Heya.

We've been sailing bullshit free since the last release, and this one is coming along fantastic. This chapter of Borne of Caution is at 4k words as of today, and I expect it to be ready in the next 3-4 days. After that is another Borne of Caution.

Also, I've been dabbling in stable diffusion a bit during the last week (Big thanks to Arca in the discord server for the quick-start rundown). It's an interesting, if finicky thing. Most of what I generate is clumsy and kinda bad, but a few decent things have popped up like the attached pic. (Call the picture sus if you must. I admit the program really wants to spit out porn, so I added "Safe for work" to make it clean up results) If I can get good enough, then my stories going forward might have the occasional illustration to go with them. Anything I make won't be as good as actual art, and I don't want a bad image or debates about AI images to sour a chapter, so it's all a big "maybe".

Let's GOOOO! If you do put images on your story, would you put them behind spoiler tags? It makes it a lot easier to read.

Oh jeez. This image is bit too much on the furry side. Definitely cursed. If you do get it to generate a Ninetales... That would be amazing. Even if slightly furry. Just not too furry, like this one. Can't wait for the update!

Im not going to debate ethica or morality, but using stable diffusion for illustrations will never beat actual commisioned art.

The popular models can't do a good Ninetales, so I had to find a furry one and add "safe for work" to the parameters. The results are mixed, but okay enough.

You think this looks sexual? You should see what happened when I tried to make a Lucario without "safe for work" in the parameters. It spits out the most raunchy stuff it can.

I agree and actually think it's fine as a stopgap. If I recall Docnox used to do something similar for his fanfic and it added a lot to the atmosphere just having the pictures for reference.

please dont. i get that my dislike for character art puts me in the small minority so i just ignore it normally, but wish dot com ninetales is just a step to far. we already have so much pokemon art i dont see anyway the ai art isnt going to be bad. so pleeeeeeeeeeease dont.

I salute your sacrifice! Btw, what's your stance on Lee x Ninetales? I honestly can't tell what direction you're going as you stray the line quite well. I'll be fine either way as you'll make it great with the writing.

I can't wait to see Zinnia and Brendan showed visually! It'll help visualize them. I know we have official visuals of Zinnia, but it feels different from how Zinnia is described a bit, I think. Or is there already fan art of them?

Personally I feel like Fuggs work doesnt NEED illustrations, and spark uneeded controversy. Best leave it to unofficial posts or on QQ as a 'heres some images I think help visualise what I had in mind' while not putting them into official chapters.

Depends. This is all still up in the air. Even if I do improve with the image generator, I might still decide not to include images. We might put it to a poll.

It's slightly sus but it's almost a good sacrifice for the intelligent look. Perhaps your could attempt to use realism tags in conjunction with cartoony tags to add more of a separation between the uncanny sus and the fierce and beautiful. Perhaps think about it in terms of how the program thinks about it? "Blank look" or "unfiitting expression" might help- depending on what you're going for. Idk though I've never messed with stable diffusion. Also "epic" and or "mythical" and "mysterious" Idrk though just throwing thoughts out there.

Another vote against AI illustrations here. Its best purpose is to help visualize characters beyond whatever basic traits the author gives us, but everyone aside from Lee has official art already. Trying to recreate specific scenes and so on with prompts will 99% of the time just be jarring and immersion breaking, if not outright comical.

Here to put my two cents in with my dislike for AI art. I personally would be sad to see it included in the stories. Your writing is good enough to stand on its own! :)

The art is nice but i never thought your stories were missing something without art, however the occasional piece may be nice. Just need to take care as i've seen too many horrifying ai art used in adds that clearly didnt have a human check before use.

Personally, there's little exciting about AI art. Something made by a real person was made through deliberate choices, and that is what makes it great to see new art of characters you love; new ideas and a new interpretation. That said, I'm neutral on the subject. Commissioned art would just be cool to see(albeit expensive, of course).

I know I've enjoyed finding artwork when reading fiction, though it remains up to you. Probably a good idea to set up a poll if you want to take the temperature, so to speak?

Couple people have been asking if you’re alive or ok and while i’m sure 99% of people would be asking that at least partly out of genuine concern i imagine it probably sounds impatient, so just as a reminder remember that you’re in the driver’s seat and should work at your own pace!
