It's time for something a little different...

If you'll indulge us a short while, we're going full ouroboros and playing a BOTC homebrew script that's ALL ABOUT US, begging the question, if you're the Sullivan, then who am I??

Releasing this a little earlier than usual because, in case you didn't know, an In-Person episode will be dropping on the YT channel at 6pm. WHAT A BIG CLOCKTOWER DAY.

As experimental characters, a lot of these were actually really interesting. I’d like to see some of the more chaotic groups try to break this script, then hand it back to NRB with the kinks all worked out. The new mechanics really made the players return to the basics in an entertaining way.

This script is a little rough around the edges but there are so many mechanics I love. My sincere congratulations to the author for creating something so fun! I love the sock puppets. I want sock puppets added to official BotC. Laurie is great, but probably shouldn't exist on a script where evil can see the grimoire. Tom is overpowered, since it's both an info gathering and ability resurrecting(ish) ability. Maybe have the story tellers visit every night that both statements are true up until the player decides to have a dead player regain their ability for the day? Dan is flawless and so much fun, especially on a script where townsfolk can be evil and demons/minions can register as townsfolk. Father Benjamin needs to be able to do something cool. My initial misread of Blaire's power is entertaining and I want to see it played: You start knowing a good player. If you are drunk or poisoned on the first night, they become evil but still register to you as good. I also want to see Ken, Rosie, and all of the other demons in played.

I agree, I love the script, but it seems like it's still just a first draft and not the final product. I also thought the combo of the the Laurie and the Tempest was an odd choice. And when I read the Tom I almost immediately thought of multiple game related statements that I could make that could be used to cheese it.I'd probably reword it to be a bit more specific or tightly restricted. Maybe somrething like require the be statements be related to the current game, not just the game in general and maybe make it so they have to be facts not just statements since an opinion would count as a statement and would be hard to be called wrong. Also, on a more NRB lore related note, I'd probably have made Blair and Brooke the Evil Twin counter parts, since that is one of the oldest running jokes I can think of on the channel.

Haven't watched the video yet, just looked at the script. Great idea and probably perfect for one game but on a first glimpse there seem to be some problems with the script. A lot of characters are standard characters with a small change. Jon and Father Benjamin read like outsiders (detrimental abilities). Some characters seem to work differently than intended. Killing 2 players as Carley is already OP and since you don't have to use "once per game" abilities, the 2nd part of her ability is just another upside (yeah, Carley is OP in RL but this is too much). The public game related statements by Tom could be something like "there are 9 alive players", so you have an even more powerful Gossip (more upside, less downside, better confirmation) that can additionally be played as some kind of professor. Also, the balance seems to be a bit off. Too much drunk/poison protect vs drunk/poison sources. Too few good information roles. Btw. is there a rivalry between Blair and Tempest I'm not aware off? Their abilities read like that and he is (besides Rosie) the only source of 1st night drukenness.

I feel the Teri should be a Fabled character, never actually directly present, but always hanging over the script. As a random attempt at an appropriately Teri ability: "The first player who successfully makes the Storyteller laugh each day gets double votes for the rest of the day"

I think the script has some balancing issues that need some working out, but I do like that so many of the characters are so OP. There's something fun about a game where everyone is even more powerful than normal, even if it doesn't seem that way with balancing.

I must say I like the Sock Puppet idea. Rather than being drunk and simply having no effect on the game state, you are guaranteed to have either the desired effect or the complete opposite effect — and you have no idea which.

That was really funny and entertaining, but I felt really bad for (the actual) Tempest. Poor guy had NOTHING to do all game. Must've been torture.

To be fair, he could've done a lot during the game. He just didn't really seem all that invested at all. He had a role that knew one evil player right off the bat and then Mara told him she was the Laurie. That meant when she died, he knew half of the evil team. Yet rather than use any of that information, he just sat there and didn't really talk unless spoken to.

I don't understand why Tempest willingly takes himself out of the game. Non-information-gathering? Almost no one on this script is. People are still talking, you can still make social reads, give your thoughts, vote, share info. Dead or "useless" characters don't mean the player can't help their team immensely.

What a leveller. It says a lot that the 3 best/most experienced players in Ken, Holly and Patters were all in the good team and they lost. The logic game was nullified to an extent. Amazing game!!

The greatest power as a townie is knowing youre a townie, and gathering info. And even better if youre alive you have the power of nominations. Very much wish he played it with a bit more effort. Everyone was so sus of Brooke that if he outed Mara too, Good team woulda won that handily

This is a brilliant idea. It also has the fun quirks of receiving true answers when drunk/poisoned/in a Vortox game which makes anything you get that seems true even more unbelievable if anything.

