And we've had so many requests from Kiwis (some of them quite desperate) to make an Honest NZ Government Ad for them, that I decided we should help them out. But nothing prepared me for how bad things are in NZ right now. And when I visited Auckland last month (my first time in Aotearoa), I was struck by how little we, here in Australia, know about what's happening across the ditch. And vice-versa, too. This is a problem. Coz fighting shitfuckery domestically is all well and good, but unless we're planning to play wack-a-mole for the decades to come, we need to do so internationally, too.Because if the only option left is to emigrate to some "better place" - as Kiwis are currently doing in unprecedented numbers - soon there will be nowhere "better" to emigrate to.And nowehere is this more evident than in the case of New Zealand, which so many people - myself included - have long imagined to be a haven of nature and democracy in the unfolding climate crisis.
