with the themes introduced in the beginning and worked through over the course of the show. Feels very much like Schitt’s Creek in that way.

Erin

This is my issue with it too. I don’t really see any growth, even him quitting his job seemed to be more about his romantic relationship than him realizing he had done something wrong. And he’s shown no gratitude about the opportunity he was given to begin with.

Siw Smith

Jamie was given a second chance by Ted and allowed back on the team. Literally the next episode he was a completely different person and a wonderful teammate (apologizing to his team and even blacking out the Dubai Air logo on his jersey). Nothing about that was gradual. Im not asking anyone to care about Nate, because I agree that his redemption isn’t earned. I just also think Jamie’s change was too quick.

jjw

The difference for me is that Jamie’s redemption was started back before he was sent back to man city in season 1. then we got the growth of him at the end of s1 with him taking Ted’s advice when he was against them and then we had a big fall from him before he came back to Richmond. Nate just got a girlfriend and quit his job
