Oh man, this got to me. I'm so incredibly happy you got to see this series. That any of us did, really. I'm a former film critic, with some very high-end art often topping my favorites of each year, and Season 5 of She-Ra is still one of my favorite things I've seen this decade. It's a miracle. It's a profound case of skillful filmmaking & storytelling bringing a simple style to the absolutely sublime. I still pray that some thing changes in the world that may bring it back someday. Given the horrid currents of the industry, and how it treats queer & trans creators, I have some doubt on that, but like you said, I gotta believe: WE'RE GONNA WIN IN THE END!!

I love that we had three heterosexual ships confirmed in these two episodes, and *all three of them* have plausible platonic deniability, while Catradora get to be in-your-face explicit. Compare and contrast Catea and Shadow Weaver making heroic sacrifices--Catra: "I'm sorry! For everything!"/Shadow Weaver: "You're welcome."

My favorite part of this finale: how it truly all comes full circle. The entire series, her entire life even, Adora has refused to put herself first, constantly sacrificing and denying herself and refusing to even consider a world where what she wants matters as much as literally anything else. But in the end, she finally, *finally* makes a choice for herself, and it's the thing that lets her save the world.

Shadow Weaver's sacrifice is intriguing to me. Her entire life she's been trying to gain more and more power, and she knows that the magic stored in the Heart of Etheria, if she could figure out a way to access it, would give her all she would want and more. It seems more than likely the whole reason she adopted Adora at all was that she recognized the baby was a First One, and she's spent Adora's whole life grooming her to use the Failsafe so SW could harness all that magic. So to see her abandon all that at the last moment, and prioritize keeping the magic away from Horde Prime over taking it for herself, that's a monumental choice for her. It's not a redemption, of course, but it still says a great deal about who she is and what she cares about.

Also a small detail I love: Horde Prime's all about the light symbolism. Man loves him some "I am the light, and all else is the darkness." But the second he's faced with *real* light, light stemming from love instead of fear and control, he winces away from it.

[Heart, P1] "It feels like everything has been perfectly crafted to come to a head for this episode." Aaaaaamen. "AAAAAAGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOH." (In response to "Adora doesn't want me, not like I want her.") Yes, exactly. Exactly this. 1000% this. "PerforATION!" cracks me up every single time. "Okay, I didn't realize Light Hope post-factory-reset was homophobic." The worst part is that the First Ones' tech plays on the memories and feelings of the people there...really emphasizes Adora's own internalized walling off of what she wants for herself. "'cause we've been hearing for five seasons how this is going to end: WE'RE GONNA WIN!" It's not a spoiler if the show itself tells you, right? The *music* when Adora decides to part ways with Bow and Glimmer is *so* heartbreakingly beautiful. "What do you mean, I've only been watching thirteen minutes of this so far???" These last two episodes are paced *amazingly* well. They pack in *so* much, *so* effectively. "'So do something good with it for once,' through tears welling up." Just like Glimmer said to her, too. "I just pause at every line of dialog that Catra says at this point. I have too many emotions about this show and universe and characters." Yes, same. Entirely. It's *wild* how embedded into your heart these characters get. "I'm going to combust!" Bow's "*We're* the Best Friend Squad" kills me every single time. Fun fact! Karen Fukuhara had to ask how she was supposed to deliver the "I love you" line from Glimmer to Bow, because even *she* wasn't sure if the intent was platonic or a romantic confession! (It was, apparently, the latter, but I agree with you that it's a touching moment no matter how you read it!) Mara's line, "You're worth more than what you can give to other people. You deserve love to" is pretty much *the* thesis statement of the show. "Absolute cinema." Before you even said it, I started snickering because I *knew* you would love Sea Hawk's attempt to reach Mermista. (Minus the lack of shanty, of course.) "...how did I not see that coming?" The whole time, as you were predicting Shadow Weaver instead of Micah, I was thinking, "Ohh, this is going to hit him hard..." "WWWWWHAAAAAAAAAAT?!" Yep! Yep. "We are going to react to *just* the finale together." YAY! That's *delightful* news! "I have so many thoughts. So many emotions. And the only I can do with them...is press play." Yessss, LFG!

