BoC is back with Act 2: Interlude 4. Real chapter in the next few days. Due to me being busy tomorrow, this probably won't be public until the 5th.

As roses grow from ashes, so too does hope and victory grow from the endless gloom. The newborn light of the dawn tastes all the sweeter on the tongue of the beaten hero.

Personally, I love the gloomy/dark atmosphere of this series. Its, among others, one of the main reasons why I think it makes your story so special. Pokemon is rarely combined with serious and scary topics. Keep it up in my opinion :)

Hey, man, thanks for getting this up before the 4th. Assuming you’re American, have a fun day/night tomorrow!

Haven't even started reading yet but saw this post and fully agree......I'd hate to be in a dark alley with that pokemon right now.

Boy how dark this chapter is! The fact that Claydol is using many Baltoy as living energy charges is very stressful, I think the league will have to add a new line to the check-list of crimes done by magma team. This chapter is incredibly beautiful thank you, the depth of worldbuilding and the characters are what make me deeply enjoy this series. The Cinibar incident is related to this story, oh boy, will we see a pissed off Mewtwo again? A drug that takes away your free will, I'm not surprised if a legendary Pokemon comes down a second later to bludgeon them to death!

Russell Todd

Agreed, so long as that isn’t the only mood. The Pokémon universe is a surprisingly deep setting but is almost exclusively handled with literal kid gloves. A rational look at the light and dark inherent to the setting is absurdly compelling

Further explanation of Maxie’s min-maxing techniques is super interesting. It also leads me to think that he’s very vulnerable to ambushes that deny him the chance to prepare and control the fight. With Archie having seen some of this, I think Aqua just became the more dangerous organization because I don’t think Maxie is a match for an Archie that knows his tricks.

this a powerful chapter in its impact and world building

So if this a world where Teams are serious business, then i wonder how successful Team Rocket, Team Flare, or Team Galactic are right now. Team Magma and Team Aqua were always small time in their goals by comparison to those organizations, so ones gotta wonder if they are poised to take over the world, or destroy it atm.

This whole thing reminds me of the comic strip that has Groudon standing on a tiny island and yelling at the sky. All while Kyogre is just staring at him from the ocean while it’s raining.

Actually there are a bunch that are just as dark or even darker than this one but I agree: this story is particularly well balanced into a far more realistic and mature way than the usual kiddy gloved telling. Just the starting of it gives you an idea of how serious the world ending could be with the nuclear attack and I loved it.
