Today I put up the short version of yesterday's video. Tomorrow I should be putting up Blender Part 4. I actually lost NO TEXTURES recording it, so get ready to see textures not being lost 👍Small aside about YT shorts. They've been very helpful for upping overall views and subs lately. Im enjoying making them and having even just one short a day to put out in between regular videos is nice. I do have one small issue with the format that I hope YouTube changes soon though. When I was first making shorts (my first was for the round gamecube vid) you could choose a thumbnail as you could any video. YouTube quickly removed that feature so now thumbnails are randomly chosen from a unknown frame of the short. It may not seem like a big deal, but nobody looks at the shorts titles, making thumbnails far more important for peoples interest. Although it doesn't matter when you're already swiping through shorts, the thumbnail is pretty much 100% of the reason you would click to start watching a specific short to begin with, and is a huge factor on if you short gains traction. So right now, one of the big deciding factors of a shorts popularity is a complete dice roll.People who are good at marketing and thumbnails are lowered to RNG and people who aren't sometimes just get lucky. I just don't like luck being a factor, even though my luck has been good with shorts so far.ALSO since I'm just rant typing at this point, since you COULD put custom thumbnails early on in the shorts lifetime, those shorts that do have customs, now eternally have a leg up. Very odd.Youtube does plan on adding thumbnails back so thats at least something to look farwards to. Thats my marketing rant for the day. For my own curiosities, how much do you all think the thumbnail matter for short?

personally all i do is look is look at the thumbnail when deciding what to watch. i actually just realized reading this that i barely, if ever, look at video titles

I'm a titles person. I glance at the thumbnail but ultimately decide on what to watch based on the title. But I don't watch shorts on YouTube like at all lmao

I don't usually watch YouTube shorts, so the only time I ever see one, it's being recommended to me on the YouTube homepage. Because of that I think that the thumbnails are very important, solely for the reason that it draws in the demographic that doesn't scroll through them.

I honestly don't watch YouTube shorts. The only time they catch my attention is when someone I already watch happens to post one. I totally understand the thumbnail thing, though. The same thing happens to me with Instagram reels.

I definitely take in both the thumbnail and the title when I'm gonna watch a Short because for the most part I try to avoid them. Hard to do when shortform content is being shoved down our throats on all social media platforms now but what can ya do, they figured out how to exploit our dumb little pea brains.

How is youtube short? Such a big website?

JohnGunn-

That sucks. If you edit a short does that change the thumbnail too . Because I was gonna say you can layer a picture of the thumbnail over the entire video , then after posting it edit it and turn the opacity off on the picture so you get the thumbnail plus the video. Or you can splice in like 20 pics at 0.001 second length and hope one gets chosen as the thumbnail. Personally I don't watch too many shorts. But yes I think the majority of the market depends on the thumbnail+cool title, you da man

I click on anything that interests me, so any interesting thumbnail catches my attention right away. I watch videos to turn my brain off and be like, "Heehee. Video funny." So the less I need to read the better.

Shorts are definitely RNG, I had one get 1.4k views, and then another one had 100, except both didn’t have thumbnails, so I do think people read the titles

wrenisded

i me most shorts just gain traction from the shorts tab not the channel but it would help with finding shorts

SaraSandwich

I enjoy the shorts versions of your videos because something about cutting them down makes them feel unhinged but in the best kind of way

in my experience, i'm more likely to watch a short with a neat title. for example, there is one on my homepage right now called "where his tail go??" and i am fighting the compulsion to find out where this dog's tail has gone

I don't watch a lot of YT Shorts on the app, and I've only made 1 for my own channel but it was very annoying to know you couldn't add your own thumbnails. Years back my channel didn't even have thumbnails most times but instead the auto thumbnails, and some of my private videos have been formated to Shorts regardless. It's a odd thing.
