Dear Patrons, I want to send everyone a short message of support and solidarity as I know many of you will be feeling down after the results of the Australian election. I've been reaching out to friends to make sure they have someone to talk to, even if it's just to say "yeah, I know" or to share a facepalm emoji. There's a tendency for people to isolate themselves and feel miserable. So I really encourage everyone to reach out and support each other - especially if you know friends who were actively involved in the election. There's been a lot of analysis from the "experts" on why the election went the way it did, so I'm not going to weigh in on that. And I don't want to sugarcoat it. Today is definitely a day for full-contact facepalming. It's difficult to imagine how much more shit this  Government had to be to get the boot. But I also want to say how proud I am of our team and the work we did. And by team, I mean all of you too - because none of what we do would be possible without you.Think about this: there were massive forces at work to get this Government re-elected, particularly media forces which played a huge role in shaping peoples' (mis)understanding of the key issues - often by blatant lying and misinformation. Mining billionaire Clive Palmer spent $60 million (MILLION) on ads which funneled supposed "protest" votes against the Coalition straight back to the Coalition (the LNP won many key seats on preferences from Palmer and One Nation). The Government itself spent $200 million on political (tax-payer funded) ads just in the past year; not to mention the whole Murdoch media machine which went into overdrive in Queensland. And then of course, the most crucial thing, Labor's self-admitted failure to campaign effectively in many electorates. In the middle of all that, WE come along: just four little people, with an old camera and a few costumes in a living room of a rental property, and we smashed through so much of the million-dollar bullshit ads, reaching millions of people - on a crowdfunded budget! It's actually amazing what we achieved with so little. So, honestly, far from feeling disappointed with our role, I feel we punched WAY ABOVE our weight in this election. And we (again, that includes you!) should feel pretty proud. I am certainly proud of our team - Lucy, Ellen and Zoe - and of all of you for making it possible to do what we did. Also, the Juice Media is now in a much stronger position than it was even just 5 months ago. During our election coverage we almost doubled the number of Patrons since December 2018 (welcome to all our new Patrons here!). And a couple of weeks ago we blitzed our next funding goal, which means that the next big step will be to launch the Juice Media Podcast! (It will take some time to set this up, but I've already started making plans - so I look forward to sharing more news with you soon). At this rate, Juice Media will play an increasingly important role in shaping political discourse over the next three years. And I wonder - if we could achieve so much, with so little, imagine what we'll be able to do in one year from now; and by the time of the next election, if we can continue to grow like this? Sure, the election result is not what we wanted. But I am very much keeping the long-term in mind here. Many of these struggles are generational ones anyway, and we have to ride both the ups and the downs along the way - together. Which is why I want to leave you all with a message of encouragement and positivity for what we can achieve with this amazing, independent, crowdfunded project - powered by you. There's too much at stake to give up or feel powerless. It's not even a choice. Future and current generations  are counting on and still believe in us. Which is why tomorrow, we  renew this fight with even greater urgency. Partly for them. And "partly  for our own sake", as Wendell Berry wrote, "to keep ourselves whole as  human beings". And so, for what it's worth, know that you will be able to count on us to bring you sanity, love and laughter over the next three years of shitfuckery.Take care of yourselves and your friends. Until soon, your matesGiordano, Lucy, Ellen and Zoe (and Luca!)

I am already planning my next campaign!

Walid Karroum

I knew the ALP couldn't do it with such a sloppy leader at the helm. All in the name of unity! Obviously people LOVE disunity so they should've just ousted him and given the leadership to Tanya, they all know that's what we were all wanting!

HipCat Printery

Not good. All I wanted was a Federal ICAC, and what I got was a mouth full of smug self entitled arseholery... I’m making plans too. A series of prints called “A History of the Australian Civil War”... Really bothers me that two people die installing roof insulation and they have a royal commission up there are estimates of up to 1300 deaths as a consequence of robodebt and we get fuck all said about it because the Libs are in power. Insane that Queensland dictates the nations Govt when they hate us and we want them to secede. Rant over... thanks for asking!