I hope they stop inviting Tempest. I have nothing against him as a person, but he completely gave up in this game (when he could have easily helped Good win) then he complained about having nothing to do for 4 hours.

Dom's case for why they should execute Sully at the end was absolutely terrible and they all voted anyways. He was not concise at all. Said Um every other word and rambled too long. Seemed obvious.

Thinking back on this, it is way too powerful as is. New Ghost Lawyer: If you are executed, you may vote as if you are still an alive player New Minion, Secret Dommunist: If you are executed, you get 2 extra ghost votes. If killed by the Demon, poison an alive townsfolk for the rest of the game.

Yeah, unfortunately I agree. And just as another note, as watchers we love to see our twins do more bits about being evil/good, not sit there and sound very sad when saying his dad joke. Tempest complaining about having nothing to do is just silly. The thing he had to do was be funny and disrupt whoever he thinks the evil players are. And help with puzzles like Holly's sudoku. Having said all that, this could just be a learning moment for Tempest and someone skilled in the game gives him all the tips for playing the twins and play as the twins in a game on the side. People aren't static, and Tempest is cute.

Yeah I didn't feel sorry for him even slightly. Him just giving up because he got a weak role was the main reason good lost. Yes, this script is hot garbage and only fun because of who is playing it, but it's not about your role, it's about figuring out who the demon is.

Sully and Tempest lost the game by themselves. Tempest got such good info right at the start (and Mara hinted that fact at the end) but was so focused on "poor me got a shitty role" that he shut down and refused/forgot to mention his conversation with Mara and her being the Laurie. Sully, from his point of view, should be sure that the Demon had to be either Ken or Dom and didn't use his power on a 50% chance to stop the demon. And he misused it AGAIN when from his point of view Dom HAD to be the demon (Jon must be at worst a minion in this situation). Sully... xD.

The wild thing about this script is that, with Daddy Ben and Father Benjamin in play, the demon can kill Daddy Ben in the night and then simulate the demon having been killed, at which point if the town executes Father Benjamin, the town still loses because Father Benjamin would be the first one to be executed.

That sounds a bit too powerful. Maybe it should just be flipped. No one knows but while alive you only get one vote but then when dead you can’t repeatedly vote as if alive?

I think Father Benjamin being a "townsfolk" but working like an outsider is the joke. The meta is that he's not a member of nrb, but he's in all the clocktower videos. Unofficial member = outsider townsfolk.

I think Tempest (and Dan in other games) tend to try to solve the game solo, defaulting to trusting no one - and not really progressing beyond their first intuitions

I have a couple suggestions for characters even though I'm years late. The Dom: every time you are nominated you must give a convincing rant on why you shouldn't be executed and why the person executing you is stupid or you automatically die (outsider) The Holly: if you are nominated but your defense saves you, at night select one person to die (minion) The Ken: at night, select three people. The storyteller decides which one of them dies (demon) The Laurie: each day, if you make two correct statements about people's roles, you are safe from death that night (townsfolk) The Mara: if you are "mad" that you're an outsider and die, youv learn which outsiders are in play and can protect one of them for 3 nights (townsfolk) The Blair: if you show a live cat to another player, you and they are safe from execution that day (townsfolk)

Summarizing some role ideas from the comments, and adding my own: Dom, Minion: Each day, if you have spoken the most words of anyone publicly, create a new Dom. The new Dom's alignment is also evil. Ghost lawyer, Townsfolk: While dead, can decide to take over someone's prosecution/defense once per day. Can also vote each night while dead (Steven's comment). Laurie, Outsider: Your team can't win. Your alignment changes to whoever interacts with you with their ability (so a Laurie must be drunk/poisoned to win). Your ability still functions while dead (or maybe not would be fun as well - based on Liam's comment). Jon, Townsfolk: "Each day, ask the Story Teller a question. They must lie to you. You register as drunk or poisoned, even if not." (Emerson's comment) Sullivan, Townsfolk: You must be mad about being your own character. If you break madness, you may be executed. Each night, pick a player. You learn their alignment (or maybe how many letters are in their role name). Ben Burns, Outsider: Each day that a player is not executed, the storytellers can execute one additional player.

It’s slightly odd Tempest didn’t out Mara, Ken or Patters could probably have inferred which character Mara really was if he’d have brought it to the town square. Tempest does seem to be unlucky with the roles he seems to pull. Just as, if there’s a “silly” role, Sullivan often seems to get that one. Or if there’s an evil one, Holly or Dom seem to always get those.
