Dear Patrons,When I posted the last video on Monday I said I would try my very best to get one more Honest Government Ad done before the election. And look at me here on Saturday, with another Preview to share with you all. (Don't worry about me, I'll get some sleep after we've gotten rid of this Government this time next week.)I'll be editing madly over the weekend to get this HGA out asap, so I'll keep this brief - other than to say this might be the most important and valuable election video we've made.

Coz unlike the US and UK, which have a first-past-the-post electoral system (where your vote is thrown in the bin if your first choice is eliminated), here in Australia we have a Preferential system - which allows you to vote for whoever you want. Imagine that! There's a catch though. You have to know about the system in order to use it! And unfortunately most people don't know about Preferential Voting. Which is why I decided I had to make a video about it.This is also one of the top-requested topics via the Advisory Board, so I'm stoked that many of your wanted us to raise awareness about this issue.I hope you enjoy this bonus, post-season-finale Honest Government Ad.Thank you for making this work possible with your patronage - and I'll catch you again early in the final election week with the video!GiordanoPS. if you have good ideas for the Authorised By message, lmk in the comments (try to avoid using the word "shit" tho given it's abundance in the script!)

"unfortunately most people don't know about Preferential Voting" i can't understand how anyone can not know this, but it does seem to be the case, so yes, a very important topic.

Tony Marshall

Important to get this out asap because more and more people are pre poll voting. Great work

Param Berg

Department of Forced Confessions ? Good on yer anyway, just in time! ;-)

Walid Karroum

Definitely know about preferential voting, but as you guys have clearly made note, not many of us do...So it seems so pointless and fucking frustrating to even vote for independents. Gaaaaaaahhhh the sheeple are in a lifelong coma!

T

Wow, I am so going to bookmark this video and use it as a standard reply.

"The Department for ignoring what voters want"?

Nick Quinn

another good reason to vote informal :)

Omg one more before the election! You’re on fire. Thank you 😊

Oh my God, you guys are certainly earning a break for all the effort you've put in over the last weeks. Hmmm, Authorised by the Ministry of Consensual Defecation? I so wanted to pay homage to the gloriously manic TISM, 'Defecate on my face' but couldn't work it :(

Cara

Love it as always 🙂.

Neville Fryar

I really don’t understand what you’re trying to achieve.

Neville Fryar

A lot of publicity is given to the preference deals of the parties. IMO while the preference deals can reveal the actual morals/ integrity of various parties the actual outcomes from the deals is very hard to quantify.

Neil Bryant

Thanks guys - Democracy, the best of the worst. I will continue to fund the attack on windmills, why be unhappy as well?

SALLY WARMINGTON

Go the non-shit candidates! Excellent work TJM team!! 😊

Interesting stuff. Believe me, as an expat American with Australian Citizenship I'm impressed with the freedom of choice and the potential in preferential voting. And the more people understand how it works the better it can work. It's a big task trying to break through the narrow fuckwittery pummelled at us from mainstream media and the whole Morrison vs Shorten bullshit that attempts to direct us into the personality politics like they do in the USA. The Greens and Independents are not only underfunded but have to push the shit rolled down on them from the corporate media back uphill. It ain't easy. Still, "shit lite" has at least presented us with policies and have presented themselves as a team...while the government has showered us in bullshit and locked their team in the closet with the skeletons we haven't found out about yet.

thejuicemedia

Am hoping this one will remain relevant for some time to come

thejuicemedia

God yes we're looking forward to a little break after the election!

thejuicemedia

Trying to help people understand how to vote in a 46th Parliament that will take stronger action on climate emergency we face

thejuicemedia

How parties choose to preference is another issue, albeit an important one. It applies mainly to the Senate, as in the Lower House ballot (which is used as the example in this video) voters must number all the boxes

Oh this is good, sadly i cant air it, as the embargo commences as most stations broadcast over the weekend. Huge thumbs up, thisone is fantastic, when released it will be shared to the hot 30 with Matty facebook page only.

Neville Fryar

A first preference vote for a party not the big two, and a second preference for one of the big two , does not necessarily mean your second preference vote is counted. Your second preference is only counted if “lesser” minor party distributions don’t result in a majority count. Advice to”vote for a minor party because your second preference will be counted in event your minor party doesn’t get up” is simplistic and may not help voters achieve their overall objective of getting the best practical outcome. Thoughtful choices are required.

Peter Todd

I see what you did there :)

Iwan Boskamp

Nevillem I fail to follow you on this one mate. If your first preference vote ends up to be excluded because that candidate did not get over the 50% line somewhere in the count, then your second vote will kick in. If that candidate is also excluded your third vote will count etc etc until one candidate scores 50%+

Iwan Boskamp

Even in the senate group tickets have been abolished (at least in WA) and you just number the parties in your preferred order (minimum 6 of them)

Neville Fryar

“If your first preference vote ends up to be excluded because that candidate did not get over the 50% line somewhere in the count, then your second vote will kick in” is incorrect. If no candidate achieves a majority in the first round the candidate either least votes os excluded and their second preferences are distributed. And so on, until a candidate achieves a majority. Please visit AEC site for explanation of preferential voting , something I suspect, most voters never do.

Iwan Boskamp

Yes, that is exactly what I said, as soon as your first preference candidate gets excluded (and therefore will never get over the 50% line) your second preferred candidate will get your vote etc. it’s not complicated but your remark ‘their second preference’ leaves it open who you refer to, the candidate’s preference or the voter’s preference. It is the voter’s preference as the candidate’s preferences have no legal standing accept being an advise to voters ....

I like the idea, however I've tried to avoid suggesting that Liberal and Labor are the same - hence the Shit and Shit-Lite names :P

Threat Vector

You've moved really far left, or at least now you're proudly advertising the fact. The worst thing you could do right now is to turn anyone off voting Labor as a Labor majority is the only chance we have of any type of stable government. We can all agree the LNP and other right wing parties need to be burned in a fire but on the other end of the spectrum the Greens are not balanced enough to be able to govern effectively. I agree with a lot of things you post about but any risk of turning voters from Labor to LNP is too much at this point.

Neville Fryar

That’s not what you said. However you now seem to understand.

thejuicemedia

I don't follow, Alex - what part of wanting to have livable planet for our kids is "really far left"? I like a stable government, sure; but I prefer a stable habitat for humanity to live in. Did you know that if elected the ALP has pledged $1.5 billion to unlock the massive fracked gas reserves of the NT? A strong crossbench of independents would block that funding. Does that mean the Government is unstable when it comes to such decisions? Good. That's not "really far left" - in my book, that's stopping the political parties owned by big gas and coal from selling our kids future.

thejuicemedia

Also, this video will not cause an ALP voter to vote for the LNP. If anything it will cause an ALP voter to give their first preference to an independent or third-party. And if they don't win the majority in that seat, their vote will flow to the ALP anyway.

thejuicemedia

The panic you're experiencing is due to the ALP's fearmongering, coz they want progressive voters to be afraid of voting for anyone other than them. Which is exactly why I made this video.

thejuicemedia

Alex, I don't see anything funny about the stakes that we're facing in this election. You came here suggesting that I am being "really far left" and of doing "the worst thing" one could do. I showed you the courtesy of responding to that. If your only response is to start a new thread and accuse me of me being "defensive" I guess this conversation is over
