Scene change 2026 (Patreon)

Dear Patrons
This update comes to you from the middle of the Nullarbor Plain!
What are we doing in this beautiful, desolate Mad-Max landscape, you ask? Good question.
We’re halfway through a 3,500km family roadtrip from Melbourne to Western Australia for the final week of the school holidays.
But it’s not just a roadtrip. A couple of weeks ago, we decided to relocate to Western Australia.
We’ve always wanted to experience life out of the city. So when, at the start of January, we were offered a place to stay in a small coastal town in the beautiful south-west of WA, we took it as a sign.
We enrolled Luca and Juno in a local school there, and packed up the Juice studio—green screen, camera, mic, lights, computer—along with the kids' bicycles, boogie boards and teddy bears; loaded them onto a trailer, and hit the road (before we changed our minds!)
The 5 day journey is taking us via Adelaide, Streaky Bay, across the Nullarbor, past the Great Australian Bite; and should get us to our destination just in time for the first day of school.
Sure, 3,500km is a long way from home; but we thought the change of scene would be good.
We noticed how city life, with all it's bright screens, memes and videogames, has started to shape our kids' life and interests. And before we lost them to those bright, loud lights, we wanted them to have others experiences, closer to nature and community.
Lucy has also been feeling the need to be closer to her ageing mother, who lives in Perth.
So we thought we'd give it a try for Term 1. If things go well, we might stay longer. If not, we’ll make the epic Fury Road drive back to Melbourne. Either way, it will be an experience.
As for our Juice Media work: fear not, we'll continue to cover the shitfuckery as always.
We've always had a vision of being able to work on the road, so we've brought all our film gear with us so that we can keep making Honest Government Ads.
I also see this as an opportunity to experiment with new ways of working. It feels like the shitfuckery in the world has shifted gears, so a change of pace might be in order for us, too.
We'll see. The wide open roads and distant horizons of this long drive have been a great way to ponder such things.
(Maybe some of you have also been feeling the need for a change of scene or pace. In which case, I hope this speaks to you, too.)
We'll catch you soon with our February video. (And hope you caught our cheeky January video about the Santoss Tour Down Under.)
Until then, take care!
