Fuck me this took a while. I said this chapter was going to wrap up EVERYTHING in its arc, but looks like there is one more to go.

VietDom

Wait is this the last chapter?! Or did you mean for the current arc? Also thank you once again for the amazing story, please make sure to also take care of your health.

Fuggmann

The arc. My bad. Corrected to avoid confusion.

VietDom

👍 all good, please have a wonderful day, I know you have made my day 😁

WirelessGrapes

I was concerned with Brendan's characterization in the prior chapter, and all my concerns are gone, that was banger. I really did like how you threw in Brendan's extreme deferrence to Maxie in the previous chapter to lay the seeds of it being too out of character. And it still came across just how conflicted he still was

(K) KaurisAzurai

Behold! The chapter has arrived! And it was COMPLETELY worth the wait. Loved every bit of this.

smoze

The only problem with a REALLY good chapter is that it requires the next one to be written too. Thanks for the update Fuggmann, i'm glad you took the time to make this chapter what it is an I'll be looking forward to the next one when you get around to it :D

BEHOLD, A FUGGMAN CHAPTER OF HIGHEST QUALITY! A phenomenal chapter written by our favourite bee, the wait was absolutely worth it! Now, for some analysis- Its utterly confirmed, Brendan is an absolute gigachad with his fathers keen savant skills for battling and immeasurable loyalty to those he cares for. Before this chapter, I think his demeaner from gleaning POV's written from his perspective would give the impression to other readers that he was somewhat like a dog - a growlith perhaps. Constantly lapping for love and attention, able to do some interesting tricks (battling gym leaders and strategy, for instance.) But easily tricked and gullible to the wider world. But here? His true nature is an Arcanine, a boiling pot of pure passion, an inferno of energy - and deep within, a settled wisdom that could be passed by from outside observers. He PLANNED his entire "betrayal", he pushed his emotions aside to his friends to appear that he got suckered in to Magmas honey pot (and in some ways, he was, up till he heard of Groudon.) He battled his resentment to himself about lovinf Courtney, and formed a plan to smash their machine, duke it out Doomslayer style, and return to the main fight like a blitzkrieging Beedrill on crack. And dont forget his team! Marshstomp being MVP as usual, utterly smashing his way through every opponent with minimal injury. Mawille really lives up to her Fae nature, "the enemy cannon predict you if you cannot predict yourself" as the old adverb go, she even suprised her main trainer in actions! Breloom being a good support in mopping up the lessers, and helping distract Maxxies Camerupt. And speaking of Maxie, man he is *genuinly* evil. Not just a pragmatic "robotic" bastard, but has deep welled emotions that insinuate that he is a bastard of a narcassist. His constant smirk throughout the fight shows he viewed it no more than fun pest control, and unfortunately he absolutely has the claims to back that up. And Camerupt, man I never felt more sorry for a Pokemon before. The poor sod is trapped endlessly within their own mind, certainly thanks to Claydol putting their higher functions either into a paradise box, or sensory deprivation chamber (and knowing what Maxie is, its likely the latter for "efficiency"). Camerupt is no more than a primal ball of utter wrath sent upon opponents without any regard for battle etiquette or Pokemon and Human Rights. I bet the reason Camerupt wasnt sent after our gang with orders to kill to begin was because Maxie wanted to 'enjoy himself'. But more importantly, the description of mega-evolution was a vivid as it was horrifying. Man, Maxie isnt fucking around, he came packing his champion level team from the getgo. But I do have a question, *how* can Camerupt mega-evolve? From what I know, ME is a process that requires a BOND to exist between player and Pokemon, some commanlity and love, definetly to a high and passionate extent. Maxie, here, likely doesnt love anything but himself, and any external love is utterly pragmatical and a face he puts on, feeling nothing but cold inside. I have a theory, and its a terrifying and horrible one, and that is that Maxies Claydol PILOTS Camerupt, only letting its Rage in as a way to 'enhance' the poor chaps broken power. Like some fucked up steroid booster. Every other time, or action, Claydol strings him along like a meat puppet. The ME only happened because Claydon put full control for a brief period to 'activate' the process, then stepped away and let Camerupts rage back to bolster them during the ME process. The scream of pain? Since Camerupt likely has deep rooted contempt for Maxie, this was Camerupts attempt to stop it, but it wouldnt happen. Claydol made sure of it, and each flailing attwmpt to stop the attempt only bolstered the process. This only served to help Maxie, as in the end of pain makes way for wrath, and thus easier to sic it on those he deemed as vermin. And our boy Corviquire! Or should I do say CorviKNIGHT! From a rage filled hateball of sharp feathers to a tuned knights edge, his anger is now cold and internally burning with the temper of the Sun. While I honestly doubt he will actually damage Camerupt in the long run, I dont think he needs to - surely help would be on its way, all Corvi needs to do is to hold out for long enough. God this chapter was a blast, I literally cannot put to words how much exhilleration I am feeling. Thank you Fuggman, hell might just rejoin the Discord to gush abt this like AAAAAAAAAAAAA.

OpN

You can really feel the dread and hopelessness in this chapter, amazing

BlainX

Thanks for the Chapter! To be fair....I do not really see how the situation changes. New as he is to his form. Something like speed against Artillery and Defence? Breaking of Claydols influence? Focused Anger as a Deus Ex Machina?. I tried not to spoiler but I hope it is still understandable.

