Moonlight Chicken - Episode 6.mp4

Vita

While it was harsh for Alan to ask Jim to go elsewhere for the loan. I think it truly was the best and most objective he is been so far. I appreciated how realistic they treated the situation between Jim and Beam’s gf. Two adults talking about healing without a ‘magical solution’ (like the finding of a letter / message to solve the questions - I was a bit skeptical when they talked about going to his FB I was like ‘not surprising love letter discovery) As in real life, sometimes we are left without a response or apology, and we need to still forgive and overcome for our own sake.

This was another good episode. My heart broke for Gaipa even though I was a little annoyed everytime he went for it with Jim. I'm not saying he shouldn't have, but it was clear to me that Jim would get closer to Wen instead. I agree with the comment above that Alan's response to Jim about the loan was mean, but I also see it as honest and realistic. Very happy for Jim to have gotten closure about Beam and their past relationship, (with Wen beside him and supporting him), but am a little confused as to why LiMeng being gay is brought up in a manner that shows Jim upset. Even though Alan is his past, I think it shows great character and dignity on Wen's part ( and Jim) to step up and take care of him. Hopefully this won't set Jim and Wen back since we see them together still next week. I'm going to seriously miss this series. It was so well done so far with so much story and depth to these characters. As a MSP fan as well, I hope to see a better kiss for Tinn and Gun!! Just my opinion!!! Enjoyed the reaction!!

This is why I do try not to watch the next episode preview cause it rarely matches what’s actually shown and it def will ruin the surprise for the next ep. I made the mistake of seeing next weeks preview before sitting down to watch the ep and I already knew it was going to makes some folks upset. Especially the folks who already didn't like Jim Ooh...I watched the episdode and I think the preview is a misdirect I bet. I mean there is a reason why Jim is raising his nephew and his mother is not...did Jim mention something about his sister possibly being homophobic?

nellybell47

BTW, I really dont' trust the sister. I need to know where she's been and why she left Li Ming with Jim...I think the preview is becasue he knows his sister might now be as supportive of Li Meng as she should be.

nellybell47

I have a problem with Gong calling Wen for Alan...I mean isn't he the one who told Wen to cut the cord with Alan...like Alan don't have no family?

nellybell47

Aside from the next preview, it was a really good episode. I'm def glad Jim had some growth and was able to get some closure. Next week though, the sister just already seems sus. I mean Li Meng didn't look happy to see his mother. What she do???? I appreciate how honest Jim was with Gaipa and that he didn't use Gaipa for the loan. I even appreciate Alan for being honest and recommending another bank for Jim. That's pretty professional. All in all a great episode...that preview though...woof.

someone mentioned something and it made me think...Jim is supposed to be "almost 40" as much as I love my Earth/Mix, I wonder if they had cast who was actually closer to the age Jim is supposed to be if the reaction to Jim would be different...I mean no matter how they change his hair Earth is an entire decade younger than 40. Jim is supposed to be older, seasoned, and much much older than any of the other guys. I think it was was an older actor playing Jim. so much of what Jim says and does in regards to Li Meng and even Wen would have a more "geneational gap" feel. Earth and Mix are what only 4-5 years apart, and Mix is only 7 years olde than Fourth/Gemini. the dialogue between Jim and Li Meng would hit differently right? Anyway, I love me some Earth/Mix though so I'm loving the series anyway.

Where to begin? I was waiting for a comment that, in the confrontation between Jim and Beam at the pier, Jim was being rudely demanding of Beam as to who is his "friend" and why does Beam leave every weekend. This confrontation had a little physical contact as well. Sound familiar? At the pier, Jim is "Alan" and Beam is "Wen". Yet, it was Alan they came out who came out the worst of it in comments. If I am correct, it was ingenious of the writers to put this subtlety in the script. As with Alan really loving Wen, Jim really loved Beam. My personal opinion is, and here it goes, to really enjoy this series we have to divorce ourselves from our love of Earth/Mix. They aren't Earth and Mix, they are Jim and Wen.

Vita

I think the concern that Jim has about JiMing being gay… comes from also portraying the age gap. Jim’ character being older has suffered a different reality of being poor and gay in Thailand. And while erring in the manner, I see him as trying to avoid JM from having his same hardships in life. Even being away from his own family and ‘hidden’ from his partners life.

I agree with Vita, older generations who have suffered and struggled a lot because of X, Y, and Z typically react in the same way that Jim does because all they see are their struggles and don’t want the younger generation to have to go through that. Specifically in this case, I think Jim is still struggling with both his sexuality and his financial burdens and doesn’t want Li Ming to struggle alongside him. However, his reaction is still going to hurt Li Ming cause this is the one person who should be the most supportive and understanding.

TitaJosie

Yes, Jim did say that previously. We'll see how everything turns out when Li Ming's mother shows up! 👀😬

TitaJosie

Also, why is Jim taking care of all of Li Ming's expenses when his mother is still alive? Hmmm. 🤔

TitaJosie

They haven't really told us the back story of Alan's family. My guess is that like Wen, he's not from Pattaya either. 🤔

TitaJosie

Yeah I had to look up how old Earth is too, and he's a bit young to be playing someone close to his 40s. Still love him though. 💖

lol..lordt.. at this point I wish they never released that preview...LOL so many folks still ranting about it...LOL I still think it's gonna be a bit of a headfake with more context, but then again, if it's not I guess I'll think about it in terms of how this series seems to go for more realism when portraying many issues (like classicm, poverty, relationship, love, etc) and knowing that Jim's character is supposed to be closer to 40. As a gay man from a different less tolerant generation in a country that even today isn't as tolerant as other Asia countries when it comes to LGBTQ rights (BL genre mecca or not but correct me if I'm wrong about Thailand not being as progressive on LGTBQ rights as other Asian countries) and I could see him as somone with internalized trauma that he doesn't want to see his nephew experience the same things and Jim being Jim just doesn't say it well or even use the right words to express that concern without sounding hypocritical or rude. I still think it's a fake out (probably something to do with Li Ming's mother coming into the picture), whatever the case, I'll wait until the next ep before judging Jim, as proven by the whole Wen/Alan situation, this series seems to really embrace nuance/context. Can't wait until next ep