Mimi

I feel like moving to Sweden and Seeking asylum !!! But I shall get more politically involved instead to combat this fascist shitfest

Walid Karroum

The nerve if that psychopath Dutton to take a dig at one of the best politicians in Australian history and use PK's famous line of victory! What a smug scumbag! I swear he's a reptilian lol

Mimi

Thank you guys for doing such fantastic work and lifting our spirits !!!!

Rick Evans

Labor (I know... "Shit Lite") made no effort to counter the whispering campaign against Shorten - of course later it was a shouting campaign by Clive Palmer - but unanswered mud sticks eventually. I regret the need but they really need a head-kicker (s/he doesn't have to be the leader, just senior and personable.) Agree with Cassandra - it's time to really go for Newscorp, including on their form in the UK and US. For the rest - keep up those fantastic videos!

Nigel Bell

I have a hoodie, I'm not going anywhere.

Julie Roberts-Smith

Oh Walid. I'd sooo love to agree with you. But has it escaped your notice that Tanya is a WOMAN? Australia is about 500years from able to accept that. I'm taking deposits for my charter to Jacindaland and can promise you your very own tent space in Utopia. And don't say "too cold". LNP will help change this within the next 3 years-it'll be a veritable tropical paradise.

Walid Karroum

Hear, hear!! When are we leaving??!! Haha

John Schindler

Thank you for all your efforts to save Australia. Humans are just another lifeform and when we have damaged the environment enough we will become extinct just as has happened to many other lifeforms. It is a race to see if we can stop destroying the environment in time to avoid extinction.

Michele Bottroff

Looking forward to the insurrection. I don't want a bogan Pentecostal overlord who thinks the world is 6000 years old and dinosaurs missed the boat

Nick Dorogavtsev

Tony The Dumb Dumb is gone! A lot of independence are in... let's hope they don't get the majority.

Wayne Pihema

I live in NZ but love your stuff and have family in Melbourne, which made me interested initially. Keep the savage humour going - it will be needed for the next three years. NZ needs your genius here. Few question the current regime.

Hector Hill

Obviously I support your work. Unfortunately I think there is a strong possibility that Juice Media have been preaching to the choir. It is very likely that anyone/everyone who enjoys your work was already planning on casting their vote to vote the LNP out, and someone better in... whether it was for the greens, the ALP, or whoever, and surely most of us in the choir already knew how to use our preferences... but... in terms of a propaganda war... I think a different approach is warranted? The same talented people, but using an approach that appeals directly to those people who voted (as most of us feel) against their own broader best self-interests, against the needs of life on this planet, and maybe against hipster green leftards.... An approach that appeals to voters in Northern QLD, WA and the NT... resource and extractive industry heavy electorates, rural electorates etc., People who voted for UAP, or One Nation, or heaven forbid... the Nationals or the Libs... people who voted against the ALP's pensioner death tax (or whatever they thought it was going to be)... People who watch Skynews, read Andrew Bolt, and listen to Allen Joans, etc... An approach that takes the piss out of southern state urban hipster leftard greenies... A more targeted approach with fine-crafted characters and presentations of the issues... An approach that takes this part of the population their concerns and interests seriously... and finds ways to get into their social media by bubbles ... meantime... as I said, great work, but may be time to review how you direct your talents and towards whom...

Fi Bottcher

Thanks guys, thanks so much. Your work it great, the system is fucked, but we do need to keep chipping away at it, in whatever way we can. We all need time to cry and scream - yes, as much as possible with others - and then to come together and support each other in whatever way we can. Personally, I've been inspired to find ways of working outside and around the system, there's got to be better ways and we have the next 3ish years to find them! Take care.

Greig Burges

Keep up the great work guys, I've been a fan since the Rap News days, and you are just going from strength to strength.

