I Hear The Sunspot - Episode 11

OK. But why are they acting like it has to be the end of everything? They still live in the same place, they can still hang out. Why didn't they just make a date for next weekend instead of parting ways? So weird. And we didn't need to invest 15 minutes in Maya's POV either. Classic penultimate episode shenanigans. We will get a happy ending.

They are so cute together ❤️. Y,all can still talk, don't ignore each other 😟🥹.

I find the writers' penultimate plot point about Taichi and Kohei's development ridiculous. This all or nothing choice is a tiresome BL trope, especially when they could easily continue to interact/develop. The long-suffering BL martyrs who sacrifice their own needs and happiness for some presumed selfless act on their love interest's behalf is arguably valid but a hackneyed BL narrative. We endured several episodes of that insufferable Maya only for these two to part [anyway] because they cannot manage their relationship productively. Like the 12th episode in too many BLs, it appears we will get a dreadful and unnecessary time jump and only one episode to enjoy Taichi and Kohei's coupling. The characters and the story deserved better.

Don’t skip it! I think getting a bit of Maya’s background is worthwhile. They don’t whitewash her as if everything she’s done is justified…

The all-or-nothing thing? Taichi simply doesn’t want to admit to himself how important Kohei is to him, even though he feels the relationship heavily. Kohei does seem ready to be part of a gay couple, so he’s trying to coax Taichi’s heart to the surface, without trying to *make* Taichi do anything. So, sometimes it takes losing something to make you realize how much you need it. That’s all this episode is setting up Taichi for, and it’s very sincerely and sweetly done.

Excellent episode… just not long enough (as what I’m really looking for here is the finale). Spoiler-free: I’ve now read through to the end of the fifth book in the series. Part of a previous episode that I thought was going off-manga was really just lifted from one of the following books, so they’re taking bits here and there from more than just the first two volumes. I think maybe this series is meant to cover up to the end of 5, because as of 6 there’s a major change coming, and while I haven’t read 6 yet, I do know that 6 through 9 are set up in a way that if this tv series is judged a success, we very well could get 6 through 9 adapted next. Anyway, if anyone is curious to read the manga series, they’re all good, but 5 is such a great volume that if you weren’t already totally happy (I was) it just hits you again and again with how well devised the whole Sunspot ecosystem is, and I definitely want to surf through it as long as it keeps coming.

Whats wif the whole not meeting again since he’s leaving college for work instead? Still can meet up in the evenings and weekends? Like normal ppl? Text? Call?

Now that I've seen the episode, I updated my initial post. I would have preferred a narrative of them maneuvering Kohei's hearing loss together or even a "them against an ableist world" theme would be more satisfying and interesting. If those themes appear in the manga's canon, most of us will never read to find out.

I feel like the storyline is losing focus. We'll see how they wrap this up.🤔

I love this show so much. I laughed when you reacted to maya. When she first showed up and you said I’m about to cut a bitch I cackled. I felt the same way. Hah. She’s been awful. Side note, if I were Taichi I’d immediately ask my bosses the next day what the chin symbol was that kohei did. T honey you like Kohei. Just hang out with him like you want to until you realize you’re totally in love dammit. I wish the series were longer

His mom was crying with Kohei over that last Bento. I nearly lost it right there. Miss these kids already.

I’ve been borrowing from the Toronto Public Library system via their Libby digital ebook service, which libraries all over North America subscribe to. You should check if your local library system includes access to Libby, and if it does then you may have access to hundreds or thousands of manga! If not, then the publisher of the Sunspot series is One Peace Books and you should be able to find a local distributor! All the best Kadyra!

I hated Maya perhaps more than any other obstructive female character in BL (and as a feminist I also hate my attachment to a genre which clings to this trope) but I will say that in the last episode she had a relatable moment. When she called Taichi pabo for not yet realizing his mutual love for Kohei I laughed and said right you are before catching myself. Loved this series! Could have stood either fewer scenes with her, or redeeming her much earlier.

As an actress she did an amazing job. That character had a knife and wasn’t afraid to use it.
