Millennial Mage, Book 2 <Working title: More Dangerous Than We Realize> is in need of a cover, and I'd love your opinions. 😁

Requirements:

Tala must be on the cover

Action-y is better

Inspired by a scene from the story (Chapters 41 - 70)

Not too spoilery (riding Terry is likely a no-go for this second one, too) ☹ <SOON!... Well, book 4, maybe...>

I've put a few ideas, below. Let me know which you'd like best/which you feel best represents the tale.

If you can think of another scene, which you think would work, add it to the comments!

'Like' any in the comments that you think would be good.

Thank you!J.L.Mullins

I think the thing that hooked me initially was the whole "slice of life" aspect of the story. Hence the wild card scene appeals most to me.

J.L.Mullins

My concern with that is that THIS book, these chapters, are much less slice of life than other parts of the story. 😅 That said, the "wild card" might be a good one to get as an overarching, series cover. 😁

The wild card scene works pretty well. You've got Terry teased, it's representative of her priorities, ad the slice of life is a big part of what's enjoyable. I hope it's understood that 'coffee' means half a dozen mugs.

I also like the wild card idea the best, but I do see your point about it not being best suited to this part of the story. Of the other ideas what about some combination of Tala with Terry, lightning terror birds, and Nightwing Ravens, or more perhaps a group of mixed-looking unidentified birds (one of which is Terry) that's done in such a way that you are not quite sure if Tala is fighting them, feeding them or flying/falling with them or if she is doing all three at the same time.

Cyrus McEnnis

The advantage of doing the terror birbs / nightwing birbs is that you could just use stock images of chickens with appropriate SPFX and you'd be 99% of the way there.

Melting Sky

A lot depends on the skills of the artist and what they do best. For instance, the Night Raven scene with Tala falling through the sky is very dynamic and complex. An artist that excels with intensely stylized perspectives and implied motion could do amazing things with that kind of subject matter yet if you gave that same project to an amazing artist who specialized in serene impressionistic landscapes or photo-realistic portrait work you and the artist might end up quite frustrated with how things turn out. I really love the idea of an injured but fiercely determined Tala plummeting through the air amidst the murderous Nightwing Ravens, all of this set against the backdrop of an alien night sky lit by unfamiliar stars, nebula, moons. Sadly, I also think this is by far the most difficult subject for an artist to tackle and do well. It is also a very dark and complex scene which means when it is invariably turned into a thumbnail it could easily end up looking like an unimpressive dark smudge even if it is a mind-blowingly well executed scene at full size.

Tala facing the cyclops, about to be hit. It's actiony and it's a bit of a teaser. Makes you buy the book to find out what happens. Already hit and skipping along the ground only makes you ask yourself if she survives or not. Showing her about to be hit makes you wander what crazy shenanigans is she about to pull. The raven one is too difficult to get right, it requires you to see her fighting the flock, her falling, the ground for perspective, the size of the ravens, the size of the flock... The food one is just plane boring. People will see it and think its just slice of life and nothing happens. The lightning birds also too difficult to put in perspective and see all the details.

STORRM

mostly balled, very naked, coved in mottled iron with a fruit picker.... in a grove of glowing tree's with all the trees bending over to touch her, feels very on point with "picking fruit is more dangerous then expected" you could also have Terry hiding in a shadow, because its already implied he's flowing her at that point.

Since there are progression fantasy elements to the story something that indicates the "power ups" might be good. Possibly in combination with some of the other ideas.
