Video: How to make rocky bases for your miniatures!

Apologies it's slightly later than expected, I had some technical difficulties. Hopefully there's some useful tips here for a couple of different methods to create rocky basing for your display or table top miniatures. Hey Dave, great video. I have a question about the plinths. Do you paint them in any way, like primer, or leave them as they come?

Bad Motivator

Thanks Dave. Well explained, and really useful to see how it's done.

Excellent video, these are techniques I havent really seen before.

Fantastic! Will use these methods for display pieces. Can I ask what tufts you are using? They always look bloody excellent on your bases.

Awesome! I’ve never seen this done before. Brilliantly put together dude! I can’t wait to give this a try.

Awesome vid as usual broodah and great to see an actual video of this method as there’s a bit more technique to it than just words in an article can easily convey!

Clarkey

Great video as always. The first part’s a bit like making a puff pastry!

Stuart sayer

Love the video never thought about using a rotary tool to create texture.

Great video! Definitely going to give this a go. Thanks for taking the time to share this technique.

Always super helpful content. I can see myself using this for both basing and terrain pieces where I want to add some character and detail. The surface texture on the rock looks like it would be hard to achieve with just a knife. To get the same amount of variation in the surface is the rotary tool pretty much essential?

infernalbrush

I think the rotary tool is very useful for adding the texture as milliput becomes very difficult to work with once dry. You can also sculpt in any details/texture as its drying but yes for this method the rotary tool is pretty much essential. Thanks for the feedback as ever Tim!

infernalbrush

haha yes very much like pastry actually, thank you for the feedback Clarkey!

infernalbrush

Thank you Ramon, your feedback is very appreciated!

Super useful. I've already made a bunch of pieces ready for basing. Just thin pieces, going to try some chunky ones tonight.
