Hi lovelies,

If you're in the Sims community, you know about the launch of the Marketplace. Even though nothing about the greedy, disgusting decisions EA has made is surprising at this point, many of us were hoping for a miracle to save our beloved franchise. When the buyout was announced, I shared my decision not to buy new content after it goes through later this year. Well, the launch of the Marketplace just made me realize how naive I was, and even though I regret not just stopping after it was announced and giving my hard-earned money to that awful company to get some of the latest packs, I will definitely be starting now. I will not support the Marketplace, and I will not give EA any more money from now on to help them ruin the game for all of us.

I shared this on my socials, and will say it here again for those of you who follow me and want to know where I stand. I found in the Sims community so many amazing people and discovered incredible ways to express creativity in so many different forms. I'm still amazed by it. If yes, nothing about the latest EA news is surprising, it's a good reminder that corporate greed is a relentless and destructive force. It's disheartening to see how it can rob us of the little joys and reprieves we find through art and creation, while all of us are trying to survive in this absolute shit show of a reality we're all in. When I see people making excuses for corporations that are using them, it makes me deeply sad. For many of us, it's getting difficult to keep enjoying something that has been so important in our lives for so long, because it serves as an escape. It makes us feel safe when everything around us reminds us that we are not. But it's important to stay true to ourselves.

I had to gather my thoughts before sharing them here. I love The Sims 4 dearly, and it's because I love it so much that I'm saying: no more. We all need to wake up. I do not support the Marketplace, and I strongly encourage you not to spend any money on this platform. Please. The Marketplace allows EA to profit even after The Sims 4 ends, all while exploiting the work of CC creators by having them produce professional assets without actually hiring them. It's a microtransaction scheme, and in the long run, I can assure you one thing: no one will benefit from it but EA.

I will continue playing the game with what I already own and using amazing CC and mods, and I hope players will find joy in playing the same way, without letting EA keep making us eat that damn Cowplant cake over and over again. The Sims community is beautiful, it's fun, colorful, artistic, and creative, and that's what our game is about. Yes, ours. Don't let EA define what The Sims 4 is for you: keep making it your own, stop giving EA your money.

Fuck EA.

Love you all 💜,

Lady C.

So glad to see my favorite creators (like you) reject Marketplace. I've been telling people to play in Offline Mode as often as possible. They're trying to keep all of us online as much as possible to cook the books on people's acceptance of their practices. Unless I'm actively using the Gallery (which has been so broken lately) I play in Offline.

The rich ruins everything they can touch... I am so happy to see that this stupid quick-money scheme is being looked at for what it is. Greedy and useless. Thank you truly <3

Agree. I've been battling with the fact that If I keep playing it will contribute to player numbers which is an important metric for them. I was worried that even playing offline would somehow contribute still but all my research says it doesn't. This is the way.

I think you've summed up exactly how i feel beautifully. "When the buyout was announced, I shared my decision not to buy new content after it goes through later this year"..... I feel this!!! I'm ashamed to say I did buy the Royalty pack thinking "last thing i buy" and I meant it (it's a feature I've been wanting forever) but I feel a bit stupid also. What's done is done and I can't undo it now but moving forwards, I'm happy to support CC creators and i will keep playing (In offline mode where possible) but I won't touch the marketplace with a barge pole. I never did with the Sims 3, and I won't now.
