Can't say I agree with it either, it would be good to see you as a player again. In the context of this game you had a rivalry which was entertaining and it correctly factored in to the whole thing. That wouldn't be the case every episode. As long as it's entertaining, we don't mind, look how many really enjoyed this episode. But what happened to Adam's apology :) He was right after all (but for the wrong reason). There was a good moment where you suggested the players build out Vigormortis world as the other possibility, but the group didn't run with it and you didn't commandeer them to push it

Ian W

I think we're going to need a ruling...

Rod Waynick

Cholula Chipotle, Blair!

Shyranda Monroe

Now rewatch the entire video and only watch Jon’s face 😂 #DaddyBenStan, but this was perfection

Caledronius

That was just...insane! Well done everyone!!!

CallistoWarriorQueen

You were great as a player. The main point of a game is that everyone enjoys themselves and I'd hate to see Ben not play at his full capacity and enjoy himself just because he's an experienced player and storyteller.

Steven Hanley

Adam and Carley do this too though. One of the skills of the game is being able to convince other people of your worldview, there's nothing wrong with using that. Adam has cost the good team the win before by selling everyone on an incorrect version of events. It's all part of the game.

Alan Walshe

Was so much fun seeing Daddy Ben play at last :)

Tammy Driessen

Well done everyone. I do feel for Ben, he could have been right. Ken voting for Holly at the end was very clever. Holly....how are you so cool under pressure?! Thanks for a great episode.

Crapoleon

I also think that Carley enjoyed "playing" against Ben, which she mentioned when talking about atheist being her favourite script to be a ST. So Ben was up against the Jon rivalry meta, one of the best NRB players in Holly, the best minion player in Ken and Carley wanting Ben to think it was a ln Atheist game. I will also say that Ben social read Holly as evil on day one.

Jordan Robertshaw-Jowett

I think it was just that it's something I try really hard not to do myself, something that I'm always afraid that I'm doing, so I saw it in someone else when it probably wasn't really there.

Player13

I loved watching the chaotic play from so many people! Tom, Ken, even Sully for much of the game kept people guessing and confused

Funk

I get where you were coming from here. But I think this is just his style. I think a lot of experienced players have this style of trying to lead things in what they think is the right direction when good. I know I do, even when I try to hold back and not make it seem like I'm being too forceful or whatever. If someone ever said the magic words "What if Tom is a politician trying to win with evil?" I think it could've changed this whole game. Multiple goods had politician reads on him earlier, and if they were thinking along those lines all of a sudden the non-atheist world makes a lot more sense. I really thought it was going to snowball in that direction for a bit, but unfortunately no one really brought up that possibility. Also it's kind of brilliant that Ben's fisherman hint is what really could've solved the game for him if he took it to heart.

Steven Scott

Ken is soooo great at this game with the double bluffs. You never know when or if you can trust anything he is saying, ever.

phil

What a beautiful voice holly, thanks, that was wonderful

Brian Duffy

Late to the party, but Tom's bluff created two separate pieces of evidence Ben argued with - that there was an outsider missing, and that there were two monks. I would argue that deserves the win.

Callum McKenzie

I love Tom but he really deserved to lose that game!

Sean Gleaves

I'm less convinced. Tom did add to Ben's evidence for an Atheist worldview, but it was only cementing a belief that Ben already held, and Ben had enough other evidence that he likely would have pushed the nomination through regardless of Tom's bluffs. So in that regard, Ben, not Tom, was the most responsible player for the good team losing (or arguably Ken, both for sowing so much character confusion and for perfectly timing his poisonings so that the Fortune Teller got the most misleading information possible). Had Tom managed to stay alive until the final day and shepherded the storyteller nomination himself, that would have been a different story.

BardBarianBoi

absolutely love the Yu-Gi-Oh chat

Jellythorpe

I would've given Tom the politician win there, throwing in the extra monk and not coming out as the politician I think we're two of the biggest reasons the team were swayed to vote for the storytellers

arnoldk

Sully's announcement at the beginning and Jon's monologue at the end should have alluded to atheists not believing in the existence of supernatural beings in general, and in this story, demons. Would've tied into the story more nicely in the end that the villagers decided to ditch their god(s) and it turned out there was a demon amongst them and they were inevitably destroyed.

Soluna Espinosa Pieb

Was just thinking this, but I also think it's hard as a storyteller to give a politician a side-switch win if you can't really see it. I personally agree that Tom was "the player most responsible for [his] team losing", but he never made an obvious, standout, MVP play for the evil team, making it a tough call for Carly and Jon. Tom's damage to the good team is much clearer to see as a viewer of the edit.