Sarah

Do you (or anyone) have suggestions on how we can keep up the fight? Maybe some charities we can donate or volunteer to? I donated to ASRC (Asylum Seeker Resource Centre) yesterday (and they have many volunteer options) - https://www.asrc.org.au/ Looking for others I can support

Elizabeth Butler

Thank you for the post... it really helps. Am so gutted and can feel myself disengaging so your post is a timely reminder not to despair. Pls keep up the great work

Griffo

Thanks for the post. I know I've been struggling to put into words the depth of my despair at the result. I struggle to comprehend how people traded off the planets future and forgave a bunch of corrupt people torturers in order to save themselves from a fanciful tax and non existent mining jobs. But we need to regroup, take a breath and continue the next battle to win the war.

Belle Deacon

Thank you so much for this post. It shows that you truly care about your patrons, who in turn care deeply for the work you do.

Belle Deacon

Unfortunately I think that I agree with Hector Hill in that your posts are incredibly gratifying for people who agree with you, and may polarise or not be the correct audience for people you are trying to reach. I am wondering if you have considered a business plan, or business strategy model to mould your intent? I have a bit of exposure to this area and could help.

Peter Todd

Thumbs up and my support always team, you've done a marvellous job! I though Bob Hawk's passing would have jolted a few into remembering how Labor could be a very progressive and effective government, sadly not the case. RIP Bob, one of our nations finest leaders in many ways. The good in all this? Well - you guys have another three years of absolute shit-fuckery to work with :) Labor has a prime opportunity to take stock, really question what they represent as a party and for God sake - find someone with a personality that can engage with everyone, to represent the party, the last three have been media groomed into near robotic state, argh!

Trish Lutruwita Tasmania

Thank you so much for all your efforts. I was shocked (and to be honest initially anxiety ridden) when the election started to take that unexpected turn. I still don't understand why the polls and the exit polls in particular were so wrong. If anyone can explain that to me, I would appreciate it. I feel like Labor is never going to address its neoliberal policies. They don't seem to learn from public criticism. Did you see what Tanya Plibersek retweeted about Julian Assange, which had been written by Neera Tanden? It was that Assange supporters are "cultists". That shows the level of understanding she has of the issue of press freedom So glad all is going so well with Juice media. I have a channel. I don't do patreon, or monetisation, but please feel free to check it out www.Youtube.com/VeganTrove <3

DAn

Big Love from DAn and ther Fam ..and a place to crash in sydney

Murray

I reckon it mostly depends on what cause moves you most. ASRC are good if you're into refugees. There are plenty of environmental groups you can work with. But well done for doing the bit that you can.

Leonnie Fay Blumson

Hi Sarah, that is the spirit we need. There are many women's groups that are working for a more just world - just are few are YWCA, Soroptimist, Zonta, BPW, NCW, and I am with WILPF. Good luck with your new life as a social activist :)

Leonnie Fay Blumson

Hi Trisha, apparently the polls don't get a good representative sample of voters these days because they only contact people with landline telephones (this is the clearest explanation I've heard, provided by Anthony Green)

Veronica Pauli

One of my very few friends has a theory that it's impossible to persuade someone. I think this is overboard, but watching the election results I really did despair not just for the continued degradation of our country but also for the fact that I simply do not know a method to convince a Liberals/Nationals/Conservative voter. I mean, clearly they aren't getting the same news as the rest of us, and they aren't going to come to our bubble. How do we pierce theirs? ... There's probably an answer that I'm too stupid to know or invent for myself but from my place of ignorance it just stings thinking that we'll never be able to have a proper conversation with the voters who are voting in these corrupt psychopaths

thejuicemedia

You're very welcome Elizabeth, and yes we absolutely will <3

dualpulse

Thanks. Needed that. <3 much love and support

Bob Kavanagh

Feeling absolutely gutted and confused - is my thinking and values so out of kilter with the rest of the world in general and Australian's in particular.? :-( Well not quite sure but looking on the bright side - at least you are going to have some amazing fertile ground for future material. Onwards & upwards.