Russell Todd

Yeah I think we’re gonna have to put our hopes in the water psycho’s arrival giving them room to escape. Archie can match Maxie, which is also horrifying now that we’ve seen what that means, and might even have an edge considering his team will be fresh and should enjoy a type advantage. Archie may actually go out of his way to let them escape because they’ve obviously pissed off Maxie enough for him to mega evolve and go for the kill. He could do it out of an appreciation for anyone that is ruining Maxie’s day or just to frustrate Maxie further lol.

BlissForgotten

If you read Born of Desire as well(the other pokemon fanfic by fuggmann) it hints that mega-evolution can happen without the bond, but it's results for the pokemon in question will not be "pretty." Idk about anyone else, but I don't think that mega-evolution was "pretty" in the least.

Planetace

Fair point, but BoD is set in a universe that follows shonen tropes. Meanwhile BoC is taking a very realistic approach to Pokemon - minus all of the magic critters, Creation mythos, and Continent shakint Legendaries. Also the idea of Camerupt being a wrathful sack of lobotimised meat, lead by a Claygon, is more interesting than it just happening through brute force.

S. Nutter

Nevermore, indeed!

Planetace

It'd be interesting if Archie is the lesser of two evils here. Maxie has shown to be a ruthless, naracassistic and remorsless son of a cunt. It's be hilarious if Archie is a foil to that. Opposite of logical - utterly deranged and self deluded himself into "saving the Earth from the whims of humanity". But at the same time, actually earned the trust and respect from both his Men and Pokemon without stooping to psychic lobotimisation and brain rewiring. And could even be humble (in a madmans/pirates way) in opposition to Maxies narcassism. All the while completely petty and willing to team up with law enforcement if it means one-upping his arch-nemesis, just for shits and giggles.

Russell Todd

Well after this, I think Lee will be able to convince the heavy weights to get serious. Steven and Birch at least should be able to be convinced, especially if Ninetails can share what she experienced with them or Metagross/Medicham. Having full confirmation of mega evolution capability, willingness to murder, and intent to awaken primordial legendaries has to be a game changer. Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if Steven is able to call in other champions for a threat on this scale. Birch might also alert Oak. Having the real powerhouses take over would also allow lee’s team to continue their league journey while cautiously disrupting Magma/Aqua plans.

Russell Todd

Other avenues of aid could be convincing Ash to beseech aid from legendaries he’s encountered before as they’d have a vested interest in preventing this. Or they could give 0 shits and claim that’s rayquazas jurisdiction. Or they could be completely unphased as that’s just nature taking its course; the Pokémon world has seen catastrophic change before and it will again.

Leander

Claydol is puppeting Camerupt isn‘t it? Maxie would otherwise never have the bonding prerequisites for it to ever work. That would also neatly explain camerupts pain during the mega evo and it‘s emotionlessness.

MooMoo195

Good chappie, I can see why it was so hard to get right

Planetace

Exactly my thoughts and theories - ME wouldnt have worked if not fot claygon pulling thr strings to force it into action, and Camerupts pain is from the actual conciousness of Cammie fighting against it.

BelligerentGnu

Oh thank gods, BRENDAN STAYS SMART! *dances* How long for the rest of it? That didn't feel like 12000 words. Edit: Nevermind, the page didn't load properly, it literally wasn't 12000 words! Holy shit, that was amazing! I could have sworn this was when Shelgon was going to evolve, but Corvi is so damned cool!

PXRB

Holy shit i am POPPING OFF I love the way you write it’s so expressive and just I have no way to express my joy at this chapter even if it actually made me real life anxious

MrPerson0

Glad to see Brendan finally get his head game, and man, what a way to end the chapter! Will be interesting to see how the newly evolved Pokemon will save them, seeing that he gained a weakness against the monster.

HEm107m739

Well, he only really needs to buy time for Aqua to sweep through the now defeated Magma grunts luckily. Otherwise, I don't really see how it would change anything. Plus, Maxie has 5 more Pokemon just as strong as this one, makes me wonder how strong the protagonists will get by the end of the story if this is the ceiling.

MegaZeroX

Yeah I called Brenden was going to double cross magma though I assumed he was playing the long game

Rorandes

Nice touch with the quote at the end. I see what you did there. ;)

Devin

The only way I think corvi could have a chance here is if claydol's puppeting is just making camerupt SEEM ultra tanky, and camerupt is actually fighting on broken ribs and internal bleeding or some other sever injury from any of the earlier exchanges. Either that or he somehow disrupts the mind control, potentially by distracting/attacking claydol, which I guess would also be plausible

Russell Todd

I mean, if he uses extreme speed that’s 170+ pounds of sharp metal moving faster than the speed of sound straight at whatever corvi considers is its weakest point. I’d say that’s a pretty strong alpha strike.

Russell Todd

But I do like the point you make that camerupt may have injuries that claydol is making it ignore.

Russell Todd

If Lee and co are gonna start seeing more of this type of combat, I think he needs to prioritize getting a ground/rock type that is good at shaping the battlefield. Being able to make barriers, bunkers, and favorable terrain could be a real force multiplier. Though I admit it feels like he already has plenty to work on with his main four.

Russell Todd

If he sticks with his main four for a while, setup moves would be incredible. Imagine Corvi stacking swords dance.

M0och

This was fantastic! Definitely worth the wait
