Coming up in September on NRB Patreon! (Patreon)

Hello NeRBs! 

Thought I’d drop in to let you know what you’ve got coming up content-wise during the next month on Patreon: 

The poll to decide which game is played in the Patreon-Exclusive Board Game Club is live now, so make sure you exercise your Patreon rights and vote for what you want to see played. We’ll shoot asap after the vote has concluded and get that over to you early September. 

We’ll also have a new episode of Unboxed winging its way to you this month where we’ll be discussing Stalin’s sophomore stroke of genius: Communopoly 2. (Disclaimer: I have not been forced to praise our glorious leader against my will.) 

And we’ll have not one, but TWO Patreon-Exclusive episodes of Blood on the Clocktower for you to make up for August’s shortfall!  Please also remember that tomorrow Communopoly 2 releases for the unwashed masses so if you want to get in before the crowd check out our previous post to get hold of the link.

Over on the main channel we’ve got Block Party, Lovecraft Letter and Beast all in the can for Board Game Club, and Teri is beavering (bear-vering?) on Honey Heist for later in the month.

Honestly loving Laurie in the driver’s seat. It’s so nice seeing another side of him than the boiling rage. My partner and I were trying to decide which members of the cast would be babyfaces or heels in a wrestling environment. Originally we said Laurie would be a heel, but after thinking about it more we decided he’d be a natural babyface that just kicks ass like a Stone Cold Steve Austin or babyface CM Punk. All that to say, team Laurie all the way!

In light of Matt Lees’ posts which I only read this morning, I’m cancelling my Patreon Subscription to NRB. Didn’t really know anything about TDM or it’s ownership of NRB, I’m purely here for the games and the fun but I really do not feel comfortable contributing now knowing who’s pockets I’m lining. I think Oli needs to be front and centre on this with transparency, and communications. I love seeing Laurie, Sully, Holly, Blair, Dom, Tilly and the rest of the cast and they were the reason for me subscribing to the Patreon and contributing to both BotC kickstarters in the first place. I really feel for them now and hope they knew nothing of the goings on with Adam et al. If they were to continue under a different guise/ management I would definitely contribute again but for now, I’m out. I’ll still follow on Twitter and subscribe to the YT channel just to see what the resolution to this mess turns out to be.

Matt Lees, of Shut Up and Sit Down, posted on Twitter this morning that Alex Shane, one of the principal shareholders of TDM - the company which owns WT and NRB - has been accused of predatory behaviour in the past, and intimated that this might be why they gave Adam a second chance, and why they are ‘protecting’ him now by not being forthcoming with information regarding the case. What you decide to do with this information is entirely up to you.

I mean trident own a lot of youtube channels and i am here to support the team. Its not them that caused the error. Adam might be innocent or not but eventually we will know plus if there is a formal legal investigation they cant say anything

I agree wholeheartedly that it's up to any individual what they do with this information, but I do think that it has been made clear (and aligns with the law) that because NRB is part of a company and Adam was an employee (who had very publicly put on a show of being rehabilitated prior to hire at WrestleTalk that many people took to be sincere) they can't publicly discuss what they are doing. My only objection to what Matt Lees said is that he suggested that any of these details weren't very publicly available or had been purposely obscured including that Trident Digital Media owns NRB and WT, that several of the "regulars" work for TDM (which is confirmed on the Wiki, let alone harder to find places), and all information about ownership of TDM is publicly available as are their account filings, which highlight that Alex Shane's shares were significantly diluted in 2021 (which would also limit Shane from having any kind of control via the board in this or any situation and which confirms what was said at the time).

Matt's post on Twitter was interesting, but not substantive. I searched for an hour and could not find any mention of the allegations against Alex "Shane" Spilling ever having been tried in court or otherwise substantiated. I don't want to look like I'm defending a sexual predator, but I also don't think someone should be blackballed based on untested accusations. "Innocent until proven guilty," and all that. Yes, guilty people get accused of things they've done, but innocent people also get accused of things they haven't done, and people will use that as a weapon if they can get away with it. Now can we please cease speculating while we wait for facts?

Posted this above, but bears repeating: Matt Lees is absolutely entitled to his opinion about people and practices, but I do think he was misleading in terms of the transparency at play. TDM's financials and related documents are all publicly available (as they must be by law). The things that were stated publicly are backed up by them and Alex Shane does not have a "controlling" interest, though he does have shares and voter privileges - facts publicly available since 2021. By all means, everyone has to do what they are comfortable with, but we also all have unprecedented access to data and information. We also need to take responsibility for how we individually consume media. It is miscategorizing both past and present to say that there is a coverup and nothing Matt Lees posted provided any proof of that (just speculation).

FWIW I'm not sure "put on a show of being rehabilitated" is necessarily a fair framing. That would suggest his behavior never changed, and we don't know enough yet to say that. If an alcoholic stops drinking for a few years and then relapses, they didn't "put on a show" of getting sober- they actually DID get sober. It's possible this is what happened with Adam. Self-improvement is rarely a journey one takes in a straight line; if Adam has detoured, that detour is going to have consequences, but it's important that we don't just assume he never left the driveway. THAT can have consequences for other people we interact with who are on their own journeys and need a little grace to get where we all want them to go.

I'm wondering this as well. Was really hoping that a BotC video would be out today, but nothing so far, aww.. I know NRB have a lot going on right now, but oh it's been ever so long since BotC, and it's been so dearly missed! <3

Yess, came to see if anyone knew what was going on.. Of course as you said there's a lot happening right now with the NRB team, but I was definitely hoping for a BOTC upload today. I haven't gotten my fix in so long, and we're supposed to be getting two for September 💔

Hopefully there'll be a BotC next weekend, as there are still two Saturdays left in the month - not that we even know that the episodes will still be posted on Saturdays, but that's what I've come to expect, so I always check then <3 Although honestly, I'm checking every day at this point, aww.. I miss BotC so much <3 (I miss the Patreon menu, too - knowing when things were being released was so comforting <3 )

Can't see alot more BOTC with The Pandemonium Instute issuing a statement that they are pausing working with NRB while all this goes on. Starting to consider whether my patreon contribution is worth it!!

Crap, that's hugely disappointing although a bit odd. Did they say this recently? With Adam gone, I cannot really see what else they could want to see. I sincerely hope the two companies manage to come to terms as a lot of money was invested in the Kickstarter and the Patreon exclusive BOTC is a big pull for the Patreon. I will keep supporting them for a while yet to give them a chance to work all this out but it will be a struggle to justify it when I reassess my Patreon subs at the end of the year (I review all my subs in December each year) as life continues to get harder and more expensive here in the UK and the pulls to paying for NRB content are being removed. To clarify I do not include Adam as a pull, no offence to him but while I enjoy his on-screen character it was and is the cast that drew me into NRB and I did have some Adam related issues.

TPI said they will not be commercially involved. Their terms of use which they also posted states that others can play and stream. It just means no Ben and no cross-promotion.