thejuicemedia

It's a very good and worthy question Veronica. Certainly something we've been discussing over the latest conversations here. Whilst I don't think its impossible to persuade others, I do agree that we live in somewhat parallel realities - which makes it much harder to find common ground. I hear you about the sting you describe. Maybe the answer is that it needs to be one of "them" to talk to their communities, rather than someone "piercing" the bubble from outside. It's definitely something I'm going to be thinking about going forward, so thank you for this comment.

thejuicemedia

Not specific suggestions, Sarah, but I just want to say I love this fighting spirit too xo

thejuicemedia

Always lovely to know there are people from the old Rap News days here - makes me all melancholic!

Nigel Perera

From what I can gather, the swing against labour happened mainly in the over 65 age bracket, the liberals ran a scare campaign implying labour would be taxing pensioners through franking credits and negative gearing. Labour didn't do enough to dispell these lies. At least you'll have plenty of material for the next three years of honest government ads. Keep up the good work!

thejuicemedia

Hi Hector, thanks for this really thoughtful comment and suggestion. It's uncanny because just this afternoon we were talking about how we could bridge the gap between these two world/electorates - and discussed a few ideas. Yours is certainly a great one too, so we'll definitely look into it. I suppose the challenge is doing that without betraying the core principles and beliefs we hold just in order to appeal to another demographic. But there must be a good way to do it, and I like challenges!

thejuicemedia

One thing I wanted to add though: I think we've been preaching to the choir less than you might think. I mean, it's all relative isn't it, and impossible to quantify. But I do think that unlike mainstream media publications which tend to intentionally create a bubble, the nature of our videos makes it much easier for them to be shared across those demographics. I've received enough emails from people saying "your videos helped me get through to my traditionally-conservative relative/friend/colleague on X issue", to give me a sense that we're not only talking to a certain group. The range of topics we cover has also helped attract a relatively wide demographic - witness the range of comments we get, from vegans all the way to Anning supporters. Of course, it is still *mainly* a left-leaning demographic, but compared to mainstream satire and comedy I think we have a wider demographic than most. And you know, even if we did preach to the choir, I've come to believe that there is great benefit in that too. The choir also needs to be kept strong and in good humour and I like to think that we help to keep up morale :)

thejuicemedia

That being said, I still like your suggestion and think there's great merit in exploring paths to speaking to a wider audience. Thanks Hector

thejuicemedia

Thanks Wayne. I know it might seem nuts, but NZ seems like a paradise to us these days!

thejuicemedia

Increasingly unlikely, sadly, but I share your hope Nick!