Jason Wentworth

I think I'd give the Politician win there. A combination of hard claiming Monk well enough that several people called it as a reason to believe it was an atheist game, as well as not coming out when Ben was explicitly calling that a Politician would just come out and then by not coming out messing with the outsider numbers. It's kind of a catch-22 but I think if Tom comes out that last day and says he's the politician I think Ben becomes less swayed and it's by no means a clear win. ... though the Yu-Gi-Oh chat was maybe the main reason people were looking in Holly's direction to begin with.

Cakey

I think Carley and Ben should switch indefinitely

Bob

This is my favorite episode, by far. Ken is electric, Tom is soothingly sinister, Holly('s voice) is angelic, and Jon is a sassy little brat who got exactly what he wanted. Chef's kiss. Also, Tom won! I don't care if anyone says different.

Kristyn Tubbs

I do think Tom made a great effort but objectively, Ben was pushing the absolute hardest for an Atheist, so in the end he is the one that did the most damage to the good teams chances. If Tom was vocal about an atheist as well, then maybe they could make the case that he was on the winning team.

Natasha Williams

The Jon-Ben rivalry is everything 😂 love seeing Ben on the other side of the grimoire. What a fun watch!

Stuartdouglas19 .

Ken manages to simultaneously convince people of both multiple minions and no minions

Ruth S

Surely Tom won with Evil? Props to Adam for 100% calling exactly what had happened. Great to watch!

Emma Fradd

I live for Holly's waiting room singing

Harald Korneliussen

I think Tom thought for a while that Holly actually was the saint, and was trying to become MVP for the evil team by making her look evil. But then he was probably just persuaded by Ben. He's such a great character, I miss him in recent games.

Mark.A

Merry Christmas everyone!

Dradkyn

Thank you NRB crew for a great year. Merry Christmas

Courtney Rose

A Christmas miracle! We're not celebrating til next week so thank you for providing me with something to do (aside from marathoning the old eps!) Happy Holidays NRB <3

Reutermo

I've always wanted to see Ben in a player role on NRB and a Atheist game on top of that!! Christmas miracle indeed!! Merry Christmas 🎄!

Levana Tse

Holly singing All I Want For Christmas is a gift I didn't expect. I want a full NRB album now D:

Liam Kirby

Woohoo! Was going to watch the Pee Wee Herman Christmas Special with the kids, but now this is our Christmas Eve viewing

Gavin Provost

Merry Christmas to my fellow NRB nerds!

Fraser McMinigal

Merry Christmas everyone. This is proper exciting. 👌

ItzSmashley

This has just blown my mind, yesss

Karon Stretton

Thank you so much! Merry Christmas to you all

Bobby G.

Merry Christmas! ❤️

Lexicorn Fell

This reminded me of that QI Christmas special where Alan Davies got to switch places with Stephen Fry. Great game, guys. Merry Christmas.

MisterrrScott

What a Christmas treat! Holly singing, Daddy Ben playing, Adam and Sully flirting right in front of Brooke. But oh, those poor birds...

Liz Dwyer

Merry Christmas everyone. Thanks NRB for a delightful year full of entertaining silliness and genuinely touching moments. I'm staying on booooard.

Richard Dressler

!!!!SPOILERS!!!! I was originally disappointed with Ken's play, because I thought it killed the Atheist world, but this went on to become possibly my favorite episode ever. Happy holidays, y'all

Wesley Kennedy

They didn't mention anything about it but I would argue he 100% should consider that a win

Joseph Cloud

Merry Christmas to all the NRB crew and patrons. I loved the way Tom played this.

Worcanna

Jon and the NRB crew call Tom a tree so often, but I'm pretty sure none of them ever ent it. I'll leave.

Jordan Snyder

One of the best botc games on the channel, absolutely loved this episode!

Jerrod Gruber

Coming in 11 minutes into the video to acknowledge those amazing runs by Holly. Sing it girl!

Micah Knab

Yeah he did. Carley says that since he confused the outsider count he was included in the win. There were just a lot of people talking over when she said that.

Ali from Australia

Great episode! Watching this made me late for Christmas lunch! Lol... worth it! (I'm in Australia) 🎄 Merry Christmas NRB and patreon!!!

Brynn

One of the best episodes to date! Ken at his chaotic best

Donny Wilson

Great episode! Though I do have a rules clarification though. I thought the ceranovous could only make people made about being a good player, and no one seemed to mention that when Ken was pretending to be cera mad about being the goblin. I thought Daddy Ben would have called him out on that immediately

Rob W

The Cerenovus has a special Goblin rule when they're on the same script - "The Cerenovus may choose to make a player mad that they are the Goblin!"

Icy_Naomi

Can we get an official statement did Tom win or not?

greg nicholas

Carley in the wrap up said that Tom threw enough confusion to give evil the win, so he did win as well

Liz Dwyer

Yes, you should leaf right now.

