The day of uploading this, I woke up feeling a strange mixture of melancholy and excitement. This is it, the last stop, and I'm not sure I'm ready for it. This has been, bar none, the largest project I've ever undertaken, and it's as much a part of me as anything now. It's been a hell of a ride, and better yet, it's not goodbye forever.

Thank you very much for this series. I really love the first Kingdom Hearts game, and it's the first one that got me to tear up at the end when the final cutscene plays and the reprise of simple and clean plays, and Kairi and Sora get separated again. I love the gameplay with all it's warts, and I love the story, characters, and themes before the whole thing expanded and kinda lost it's plot. KH2 is still amazing and I hope you cover it, but 1 will always have a special place in my heart and memory. I will always love this game and go back to now and again.

Only a few seconds in and I love how you say the first game feels grander. I was just thinking this today. If you’re lost or frustrated or confused, the maps feel bigger. Environments feel bigger when they’re coated in a haze of confusion. KH2 felt smaller because it was but also because it never confused you

I'm forever going to now see the opening voice as Ventus because it feels like what we got in the US matches up more to him than Mickey and Ven being there in Sora's heart makes it feel more natural for him to be speaking to Sora. Especially since how the heckie did MICKEY know SORA would be the one to close the door, unless he was accidentally overshooting Riku. As well, Simple and Clean makes a lot more sense when you realize Hikaru Utada has implied they're bisexual (the response to complaints about Tomodachi being "who said I was straight?").

I always thought that the house in those tight corridors near the end was from Ichabod Crane but I can't find a good shot of his house. I also thought you could see a reference to the Johnny Appleseed animation with all the apple trees, at one point. I assumed there were possibly references to parts of several Disney movies, including the musical compilations, and even Fantasia (considering Chernabog), so perhaps Grecian columns came from that as well. ...anyway, excellent finale to an amazing series. So, next is Chain of Memories or Kingdom Hearts II, right? Right?

I've actually looked into stuff like that, technically "Aros" and "BHK" referred to two different characters since it wasn't clear that they were the same person at the time. But this is just me looking it up after the fact since I was still only a year old when KH 1 came out.

This is so unrelated to the whole scope of this video and the project at large but you mentioned that you worked at Disney world and I just wanted to say that I ended my college program last week. I did not have means to play kingdom hearts there, WHICH WAS TOUGH CUZ DISNEY WAS EVERYWHERE, but during that time I found these videos. This (and regular pat I gotta admit) satiated my kingdom hearts need while working in Florida, so as this chapter comes to a close I just wanted to say THANK YOU for all this work. I’ve loved watching and can’t wait to play kh1 again this next week with all the new information to appreciate from you. I’ve LOVED this journey

I found your videos on youtube shortly after my dad passed & they truly where a godsend getting through that grief. I ended up binging the Mario Sunshine videos & the Sly Cooper ones but KH was one of the first PS2 games I had ever played & my dad had gotten my sister & I the strategy guide soon after. So KH has always held a special place in my heart. This has been a ride & your videos for KH were amazing. I've recommended them to many people. Thank you for your hard work & I look forward to whatever is next!!! If you are looking for a recommendation the Horizon series is a good one to deep dive into though it is open world & might be difficult in this format.

This has honestly been my favorite series on Youtube. KH1 was one of the first games I owned as a kid, and this series pushed me to play the original PS2 version again after 20 years. Thank you so much for all the work you've done. You've done the community so proud. You even taught me a multitude of things I had no idea about. The journey was a blast and I'm sad it's over, but I'm more than excited to see where you take us next.

So the thing about what Kingdom Hearts is, and why there is darkness and light. It IS simple. Right? "The greater the light, the deeper the shadow it casts." Without light, there is no darkness. With no darkness, there is no light. To say Kingdom Hearts is just light or just dark is incorrect, the universe, hearts, life, is both. This even plays really nice into Riku, who would go on to wield both forces and walk a true path between them.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't feeling a little emotional seeing this video series come to an end. You may not want to defend the boys not going home simply because they didn't want to, but I will: I think it fits neatly with the game's refrain about the power of the heart and the strength of will that comes with caring about others. In a similar way to how Beast found his way to Hollow Bastion, SDG wanted to find Riku and Mickey, so The World obliged with a way to get there - even if the specifics of where they all are isn't made clear until Chain of Memories.

This video, like the others, is excellent. Thank you for making this series, I'm always engrossed in the journey you take us on. I may be off base, but I interpreted the little slices of the prior worlds before Chernabog to be recreations based on what hearts were stolen by the Heartless, like the fellow in Traverse Town who gets his heart stolen in one of the starter cutscenes. It may be why the worlds are uncanny, almost right but not quite, and why 100 Acre Woods can be a true sanctuary as they only ever got the pages, not the hearts.

I've been playing these games since just after release, I can remember being in the living room with my little brother, with him watching me take on bosses and crank out multiple tries. I've always loved this series so much, I have a Disney sleeve because of my love of Kingdom Hearts. I decided to revisit the games recently and hit YouTube to see if I could find anybody going through it methodically, like I love to do and came upon your videos. What a monumental effort! This feels like THE definitive guide to KH1. On "Simple and Clean" I think the maturity of its English lyrics has suited the game perhaps better than originally intended. Most of this game's fans are now in their 20s or 30s and appreciate it for being able to bring them back to that childlike place - much like the narrator of the song yearns for.

2C, thank you. Thank you so so much. Here’s the cliche, but these games are a part of my childhood in a way that’s hard to properly describe, but you’ve captured it. There’s so much I want to say, but I’ll just say this. I just watched this last video with my two daughters in my lap. (It was a particularly long night with a newborn, the two year old is just a lovable toddler that views sleep as optional.) We watch Disney movies on repeat, and I can’t wait until I’m able to share the story of Kingdom Hearts with them properly. Thank you.

Just watched, amazing video, definitely made me tear up multiple times. That’s how I judge most media which is why I’ve stuck with kh for so long lol. I’ve always wished I had more friends who were just as into these mad games as I was. Watching your vids makes it feel like I do, not in a creepy parasocial way I swear. Btw I swear you are finding my list of most beloved games and just making vids about them. First found you through sunshine (my first ever game), then Sly (a game that got me through cancer) then KH (a game that adorns my walls in memorabilia, and cancer a second time lol). It’s wild, even seeing Korra in this video who is also on my walls. The fact we have similar taste makes me excited for any future game you cover. I still think that the combat will continue to deter me from actually playing it, but nobody has made me appreciate it as much as you have.
