The false shadow weaver that you saw was the real shadow weaver, it was a flashback of her first journeying to and joining the horde (as far as I remember, I could be wrong though)

steevethefish27

Lmao I was cleaning my screen when you accidentally spit on it and it seemed like you were helping me clean 😭

Jamie Nailer

Love the reaction. I don't know if you realized it but Micah is King Micah aka Glimmer's dad.

Vee (he/him)

That was actually Shadow Weaver in that one scene, it was still part of the flashback

Phoenix_mercury

1:13:15 the way his words can also be taken as an allegory for various queer coming outs👀

To expand upon your point about bow’s dads, I also find it pretty interesting that most representation for gay men in cartoons primarily targeted towards children comes in the form of a secondary main character’s parents (eg. willow from TOH and her dads) rather than an actual main character/protagonist. I understand that having gay men as background characters might be more palatable for parents, still kinda sucks though

Liz

so the "false shadow weaver" you were asking about was actually the real shadow weaver. that was one of the flashbacks; it shows her joining the Horde, before she had her signature mask. as for Micah, he was mentioned (and shown in flashbacks?) a few times in S1, but I can't remember if he was named in those mentions? His character design in that episode we just saw may remind you of one of our main chars... so excited for you to continue this she-ra journey!! lots of fun twists and turns upcoming!

………… oh the YouTube comments are going to tear me apart

King'sBard

Pike, Mace, Scythe, Buckler(Buck for short), Halberd(Hal), Glaive, plenty of cool weapon names.

This isn’t a dig at you, just a general observation of the fandom. So many people focus exclusively on Scorpia’s side of things, saying she’s adorable and how Catra should be nicer to her. Both true, but Scorpia constantly crosses Catra’s boundaries. She deserves her personal space and to not have her boundaries violated. The burrito thing is especially bad, as someone who hates feeling trapped. I find it interesting the so few people talk about that part of their dynamic.

Mortius

Hmmm, honestly that’s a great point!

Season 2 the calm before the storm

Dinker

He was one of the first people to fall to the Horde... because Shadow Weaver knew how easily he could defeat them if he wasn't removed from the war, she couldn't allow something like that to stand in her way.

Dinker

You know how Shadow Weaver was marking off the days in her cell based on when she was fed her daily meal? She knew how many days there were until the alignment before she was taken prisoner. She knew she could cast the escape spell during the alignment so she needed to keep track of when it would be.

Dinker

Okay, finished the second episode! Great episode about gay acceptance that they flipped by having the people doing the acceptance being gay dads. Also, things that have come up; with them being in the empty dimension of Despondose no one knows what stars are. Literally the only people that have mentioned them are Lance, George, Bow with prompting, Madame Razz (who remembers them) and, without prompting or education... Adora. That's interesting. Also I always viewed Hordak's last chat with Catra as a classic bully move. No matter what she said, he was going to do what he did, hurt her. If she admitted it, he would have immediately punished her. If she did what she did, he would have implied that she could have avoided the punishment and then done it anyway. Because the most important thing for a bully is taking away your sense of safety and making you worried about how you can make them not hurt you when speaking to them.

Doriima

Yes. Yes they are. But hopefully your editor will get in first!

Doriima

Aw, I was so hoping this realisation would be on camera.

The music in this show, written and performed by Sunna Wehrmeijer, is phenomenal, as you're realising. There are a number of score-related videos as well as an official soundtrack, but note that you should NOT watch or listen to them until you're done with the show, since they all came out around or after the release of season five, so they definitely contain spoilers. I'm mentioning this list now since you're commenting on the quality of the music and sound design, but maybe save it for later. It's safe to read the rest of this message, though... Sunna herself made a video answering some questions about the music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5wQJEckQ8E Five by Five Takes has a lot of great analyses of the show, including this one about the score: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-0uui-kLKs There is an official score, including a cover of the theme song by AJ: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLnoIi4YKKKd-7c_HdEKEwesp1zBvaAnsx And there is an expanded playlist that includes lots of the music _not_ on the official score, extracted from the show itself (so there's muffled dialogue and other audio in it from time to time): https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLhNU-GBrri9s2AI6NFs_PcqK7nbEvm0sL

Meanwhile, in sponsorship news, I can't believe you didn't land on the "hones-TEA" pun...

Phoenix_mercury

🤦 don't tell a reactor what's gonna happen in a show they're reacting to! (Any wonder reactor's stop reading comments)

D. Sparrow

I mean I get the sentiment but I feel like that's vauge enough it's not like I gave details basically I'm just saying they're gonna have more interactions. Two characters just talking to each other is sometimes enough to get people shipping

Sarah Neely

Oh I neeeeesded a Mortius reaction today so badly. When life is garbage, you bring a comforting light to the day ❤️

Sarah Neely

Re: Catras claws lining up with her markings. I love that point you made. To me it's mimicking that this question is IS inflicting pain on herself. Or maybe that this question is touching on the scars of self-hatred that Shadow Weaver's abuse has given her. A fascinating callout.