Adam Gough (greasykid1)

Another great game from the NRB team. Everyone was so perfect, not just in gameplay, but in pure entertainment. I love that NRB has truly become THE go-to channel for BOTC content. The edit, the storytelling, the unravellings, the rivalries ... it all comes together to make truly awesome content. Also, more Carley, more often please. :)

Jeffra

I’ve been wondering when Jon might join the ST side of things. Yay! Carley did a fabulous job as ST as well. I was also worried about Ken’s plays but they all worked out brilliantly. He’s grown a lot in this game!

Donny Wilson

Ah forgot about that caveat, thanks for the response!

Brendon

I agree with Ben how was Adam so sure? I usually barrack for evil but this game I really wanted Ben to show NRB how it is done. Unlucky Ben

David McGill

this game frustrated me in the sense that it felt evil were getting handheld throughout the game but also loved it as a trolling ben game.

Ferenc

Marry Christmas for all! Congrats for Ken and Tom for outstanding play!

Noony x33

HOLLY! Your voice is amazing babe!!!

Niko

So many people wearing abhorrently patterned sweaters, yup, this is that Christmas special.

Noony x33

fucking faaaaaantastic a great job to everyone, and special cudos to our sexy storytellers and the evil team, I think that the parts you played had your backs against the wall but you did amazing anyway, BE PROUD ASF ♥ great game everyone, cant wait for the next one

Noony x33

putting a second comment here for hollys singing cause I absolutely went back and listened to it 741 more times ♥ honestly want to hear more Holly singing so direct me to there if you can! (or Ill hear more in more NRB content ♥

BLB

Ironically, I think the moment which sealed it was Ben, who had previously claimed the politician had not done enough, shouting very loudly at Adam about the seemingly pointless double-claim.

BLB

This might be the best game yet. Absolute scenes. Tom found the perfect approach with the double-claim, Ken was hilarious and perfect, and the Atheist dynamic was amazing.

Jordan Robertshaw-Jowett

I'm a 'forever DM' (someone who almost always plays as DM in D&D, and only occasionally gets to play as a player.) From that perspective, I think Ben comes across very poorly in this game, especially in the last day. Since he's a hyper-experienced player and forever-DM playing as one of the party, he acts in a way that someone in that role shouldn't: 'Big Leaguing,' commandeering too much of the conversation, presenting things other people raised that were merely improbable as impossible, shoving his worldview too hard, dismissing other people's worldviews too hard... He should have backed off, let the usual players have more of the spotlight and presented his opinions as just that, opinions. Just my IMO, and this doesn't prevent this from being one of the best episodes ever.

Azrael

I enjoyed this, but I do think Ken has got to the point now where he is effectively just ignored in the town square. Im not sure whether or not this is generally an effective strategy, but its both pretty dull and very helpful when on the evil team of an atheist script. Ben correctly pointed out on day 2 that if Ken was good he should just immediately come out as mad - and as he was claiming Goblin the fact that he didnt meant that he had to be evil and thus not an atheist game.

Megan Flack

Hope Brooke finds her hot sauce!

Kyle B

Absolutely loved this episode. SPOILERS: Did Tom not turn? I would've 100% let him win with evil for both confusing the number of Outsiders and convincing town there were at least two Monk tokens handed out, all against the tough situation of a Fisherman having info that damns him. He perfectly pulled the strings to look like a sincere Monk while still searching for evil team. I don't think Ben was right that a Politician didn't earn their win by that point, ironically because the Politician wasn't taking his bait in asking them to out themselves. By staying silent, they were pushing that evil Atheist win. A Politician that outs at that point is 100% stuck good, because there's no way out at that point. They've given the count away, which is the key to good solving the game.

willowthewisp91

I'm pretty sure TOm got the win with evil judging by his work, all you comment that one hundred percent makes sense and I thought Carley said he did. Might be misremembering

Kyle B

She gave a solid reason he should've turned and won during the reveal, but never said that he did. She also later says that Mara's six yes's contributed largely to the Atheist world, so I assume it wasn't given to him based on that? Really no clear answer in the video other than him not being a red token or otherwise mentioned as turning.

Dradkyn

With a John Gracey song The Minstrel of Ravenswood Bluff

Giveseed

This was way too funny. Well done evil team, sorry daddy Ben.

Frosting Fox

Holly just whipped out the best singing performance I have seen in my life out of NOWHERE!

Anonymous

I am not sure if Tom won or not. I am not sure he is the ”most responsible” due to how vocal Ben was or how much misinformation there was due to Mara (not their fault)

Wade Radomske

I too am conflicted on Tom. His refusal to remove the double Monk claim really led Ben to being adamant about Atheist though. So I think you COULD claim he should win.

Réka Kristó

I absolutely do not agree with the previous comment, I think Ben you were doing what any player would and should do. It is much harder to be a player than a spectator assumes. I really enjoyed seeing you as a player.
