Honest Government Ad | Ai Data Centres(And here's the Instagram version)The Ai data centre frenzy / hype / bullshit is taking over the world; yet another example of how much of the fuckery we're seeing today is caused or exarcerbated by the rising broligarchy.Which of course makes it a perfect topic for another international Government™ HGA. As you probably know, I try to avoid topics that are already getting lots of news coverage. The "Data Centre boom" is certainly one of those topics. However, there has not been enough attention given to the relationship between Big Tech and Big Gas.Because let's not forget, this data centre story unfolding against the backdrop of a spiraling climate crisis. Half of Europe is on fire, so is Canada; and a monstruous El Niño is on the way. (Check out Dave Borlace's terrifying video about this).Which is why the fact that so many of these new data-centres are going to be powered by fossil-gas in Australia, the US, Canada, UK and Europe, is a massive concern. Not just for these countries but for the whole world. And that's why I decided to focus this HGA on shining a light on the unholy marriage forming between the Ai and gas industries; and specifically on Data Centres Australia: the new (and until now, little-known) lobby group that's been formed to broker it in Australia. If you'd like to dig into this more, I highly recommend reading the Energy Vampires report by Ketan Joshi and Greenpeace, which informed a lot of this HGA. Most importantly: if you are concerned about what's happening, remember that millions of other people are, too. In what is the clear silver lining in this shitshow, people everywhere - from London to Perth, Texas to Vancouver - are coming together to say No (or, in Australia, Nauwr). So if you want to do something about it, now's the time to join or form a community group to call on local/state/federal governments to impose a data centre moratorium, until proper legislation and regulations are put in place.