Ashley Evers

And they didn't know for sure that the characters would get to interact a lot more. "We get a lot more about that relationship" is definitely a spoiler, no matter how that relationship plays out. I for one was really looking forward to getting to watch him realize we were getting more of their interactions.

L Frances

No, wait, we can salvage this! You just have to commit to the False Shadow Weaver theory through the entirety of the show and consistently speculate on her identity and wearabouts!

Lindsey

I’d like to imagine that Bow’s dads named him Bow as in Bowtie

Anna Lyons

I also got confused and had to rewatch to realise it was a flashback! So it's not just you :)

Lindsey

1:13:56 Bow said that exact line in Shadows Of Mystacor. And he says he’s nothing like his family!

Carsten Tassilo Gräbe

Grumble, I was really hoping no one would mention it, so I could see his reaction live when he notices it.

Carsten Tassilo Gräbe

57:10 [No spoilers] Of course, one of the adopted sons is named Blade. He's the family's white sheep. He used to be called Ritter before he lost s eye in battle. Later as a mercenary, he served Hordak's apprentice, who embodied the evil of a race of giants. Now magically enhanced, he is his enforcer. With his two swords, he was quite successful even against Adora's twin brother. Only through him could Hordak's student secure "The Scepter of Infinite Power". ;-) Those who know, know. But it has nothing to do with this series. ;-)

L Frances

I love you bringing up Star Wars-y elements, cause as this show was coming out, I felt like it was doing successfully what the SW sequel trilogy failed to do, in my opinion. No shame to folks who enjoyed those. I just felt it especially hard to care about those films once this show came out and ran circles around them.

Phoenix_mercury

Yeah, are the stripes just patterns or are they actually scars because of her claws(we see her grabbing her arms not infrequently)🤷

Ferret

Light Spinner is my favorite episode of season 2 because it establishes just how interesting of a character Shadow Weaver actually is. It would have been easy, *so* easy to simply say that as someone born without power, she envies those who were, and wants to take it from them. It would've been very easy to have her only interested in Micah and Adora so she could either take their power from them, or use their power for her own ends. But that's not the case. Even after Micah (in her mind) screws up and gets her cursed, she still spares him after a show of affection. Even after Adora defected, Shadow Weaver's goal was never to gain the power of She-Ra for herself/the Horde or to neutralize it, it was always getting Adora herself back. Which isn't to say she's some good mother/teacher, because it's still part of her narcissism. She wants them to achieve their full potential so that she can be the one to have made them great. It's still rooted in toxic self-interest. She still craves power for herself. But her relationship with Adora and Micah is still so much more interesting than most characters in a similar narrative position.

If you watch more than season 3, don't skip the intro! I wanna mention it again because you skipped it here but I think starting in Season 4 they change the animation in the intro when there are significant character and plot developments.

Julio Castillo

"False Shadow Weaver" is just Shadow Weaver, that was still a flashback of the moment she joined the Horde. Also... Micah was the King of Bright Moon, Angela's Husband and Glimmer's Dad. Fun Fact: one of Bow's dads... George to be more specific.... is named after George DiCenzo, the voice actor of the original Bow character in the 80's She-ra. George's design also vaguely resembles original Bow's design.... tho obviously race-swapped.

Carabas

She also has them on her back. Catra is an animation-friendly tabby cat.

Carabas

The thing about Shadow Weaver is that the spell only changed her physically. She already was an abusive, ambitious, power-hungry manipulator of kids long befre the Spell Of Obtainment. She is always on the same side, her own, no matter what faction she pretends to be on. All IMO of course. There's lots of different opinions on how sincere she is in any given moment.

Carabas

Netflix believed that spraeding it out more with less time between releases would get more engagement. They did this to a lot of animated shows, not just the gay ones. The decision to split up the season came long after the episodes were finished. It's really just a show with 4 seasons of 13 episodes each, like they always planned it to be.

Phoenix_mercury

They don't drop shows, we're getting the whole thing

TheCasualNerd

"See whay happens when you use an ounce of communication?" Everyone watching: *sharp inhale* ohhhh yeahhh about that...

cipher

For S3 I would suggest two sessions of 3 episodes each. As the last 3 are basically one story. Also don't keep us waiting. I want to see your head explode as a result of watcher the last 3 episodes.

Shadow Serenity

Hey Mortius, Fun Fact! The intro song has a longer version on spotify!

Marceline_mother

It's pretty funny that Bow had to come out to his dads

Klaytor

Hal and berger the twins

Phoenix_mercury

They asked in the discord and I said for a diff split, because of a certain cliffhanger(yes I'm known for doing this now🤣)

Bettie Trapman

This doesn't really have anything to do with this show or reaction, but I think you'd really enjoy The Owl House if you haven't already seen it.

GoobieSnoobie

"same gender parents non poc kid", OWL HOUSE! i wont say which character in case of spoilers but YEAH

Phoenix_mercury

They have, it was part of pilot week over on open arms reactions

Quetzalcoatl

As adorable as Scorpia is, she's incredibly invasive of Catra's personal space and outright ignores her discomfort over it despite her constantly telling her to stop. As much as I like Scorpia as a character, I honestly can't blame Catra for getting so angry at her