Hector Hill

I had similar thoughts after making comment, about whether it was a correct analysis or not, (preaching to the choir), I started to think maybe my comment was not so correct. Certainly the appeal for me has been your continued 'call a spade a spade' approach on a range of topics, this clearly has broader appeal than just the choir. I'm glad to hear that you get such interesting feedback from a broad cross section of the political spectrum, particularly about how people are impacted by your messaging leading some to change their views. I think people enjoy having someone publicly call out the government on things that many of us see, but apparently too many people are either not even aware of, or perhaps too pummelled into conformity to speak up about... I think it helps a lot of people, when someone else presents a clear to the point analysis and confirms that 'yes, it really is what you think it is, but were too 'scared or intimidated to say'... Later, I was thinking about things like how metadata analysis is used to target specific groups in specific locations during election campaigning and imagine that in the absence of access to that kind of level of analysis to guide targeting of messaging, which presumably the Murdoch press have, amongst others, that tactics like identifying and appealing to common ground (which I think you have tended to do...) is one way to reach into these other demographics, without having to be an insider... Starting with, yes, we can all see this but for some reason... media concentration mostly, no-one is saying anything... or in fact, the shepherds are bleating some awful messaging to convince us that everything is fine.... Maybe some of these areas of common ground are things like, we all have children or grandchildren when talking about the planet and its future, calling out to older people to consider the briefness of the time they have left, and the need to leave a richly diverse biosphere for their children... Or we all have sisters, mothers, aunts daughters etc when messaging for gender equality or gender discrimination. Tricky to avoid being didactic, no-one likes being 'told' what to do, everyone likes to be treated as though they are intelligent and that their opinions and perceived needs are valid. I was also wondering about the lessons learned in Finland where the government is working to address the media literacy of the entire population, and how your work relates to that. Pointing out or calling out the some of the elephants in the room phenomena going on around us is something that appeals to a lot of people... Here's an issue, do the majority of people understand how resource extraction companies use debt loading by taking out loans from companies based in tax havens, to avoid ever paying for the sovereign resources they extract? Does anyone really understand why the Australian government has made such a bad deal with Chevron and others? Such that there is no almost income returned to the State? Who really understands how politicians and their backers benefit from these deals and why? I mean, directly or indirectly there must be something in it... other than their investment bank earnings... And what is this obsession with budget surplus... who understands that the real cost of a budget surplus is reduced services to citizens, and that the private sector has to be in deficit if the state is in surplus. Um... Indue... $10,000 per card... Larry Anthony and donations to the LNP. These are issues that appeal to me, and where those involved and profiting deserve to be called out... but, I wonder what issues are important for these 'wider demographics'... what issues would they like to see 'called out'.... Thanks for your thoughtful responses, very much appreciated... I'm sure you have enough on your plates just trying to keep up the creative output. I also agree that it is important to keep people's spirits up... I think this next 100 days is going to be demoralising... Abbott may be gone, but the spirit of the wrecking ball lives on...

Penny Hanson

Keep exposing the shitfuckery. Let the political sides fall where they may. All political parties do shitfuckery. Show it all and make us laugh at them and their tricks. Even murderers can't deal with a laughing audience for very long. Thanks and much success in your future.

Charles Bowman

It was a very sad time for me when, in 2004, GW Bush got re-elected via a re-stolen election. I feel your pain. Thank you for all you have done and will do to bring Australia into the 21st century and away from fossil fuels. Looking forward to your new creations...

Alpheus Williams

What can I say? I don't want to wander through a sea of porridge, disconnected thoughts, broken sentences and fragmented theories. I've read the pundits, the "experts", the sages on the editorial pages as the analyse, diagnose, prognosticate and advise and I think your note to us comes closer than any of those to pin point what went wrong and to diagnose the disease. Media. There's been a trend of late, perhaps inspired by Trump, to flood the public with so many lies, with so much bullshit that the truth, inundated and overwhelmed, drowns. There is no instrument in our system to balance the money and the lies. So for what it is worth I believe when we look at those area that reflect the most conservative, bigoted and Jurassic beliefs we see those are rural areas where Murdoch damned near monopolises the news. (Is it any wonder he presses his government lackeys to continue their war on the ABC which is the only balance to his influence?) I felt GetUp! dropped the ball by focusing on only few key areas, a strategy that may have achieved one positive result in assisting the defeat of Tony Abbott (Although, and this time I feel I'd like to see him in Government to undermine the Happy Clapper and throw them into chaos). I Bill Shorten did a few things that inspired me, he outlined policy and he took a firm stand against Murdoch. I believe that stand cost him...but Murdoch would have buried him anyway. As a small time Twitterer ... I found I received more likes and retweets from proposal to declare War on Murdoch. More than 2,700 likes...that's big time for me....but I think it reveals that there is a lot of support for that idea. If the targets of Murdoch vitriol and propaganda united and took him on I believe we could win...the ALP, Greens, GetUp!, Greenpeace, ACF, Sea Shepherd, et al the power is there. Anyway...ramble almost over. Before I go let me express my serious appreciation for your team, your work, your wit and brilliance and you kind letter of concern. We thank you.

