Violet Van Vyle in Opposite Day Page 13 (Patreon)

When last we saw Violet Van Vyle, femme fatale and super spy for Vyzer, she had just unwittingly dispatched an unfortunate security guard. For those of you just joining us, I'll break down what's going on real quick: Violet thinks she is secretly infiltrating the headquarters of the Spex organization. She is not. She is currently at Timpani Mall, a medium sized shopping complex just on the outskirts of Awesome City. Unfortunately for her, the visor she's wearing is equipped with an augmented reality feature that is projecting a VR simulation of of her intended destination. Thanks to this wonder of technology, she also cannot hear the people in the mall and thinks that she is alone. Even more unfortunate for her, her power armour (which was supposed to make her invisible, not unlike the Predator) is malfunctioning and falling apart, leaving her far more visible than she ever intended to be. So she is blithely going about her business, completely unaware of her situation.
Currently, she's reached the food court, which her faltering technology is misleading her to think is the Spex communication centre.
Oh boy, this background. I know it doesn't look like much, but this thing took an egregious amount of time to draw. I had always planned the final act of this story to take place in a food court, and I knew I wanted to have a wide establishing shot to make sure it was clear that this was a different place than the regular mall. I also knew that it was going to be a challenge, I just had no idea how much grinding it would take it make it look even half passable. You got people, all different shapes and sizes, all sitting down, you got furniture, you got food they're supposed to be eating, you got restaurant signs...I tell you what: it's a lot to do for one panel. If I had unlimited time, I might have modelled it in a 3D program, had some more extras, maybe a nice sign up there at the top that says "Food Court" to drive home the food courtness of it all...but deadlines are deadlines and I couldn't afford to futz around with it anymore. It gets the message across anyway: this is a court, a court of food.
I don't know where I'm going with this, I think I'll get a snack.
