I was asked what direction I would go in if I did a totally self-indulgent power wank story. After giving it some thought, I decided this is how I would take it. Like the worst powerwanks out there, it's set in Highschool DxD.

Euh.This one-off is Read Only and will be posted in around later todayIn other news, the new chapter of Dark Tidings is almost done. Expect that in another day or two. After that is another Borne of Desire.

Uhh, boy is it well written. I'm not the type to read stories that start with a person deciding where to reincarnate or talking from the beginning to a being that may be considered superior ( like a system or god or not ). But here he talks about a mc who takes seriously his situation of being in a world without ethics ( because he is ), and goes for a course in armaments without wasting a moment. But I have to ask if by self-indulgent you include what many writers decide to put when they isekaire a mc in a world of "erotica," I am of the opinion that that kills all forms of good writing. I have to admit that I am traumatized by all the Harems and even romantic relationships that have been written, I can't stand them anymore, authors at the beginning can write even superb but then when they start introducing love interests it simply feels like reading another story, where before there was adventure and a desire to discover the world everything simply loses coherence and falls out of the background...

Fuggmann

Harems are trash 99.9% of the time tbh. No one knows how to balance a relationship like that. Also, more than one waifu = ruin your laifu.

TheTerminus

I am shedding tears of serenity at reading this, finally seeing a man of culture. Thank you for the enlightening reply!

Replying to Fuggs comment, i thought the Fimbulwinter series by E William Brown did an awesome job of both the OP MC and the harem tropes. Maybe check that series out if you feel like it.

And then he fucking died because of a terrible life force required that doesn't get better. Because it's still a shit power, but it's a shit power in a universe where all such powers are OP as shit. Lmao. In all seriousness, good chance he can train the life force thing and have that not be a problem, either. The question is how to get to ultimate cosmic power, since golems are golems, not reality warpers. Might need to become a golem cyborg, and maybe there's balance breaker and other similar stuff you can access.

I feel like there's many DxD fanfic SIs which just completely ignore any harem stuff and just explore the universe and world building instead. So I'm actually often super fine reading them, because they're not harem garbage. They just exist in a world where the original "fic" was. And where it's possible to avoid it. It's just that everyone is extreme personalities. I highly recommend the fic Bootstrapping, where the character doesn't actually have anything, Sacred Gear or otherwise, but then wants to learn enough magic from this bs universe to hop to a different universe. Because the way the way the DxD universe can treat women can be a bit scary and she just wants to leave. She eventually succeeds, because it's one of those universe jumping multicross fics. It's extremely well written, though it's been on a bit of a hiatus, though it might come back soon.

TheTerminus

I'm not a super fan of jump multricross fanfic, there are a thousand reasons why this type of series doesn't super resonate with me, but it's not on my "black" list like harems ( let them burn at the stake! ), I usually just read the first universe and then after the second jump I consider it mentally finished, it's complicated but since you recommended it I'll see it! Ps. Do you know another fic like this type that isn’t jump multicross?

TheTerminus

The summary of the book says to read at your own peril, not giving me much confidence bro.

Rorandes

I’ve never heard of DxD. lol Fun concept here.

James Redmond

Yup, both in fiction and in reality - I don't think I can name one harem group (I.e. some nobleman/woman and a bunch of concubines/wives or husbands) in history that *didn't* go down in flames at some point.

Replaying to one PE 1 comment, well if you are discouraged by a content warning then don’t read it man.