Neil Bryant

Great words Giordano - call me an old hippy but I don’t feel despair is an option. I’ll continue to support the front line troops such as your brilliant crew, Getup et al as I feel non violent protest will win out - LNP will become more insufferably pompous making them even bigger targets for your fabulous ridicule

Loquacious B

Thanks Giordano, and thanks team! Those are some good words mate, I needed them. Keep up the great work!

Trish Lutruwita Tasmania

Thanks Leonnie. I just wonder what happened to the exit polls though? Why were they SOOO out. That's more my concern because exit polls usually reflect to some degree which direction it's all going.

Trish Lutruwita Tasmania

Thanks Juice Media I will check it out. As I said to Leonnie. It's the exit polls I am more concerned about. I thought they reflected the direction of the election to some degree. Anyway, I will check out that link. Thanks :)

Beatrice Pate

Thanks, Giordano, great words. Yes, we can feel very isolated, and find it distressing to consider three more years of destruction of our country. But as you say, we must not lose heart, and work together for a fairer better future. Thanks for all you do.

SexuaLobster

The election reminded me that a) Australia is a conservative country filled with people who will vote for what they perceive is best for them vs what is best for the community and b) the mainstream media is an antagonist parasite who serve the agenda of the stakeholders. I can't help but think that if Labor wants to win again they need to be conservative lite like in 2007 rather than seek a mandate for progressive policies. Hope I'm wrong!

thejuicemedia

Yes. I hope you're wrong but I'm afraid you might be right :-/ In which case there will be even more need for independents and minor parties who will have the courage to campaign on progressive policies

thejuicemedia

You're welcome Beatrice, thanks for the great comment x

thejuicemedia

Yup, I plan to make them regret winning this election ;)

thejuicemedia

Thanks for the solidarity Charles - you guys know all about this over there in the US!

thejuicemedia

Yeah, this feeling of living in two separate realities is obviously a clue as to what's going "wrong".

thejuicemedia

Great comments and food for thought here, thank you again Hector! G.

Ian Black

Thanks for asking, but aside from being gutted by the election result, I'm comforted by the knowledge that we'll be getting another 3 years of absolute shitfuckerry, and that means 3 more years of 'Honest government' adverts. That's almost worth the pain of that loss.

John Boyle

Just wondering folks.

John Boyle

WTF! How did that happen? Maybe your team needs to go after the real evil in your ads. The corporate suits, the corporate media, the tax havens, the military industrial complex, the CIA

John Boyle

Gonna throw this device out the window shortly. As I was saying the CIA, ASIO etc. How to reach the brainwashed? That's the 64 million dollar question?

Steven Pecl

It’s weird isn’t it!? Maybe there

Steven Pecl

....we’re a really large number of ‘fuck off Im not doing an exit poll’ people that skewed the result.

Steven Pecl

Honestly, if we had Electronic voting like in the US, I’d seriously paranoid right now!

Steven Pecl

Looking through a lot of comments from coalition voters on social media and YouTube the last few days, I’d have to say we have severely underestimated the effect of The Global culture wars and how they have exacerbated the inner city/country divide in Australia. If you haven’t already, I recommend checking out Angela Nagle’s book ‘Kill All Normies’ from Zero Books (available on kindle). It’s a very entertaining book and a great start at getting your head around our online culture wars have effected real life culture and voting habits

Veronica Pauli

It would certainly be good to understand on at least an intellectual level, even if I'll never understand on a personal one. I'll check it out, thank you :)

Daniel Warren

Its depressing, but then I believe the whole shit fucker is. It is not just an Australian issue, Politics across the board is owned by Capitalism. Personally I think we MUST scrap the complete system and rebuild from the ground up, and with the launching of G5 I think in all honesty , I doubt we will even think about such matters for much longer. I made a video about my thoughts, its a bit rough Lol first attempt at such matters. But I do think its a must watch . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pu-cqLsZcfE Keep up the good work team, our children really do need you. We need something to break the brain washing.

