Changes on the horizon (Patreon)
Content
Hey Streetsquad! Wanted to check in and update you guys. If you’ve been our Patreon for over a year you might have seen our post about moving majority of our series to Patreon back then. Sadly for those who are not on Patreon, that time is near.
We started this journey back in 2016, while in university and it’s been an amazing couple years. We’ve gone through a lot since starting this channel and it’s crazy how our stories have changed and how far we’ve come. When we started this channel we had one show to keep up with, 16 & Pregnant. Then as the years went by we began to add new shows until we got to a point where we had so many shows that completing one season of one series, would take a year if not more. I think it was most noticeable to us when Season 2 of Almost Famous took more than a year and half to complete. Because as the the quality of our series got better as the years went by, so did the time it takes to create them. We don’t want that to change. We want to continue to create quality stories in the world of sims and take our time, but unfortunately this has had an effect on our YouTube algorithm and viewership.
I’m sure you’ve noticed our views have not been the same. We spend hours and hours and hours filming and putting sets together, clothes, finding CC, animations, writing, music, story building, brainstorming and so much more to pull these stories together, but these stories (ones that have been on our channel since the earlier years) aren’t as relevant to our new demographic of viewers. To spend so many hours creating something that not even 15% of our subscribers watch is disheartening. We want to put these stories on a platform and in a community of people that truly support these stories after all these years and understand what we go through to create them. Our community here has been such a breath of fresh air. You all are so supportive and honest. You give us constructive criticism and genuinely care about our characters and the stories we create. On YouTube, it is not always so positive and although you guys may not see it, we do. We see a lot.
When we started this channel we were just two sisters in university without any idea of where this could take us and the lowest of expectations. But now we’ve grown up, a lot has changed in our personal lives and after 6 years, simply put, we can’t afford to spend hours on our computers. It’s like people forget that we’re adults, with real lives and responsibilities and we’ve been attacked so many times for even having a Patreon. But you guys here, are the reason we have even survived the last couple years and the sole reason we could afford to continue this long. We know this will not be received well on YouTube. And we’ll have hundreds of people tell us we’re selfish and money hungry. But we’re just two girls trying to pay the bills while doing what we love. Simple as that.
We will be announcing this by either December ending or the beginning of the new year and we need your advice. What are some things you think we can say to help people understand why this change had to be made? If you weren’t a Patreon and saw this message on YouTube, what are some things you’d like to see in our message that would help you understand? We want to be conscious of the people who genuinely enjoy all of our series but can’t join us here. If you made it this far, thank you. We know it’s a long one. But…
We’ve also got some good news: We are going to give Split Love the ending it deserves. Part 1 of the two part special episode is coming soon to Patreon only. Hope you’re as excited as we are. Love you guys and thank you.
Much love,
Streetsimmer 💜
