In case you were wondering about gaining future settlers from the Friends in Far Away Places quest, here's a bit of a preview of the settlement system, a lightweight city builder mechanic where rescued humans can go to settle with you as their founder.

The player will actively place out the roads, balance resource production, and invest in specialized buildings to draw in visitors on an isometric map. The settlement simulation updates once a day at sunset in the background, wherever the player party is in the world. Your settlement's population will grow in the background, but quests and random events will help you recruit settlers faster.

Your settlement will be accessible on one of the world maps where you choose to settle. Your party will be able to visit the town square and be able to go to various shops and services, similar to Aledock Town, Whitetail watch, and Fort Veronica. Unique buildings in your settlement will allow the player access to recruitment pools. For example, building an arboretum could attract fawns to your settlement, a battle arena to attract dragons, brothels to attract flirtatious fox wildpeople, etc. Build temples for healing and soothing services. Foraging huts and alchemist shops can help you acquire hard-to-find alchemy resources and transformation potions.

This mechanic is still fairly new in development. It will not be part of the next public V0.19.00 release, but the foundation is being laid now, and we wanted to share a sneak peak before shifting focus onto the upcoming One Hell of a Hangover quest. The art seen in the screenshots will be updated by one of our go-to artists.

Exciting! I'm embarrassingly fond of such play modes.

about recruitment areas, will it be one big place for recruiting followers or multiple spots, if yes to multiple spots will we need to finish quests or complete certain objectives like defeating a certain number of goblins to unlock a goblin recruitment area

Unsure, but it's possible certain buildings will be locked behind completed quests. I doubt there will be anything arbitrary like defeating goblins, though.

so hypothetically speaking if we wanted an elf absorptionists recruitment area for example we would need to finish bosom buddies?