Laura May, PhD

I'm not sure if it's handy for you guys or not, but I'm doing my PhD research in political blame and how it produces emotions that riles people up, gets them to the polls, and polarises them against each other (and arguably against their own interests). I mainly deal with Trump and Brexit, but it's relevant in our shared Murdochracy...! As an outcome of my research I'm hoping to find a way to counter this extremist and often misleading discourse we keep hearing/reading etc that goes beyond "think better". Lmk if you ever need any info!

Uncle Bob

Yeh Ian. WE can take solace in the fact that the 'Juice' will be forthcoming with some juicy bits helping to educate those poor lost souls and their mindless voting habits. (like lambs to the slaughter :-/

Uncle Bob

Oh John. Don't do it. You poor thang. See what happens? So upset, that now you're beginning to lose your marbles. I REALLY do sympathise and share your grief ol' son.

Gadien

I'm sorry to say this, myself and a lot of my friends have given up on voting at all.

Gadien

So this means we would get fined, but it's never the outcome any of us wanted. If only there were more people casting a blank vote to throw out every politician in power today. But as I understand it that will never happen and we will get told which of the main 2 communist parties won anyway. 😟

Laura May, PhD

Then you're part of the problem in our current system.

thejuicemedia

Hi Laura, your phd sounds fascinating and very relevant to 2019 Australia. Thanks so much for the offer of helping out, am def keen to know more. Will flick you an email now. G

thejuicemedia

Hi Gadien, sorry you feel this way. But don't think your vote had no meaning! We elected a very balanced Senate and some excellent crossbench MPs. If you had not voted, that might not have happened!

Aleksa Sarai

One silver lining (as Friendlyjordies pointed out) is that the Liberal government intentionally booby-trapped the budget with a bunch of deals that were meant to eviscerate a Labor government. So at the very least, the debt will go back into the red (not that this means anything, but it is the yardstick they used themselves) under their rule.

John Boyle

Gave up marbles at least fifty years ago Bob.😖Two things we can all do immediately to help alleviate climate chaos. Go Vegan and slice up our passports.

John Boyle

Yeah. A budget booby trap and the world's biggest LANDMINE in Queensland. I hope Albo gives em hell.

Justin Gage

As a citizen of Jacindaland I think it's easy to romanticise our little corner of the world but unfortunately 9 years of rape and pillage national government have left Jacindaland a 3rd world country. It's going to take a lot more than an emotionally intelligent leader to win a proper living wage for kiwis and get their families out of cars in car parks and in to housing.

Walid Karroum

Yes, I did get a sense of this to be honest! Politicians all over, are evidently shrouded in systemic corruption that has pervaded Western society from the onset of the spread of empire across the globe post WWII. Most of them are skilled at the art of deception and portraying themselves as modern day Massiahs and saviours of the free world. Pfft please, they're all cut from the same blood soaked cloth!

Justin Gage

My electorate is full of these corrupt psychopaths and what I've discovered is that they are identity voters, they aren't interested in educting themselves on party policies, negative ad campaigns work really well on them because they aren't informed, they think they are informed because they saw an ad starring Scott Morrison, any perceived threat to their household economy is intolerable (no matter how misconstrued) They believe the government should be responsible for the climate change threat but they complain about not being given a free plastic bag. Any suggestion that they should change their actions or pay for the impact of their fossil fuel usage is sharply rejected and sends them spiralling in to climate change denial, they are racist and incredibly vitriolic when it comes to refugees and they believe the inhumane treatment of refugees is exactly what they deserve for having the audacity to attempt to breach our borders. They are xenophobic and paranoid about china and they blindly dismiss any information that contradicts their model of the world as greenie propaganda. You can show them written evidence to support an argument and they will become irritated and refuse to look at it. They will accuse you of yelling at them and actually believe it because any information that contradicts their paradigm is so confronting it feels like an offence. The only way they will be motivated to change their vote is when their personal pain exceeds their pain threshold. They represent the majority unfortunately and nothing but extreme pain will change their minds. Fortunately that seems to be on the cards for the next few years. Australia needs a new progressive party with credible canidates that focuses on economic stimulus and campaigns on the weaknesses of the sitting government. The way things are going green solutions in energy and agriculture will make clear economic sense within the next 3 years. I wonder if we'll be too far down the Orwellian tyranny to take advantage of the new economy by then. As I write this Anastacia Palace Chook is moving to rush through Adani approvals. We really need that 3rd Political Option.