That scene, starting from when Glimmer has the vision of Angella, always gets so blurry for me...can't imagine why. 🥺 Bow's speech is *so good*. "I can't even call it a redemption arc." Yeah, no, no redemption for her. But...at least an attempt at some small atonement. (Minus the self-serving "You're welcome", of course...) "My first tears in the finale of this show are for *Shadow Weaver*?" Are they, or are they for Catra and Adora in that moment? That's how it lands for me, at least. As you noted, she's their mother figure, for better or worse, and no matter how awful she was, a mother sacrificing herself to ensure her "kids" survival has a lot of weight. "Just hold hands and each take half the magic." Yeeeeah, I don't think any number of mortals could share that much magic. "Dat's da smooch position!" You're not wrong...but also, there's a lot of episode left... Hordak's moment is *so* triumphant...and then so *trivially* undercut by Prime. It's *so* rude, *so* awful, and *such* a good villain move. "And it being Hordak's body at the end of it all is crazy symbolism." Right? It's *so* well done. Hordak still gets to be the Big Bad at the end, but it's not *really* Hordak. "Is this the future they could have?" Fun fact! It is apparently intended to be Etherian custom that couples exchange tokens with one another to indicate their long-term commitment(/marriage?). Catra is wearing Adora's pin (and, y'know, has that capelet/jacket in her colors). Bow and Glimmer are each wearing one of Angella's earrings. THE PROMISE THEME'S TRIUMPHANT FULL RETURN! DYGIILYIAHSPJTOPS! "I think I just ran out of reaction battery, guys." Legitimately fair. Cry-laughing is the best reaction to "Hello, I'm your dad." "You did this. You saved Etheria." Hey now, let's be real -- *Catra* saved Etheria. 😄 If she hadn't told Adora she loved her, Adora wouldn't have mad it back. Thank *you* for taking us on this journey with you, and not giving up the journey. I am so glad you decided to keep watching Sher-Ra despite the fact that it was underperforming. This show got me through the pandemic and I would watch it on video call with my best friend, reacting and commenting together, and your reaction took me back to that. This series was also one of the first positive queer media representations I got to watch, if not the first (especially in animation and in a way that wasn't solely centered around the characters' queer identity being their only trait), so this show has a special place in my heart. All this to say, this show and your reaction mean so much to me, and I am glad you enjoyed it just as much as I did when I first watched it as a teenager.

I absolutely love the Shadow Weaver sacrifice because of just how sad they managed to make the scene feel, while also not making it feel anywhere close to a redemption for Shadow Weaver, and i think a lot of that is amplified by the other two sacrifices we see in the show and how Shadow Weaver's compares to them. Comparing to Catra's sacrifice in 'Corridors', the most important difference when it comes to the topic of redemption (in my opinion at least) is that Catra actually survives after all. I've never liked self sacrifice being portrayed as an effective means of redeeming oneself, because i think an important part of redemption is actually facing your past and a *continuous* effort to be better, and even disregarding that, Shadow Weaver just being gone with one final selfless(?) act is just further traumatizing Catra and Adora who may very well be plagued by questions of 'why' with no way of getting closure. Now the other sacrifice is that of Angella of course. Of course, with Angella it had nothing to do with redemption, but they are both some kind of maternal figure/caretaker to Adora (and Catra for SW) and the important difference here is their final words and what they say about how truly selfless their sacrifices were (or were not), and im just gonna quote a video essay by Five by Five Takes here (they have a whole playlist of those and they're all excellent): "'You're welcome' is about what they owe to her, 'take care of each other' is about what they owe to each other".

Also, a really nice callback/parallel that im not sure if you picked up on it (would be understandable with all the emotions): Catra, with a dying Adora in her arms: "You can't give up. You've never given up on anything, not even on me" Adora, standing in front of a chipped Catra fighting Prime's control: "You've never listened to anyone in your life, are you really going to start now?"

I've watched the series through probably half a dozen times now and I bawl and the end (And several points along the way) every time... I don't know why this series hits me so hard but it does, even though I'm not anywhere close to the target demographic. Part of it is just how well done it is and part of it is just how much hope and joy it has in such a cynical world...
