Hey Hatman, to clarify the Indian story. Firstly India is a melting pot of many different races, religions, cultures and languages.....so it's almost impossible to define what an Indian is. I am a Sikh and from Punjab which is a state in Northwest India and it used to be a separate kingdom back in the 19th century. Most people in India are Hindus but even they follow many different forms of Hinduism. With regards to the dowry, it is true that it is the bride's side that pay it, I think theoretically they're giving their daughter wealth as an act of love when entering her new family, however in reality it's the groom's family who receive and own the money. This is the reason why there is a big problem of female foeticide as poor families cannot afford to marry off their daughters. It is purely a cultural thing in my opinion and not religious. On a side note I think you should read into the 52 Hukams (commands) of Guru Gobind Singh, I think you'll find alot of commonality in Sikh philosophy. Cheers bro