Nigel Perera

And labour totally missed the point that the economy is not running well. Any economist will tell you that when the reserve bank wants to drop interest rates to an historical low, then the economy is struggling. Labour should have capitalised on this.

thejuicemedia

Yes! Also the fact that if the economy and housing market tanks, I guess it's best for it to happen under this Government than Labor so they can't pass the blame!

thejuicemedia

Obviously this doesn't apply to everyone but no doubt there is a demographic that behaves like this - we've all come across them in the comment section :-/

This is a classic problem where the media misleads people into thinking "the economy" (read: the stock market) is the same as the real economy (read: people working at jobs and spending their wages). Ordinary people are doing badly while the stock market is (for now) booming. Labor really needs to learn how to reject the framing of debates. This is a problem with progressive politicians globally, where simply accepting the framing of the debate means you've already lost the argument.

I'm fine, but I am not Australian. From watching prof. Mark Blyth's lectures on YouTube I am a bit frustrated because the issues we are facing is quite obvious but nobody address them. Everything is connected, and there is a graph, a Elephant in the room. I just wish Rap News would bring Mark Blyth on to explain this so people would not be so upset when the "Trumpets" of the world get elected into office. Until we understand why, we can't do anything about it.

Its just sunk in that the coal fondler in chief won the election due to the promise of 2 more coal mines in the Galilee plus a potential 1400 megawatt coal powered generator...............$60 million is potentially the best business decision Clive has ever made.

thejuicemedia

Yeah, Stephen. Clive will be expecting something in return... it's our job (and that of other good media) to keep alive the memory of that $60 million favour when those coal mines get their approvals.

thejuicemedia

Thanks for the video of Mark Blyth, been interesting hearing his take on things!

thejuicemedia

yes agreed, Aleksa - knowing how to frame the discussion is so crucial to messaging. As Tony said in his concession speech "When climate change is a moral issue, we Liberals do it tough. But when climate change is an economic issue, as tonight’s result showed, we do very, very well indeed"

Stefan "MaskinJunior" Ivarsson

In order to move forward we need to understand the other side. The Trump supporters are not evil people, they just see the world from their perspective. And from their point of view, lots of people willing to work harder for less is a scary prospective.

The Juice Media: ..."Not an electoral machine but an instrument for the empowerment of the working class and all the oppressed"... Mainstream political parties serve the interests of their corporate sponsors and private media monopoly moguls, aimed to confuse, mis-inform and sell agenda and policy, written by those same sponsors. It comes down to which mainstream party does the best sales job, whilst the public has just ill-serving multiple options to choose from. All Australian working people need to be truthfully informed through a democratic accountable media system and begin devising the agenda that serves them. Then elect those that can best deliver that agenda.

Aren't we suppose to be walking away from fossil fuels? Aren't we trying to build up Wind-, Tidal-, Hydro-energies. Or have I misunderstood it all?

Being good economic managers has actually been their greatest lie! For the past few YEARS, Aust economic growth has been weak and placed us in the bottom 20 of OECD countries, yet they managed to fool the Australian public . Now that the terrible economy has started to gain attention -- they're blaming it on the plastic bag ban causing consumers to purchase less.. Too bad most Australians fall hook, line and sinker for simple slogans.
